More playtime with the other puppies was much enjoyed by Danny, in fact when we arrived ( and I got him to relieve ALL of himself), he couldn't wait to get inside. Quite the social butterfly my boy.

At one point when the Burmie, who I found out was more than a month older than Danny was getting a bit to 'heavy' for Danny I just scooped Danny up and moved him away from the very large puppy. He teacher looked very surprised, so I just said, "Just too much of a weight difference I think"....... I have no problem in doing anything that I think needs to be done to protect my dogs.

The Burmie's owner ( & the teacher) then steered her girl towards playing with the bigger pups. Two more pups were added to the class, one being another Burmese Mnt. dog.

We practiced the sits, downs and stands, he is very good at those, we do a lot of them at home.

His recall was fantastic! It was the farthest he has ever been called, and he came in a direct line to me from across the room, and didn't stop to say hello or inspect any of the treats that people had left on the floor, Danny arrived close in, with a straight sit without having to being told!+CLAPPING+ I was so proud of him!

Our newest lesson was to teach the dogs to do the 'finish'. Which surprised me as I had only associated it with the Ob ring, not puppy k.

We didn't do the heeling until the end of the class, and he was pooped by then, but that's ok, I know that he can do it, most of the time.

When he pulls on the leash, and stops, he gets a treat, and if he looks at me, he get his treat, the "yes" and lots of praise. With so many friends to play with it's hard being the most interesting thing in the world to your puppy. I had brought poached chicken breast pieces to help with my attraction.

After the class ended the teacher took one of her dogs, a Pomeranian out of his kennel and showed us some of his tricks. He bows when she tells him to take one, sneezes on command, and this trick was sooo cute!

The Pom stands, and when she says in a hushed voice, you are a "Super Star".....the dog stretches out while standing and lift his one back leg. Hope I am describing it correctly, it was very sweet.

Oh, and as we were putting on our coats to leave, 3 pups peed on the floor, Wee D being one of them. But after all, class ended at 9pm, and it was now 9:20!

Sounds like a great time! Love your descriptive stories!

What is the "finish" command? I've never heard of that.

I knew that they were really pushing kids in pre-school these days, but had no idea that the same principles were also being applied to dogs now, lol. He does seem to be extremely smart, and I would have moved him away from the larger dog also. They depend on us to make those decisions, and he was probably grateful. (And you probably kept him from pooping in front of the class again.) Great descriptions Barbara, and I can now see why the trainer that we hired could not do anything with Mojo!

What is the "finish" command? I've never heard of that.

Here you go, the "Finish" is discussed here under "Recall" (come)

http://dogsobediencetraining.com/learn/competitive_dog_training_wiki.htm

To finish we are doing what some call the "Swing" I taught that one to Dylan, but with Montrose I taught the 'Circle". The teacher said that Danny will need to learn both.

Our "Finish" lesson: Dog is recalled, sitting straight in front of the handler, the verbal or hand command is given to finish. We are teaching that by moving the left hand from the wait to behind us, palm facing the dog. The dog then moved forward beside the handler's left leg, and 'targets', that is touch the palm of the hand. The dog then turns to face forward with the handler, sitting. Then he gets the bridge word & the treat. So, lead in the handler's right hand, treat in the right hand, and the target hand is the left.

Danny being the short stuff that he is, kept getting the lead wound around his face. We'll get it.:TWITCHY:

I know what you mean about short stuff, we are always getting Mojo tangled. We recently bought her this harness vest, looks like a protective jacket, but completely covers her chest. Her regular harness put it's pressure right on that big protruding bone that Dachshunds have, and that really conerned me, especially at times when she would tug. Now it looks like she is wearing my husband's bulletproof vest. Hubby says that all she needs to fully protect her now is a helmet. (He thinks that people are laughing at her.) I have always called Mojo our "special needs" child. I really ticked off hubby when I went back and bought the same vest for Miss Gambler, she has that Corgi chest that needs protecting. Have I mentioned before that I am totally paranoid where my two are concerned???!!!???

No, this time I was vey sure that he was empty!:TWITCHY:

Why is that Delta?

#1) If he expected all that from Mojo(and I suspect that he was a drill SGT. to her, then it's VERY easy to understand why he "couldn't even get her attention", and those were his very words, exactly. He did say that he wanted to try again after she was spayed.

#2) This is probably the most important factor. Mojo is spoiled rotten, and can do no wrong in hubby's eyes.

Ya'll are moving fast, Barbara! We just learned both finishes last night (5th class). Zia absolutely, positively hates "down." She throws a corgi-fit when we do that. She also hates "wait." I think she's afraid that I'm going to leave her.

These two are too hard ones aren't they? I've been doing down with Danny for a few weeks now. Because he eats a meal at noon and the other two don't I sometimes sit out on the veranda with him and to his downs etc with a good portion of his meal. And I've started making him sit and wait for me to go through the doorways first, but I have to be fast! He wait is not very long.

How are you all doing with the recalls and heeling?

:LAUGH:Love it! Emission control! Emission control is a central focus of our lives these days!

Danny is a pup prodigy for sure, and that is quite a fast moving class!

I personally think they don't like down beacaue they don't see the point...they are so close already!

Another breakthrough tonight. Dylan & Danny were playing and Danny again tried to take charge by jumping on his big brothers back. I told Dylan to 'get him' and he showed him (not too roughly) who is who!

Danny is tucked in for the night now and Dyl Bob is swaggering around the house.+TUP+

So far no puppy emissions on the dining carpet.

The recall is great! Zia was great at that even before we started the class. The heeling is coming along pretty good. She loves the A-frame and the tunnel. The first time she did both, she wasn't going to have any part of them and then she saw the treats! A lady with a corgi laughed at Zia last night. She said, "Just like a corgi, I'll do anything for treats." They ran out of treats and Zia kept looking for them. She's no dummy! Glad to hear that Danny is doing so well. I've still got a lot of work ahead of me with Zia, and especially Zeke.:ARG:
