Anyone know how to help a dog with rhinitis?
Barn2's been diagnosed with that and given CLARINASE
While he doesnt snort anymore . He sneezes occasionally but not very often.
He eats well. He is active.
BUT
he goes around dripping either saliva (drool) or nasal liquids. The underside of his snout near his throat is wet.
He licks his mouth more often than is necessary.
Am concerned.
Any advice?

He's probably licking around his mouth more because it's very dry, his lips and his mouth, no different than when you or I take cold medicine, and I HATE that feeling. Make sure that he's staying hydrated, and contact your doctor, he may be getting too strong of a strength if he's that dry, less of a dose may ease him up some, but ask your doctor. I would also keep the temp as stable as you can(and I know that's hard when using air), and ask your doctor about using a humidifier. I've had awful colds in the past, really bad sunus problems, and have had three surgeries to help correct it, so I know a little about a human living with these problems.

I guess it depends on what type of rhinitis is is Artos. Here's a great link to the Merck Vet manual for you:

I agree with Delta about the humidity issue - especially as I'm sure you must live in an airconditioned environment all the time - that won't help poor Barn either.

Thanks. I am wondering what caused the rhinitis in him....
Could it be:
SWIMMING
Barn2 spent one whole hour swimming in the open air pool with his trainer about five days before he started this snorting, sneezing episode. Wonder if that had anything to do with his nose condition....?
SPRAY IN THE ROOM
I sprayed Dettol disinfectant liquid and Lysol anti bacterial liquid in the house that week
TICK SPRAY
Sprayed this on the bed and on parts of the house.
Singapore is on the equator so the weather is usually the same all year around. Sunny with rain or sunny without rain. Its always hot and humid. Airconditioning does affect the humidity....and because Barn2 sleeps in my airconditioned room at night (and is around its vicinity when I work during parts of the day), it could have compounded the problem.

Two things, find out what kind of chemicals are in the pool. Chlorine could really irritate him. (Are his eyes red and constantly dripping?) Second, make sure that the vet has checked his ears, since this happened after spending a lot of time in the water, you want to make sure that he doesn't have any fluid build-up in there.

The corner of his eyes are a bit reddish...He didnt shake his head to get the water out of his ears....but point taken re the pool water.
I will see the vet on Wed afternoon and will mention to him about the swimming pool. I had forgotton to tell him about it.
Thanks.

Can dogs wear goggles in the pool? Or ear plugs? Just a thought.

I suppose they could wear goggles - but would they! I doubt ear plugs would work. The advantage is that Corgis have prick ears which allow the air in to dry out the water. Unlike Labs. spaniels, etc. who have fold down ears and are prone to ear infections. My dogs swim a lot - lake, creek, river, pool and none of them in 7 years ever had an ear infection.

I didn't realize that Deb, that's good to know, and I guess that even helps them at bath time. I was just thinking that some pool water could be irritating the sinuses, sort of like our swimmer's ear.
