Not a corgi, but the first dog that was really mine. After a year of watching her health suffer, we decided it was time to stop the pain. Mandy crossed the bridge today, and though it's terribly painful, I know that I did the right thing for her.
Mandy was a fun puppy. She love to play with our other 2 dogs and with us. Of course, since we had no kids, she got a lot of attention. She was instantly spoiled with new toys and a big bed for a little puppy. she always was very loving and wanted to be right with me, even if I was vacuuming. :CUTE:
One time she escaped the yard and was gone through the night. I looked for hours for her, and was beside myself the next morning as I went to work. My hubby took the afternoon off and searched for her, and found her later that afternoon laying in a field watching cars go by. She came home smelling like she'd rolled in something dead, but I was so glad to have her back.
Thanks to you all for giving me a place to share my Mandy. She was a good dog, though never very smart, but loyal and loving til the end. I know she has joined many of your precious pets across the bridge today and that she is running and romping with them now.

I know that Mandy is waiting for you at the bridge . . . watching the cars go by, and hopefully smelling sweet. +WUBCLUB+

Breezy:
First of all - my heartfelt condolences. Your love for Mandy is clear in your writing about her.
Secondly you made the right choice. Its one of the great things about being a dog. A dog doesn't have to suffer and lose his/her dignity as he/she come to the end of your time if he/she have a caring and thoughtful person his/her life. For Mandy, there was you to ease her from this life into her next. You did right by your companion through to the end.
Next - that the decision you made was correct doesn't really lessen your pain and sorrow right now. That's what your friends (us) and your family are for. Hang on tight to them and us and talk of Mandy to them and us. I promise overtime, the pain you are feeling now will change to a joy that you and Mandy got to share this planet at the same time and place and you will be able to see the miracle in that.
Finally - you now are called to remember. I believe it was Mr. Spock who once said, "the dead will never be gone from us as long as we remember them," Remember Mandy and keep her alive in your heart.

thank you for your kind words and support. It's funny how we dog owners are. We know that this is the way of things and that after some time, the pain passes. But today . . . well, the pain is here.
I was so glad to be able to go through with it. She was miserable, and I know somewhere I'll feel like she loved me for it. I am still sort of sifting through the guilt this moment, but having done this 3 other times, I know I'll find peace soon.
Again, thanks so much for your support.

Tears
No matter how many times you might have gone through this, it doesn't help with the pain of missing that loved pet. You gave her a great gift of escaping pain and she was in too much pain to be able to smile and thank you. When quality of life is gone, you gave dignity in death, and you were brave enough to give that gift of death.

My heart goes out to you. I have been there and had to make that decision many times! Both for my dogs and for my parents dogs. The only consolation I can offer you is that 'this too shall pass'. I posted this in another thread, but it is soooo appropriate for here, since I know you are waiting for Sassy to enter your home.
"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my
heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with
a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my
heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they
are."

It is so true. I feel everytime like I just don't know if I can love another dog. And look at me now, I have 3 dogs!

I just saw this today, Breezy and sorry I'm late. I can tell you that most everyone here who has lost a loved one knows your pain in the loss of Mandy. I find it ever so odd when I see things like this how it touches my heart and not even knowing her in any way, I began to have tears in my eyes.
The Bridge is a wonderful place for or Beloved friends and rest assured she is in great company. There are many with her today romping and playing and none have grey muzzles but are happy and healthy once again. This is my belief and my heart so goes out to you in this time of sorrow. May the peace that only God can send shroud you with joy today, not in your sorrow, but in knowing there is no more pain or sickness for her and others like Deb's Riley, Bonnie's Digger, Kalli, Pat's Jesmine, Leisl, Emilie's Clinton, my Katie and so many others, are playing with Mandy even today. So, be of good cheer despite the agony and turmoil within your heart that those who believe we will see our loved ones again is just a matter of time.
