View Full Version : Some good news I've been dying to talk about..!

It's been about two weeks since I updated with any news on our Corgi search out here near Philly. (I say this, of course, as if you've all been waiting for updates with baited breath :p ). Of course, plenty has happened in the past two weeks, but I was a little nervous to say much of anything since 1) it seemed too good to be true(!!), and 2) it involved one of our very own forum members. Since that time, I've gotten explicit permission to talk all about our future puppy and, since he or she is DEFINITELY born as of yesterday, I think it's appropriate to finally update all of you and spill the beans. So here goes...
The day that we realized we probably wouldn't be able to get our future family member from Ohio, we were a bit sad and confused. Where to go from here? Do we contact other breeders? Do we fall back on the "backup" Pembroke breeder we've heard good things about but feel just "so-so" about? Do we stop being superficial and get a merle anyway? Well, in swooped Debbie (glencorgi), who felt our pain down in North Carolina. Her sister, Robin, breeds Cardigans, and Debbie has been caring for two litters of her puppies for the past few weeks; another litter was slated to be born this weekend (and arrived on Sunday!). Knowing that puppies were available from her and seeing that we would be good owners (well, I hope we're good owners), she contacted us about a little boy Cardi sitting in her dining room who would be available to us...if he didn't pan out, we would be able to have a pup from the just-born litter. Distance would really be the only issue...but when we thought about it, North Carolina isn't that much farther away from us than Ohio!
Needless to say, we are BEYOND GRATEFUL and absolutely thrilled that Debbie and Robin will be entrusting us with one of their puppies. Of course, it's not just a matter of time before we can all meet up and see who will be the best fit for us personality-wise! My hope is that we can start figuring things out soon :)
In the meantime, we're of course falling head over heels for the little guy Debbie first posted pictures of a week or so ago and hope he's a good match...if Debbie doesn't mind, some recent shots she sent over this weekend are below (let me know if you want these removed, please!). Does he look like a "Mac" to you? :D If not, I'm sure we'll be seeing pictures of the five little girls born this weekend...one of them has to look like an "Apple."
We feel SO LUCKY to have found these forums and all the wonderful people in them. We'll keep you posted!

Congratulation to Heather and Colin!!!
I'm so happy things have worked out - what a great thing to have happened because of the internet and forums!!!
Now, I'm a PC gal, so I don't know if he looks like a Mac to me - I thought he looks like a T-Rex with that big head and tiny little legs!! :p
BTY everyone - Colin was very helpful in sorting out an issue with our banner and for helping it look as good as it does now - so he is a part of our forum as well!
I love what Susan said "Mac Attack!!!"

Way to go Colin! Great Banner :D
Engineers are so useful :p
Fittingly, the banner was made on a Mac! :D
ohmigosh, no wonder this site is so much better - it's a MAC site! Which makes that adorable precious baby even more suited to the name Mac! I did like that suggestion of MacTavish or how about MacPanda - oh it's getting late, I think my brain's nodding off - - -

:D Was out this afternoon seeing the new little "Apples" ;). Five little black and white girls arrived allllllll day into the late hours of yesterday evening. Once mom is rested up some, I'll get pictures of them.
I can't believe Heather held out as long as she did. <LOL> "Mac" will be four weeks old on Friday and weighed in at a hefty 3 1/2 pounds today. He is a little doll. He's somewhat adventurous, gives kisses on the nose, is enjoying his solid food (baby cereal mixed with goats milk and yogurt), is active and playing with toys and the other puppies. Tonight he was sleeping on his back - just snoozing away when one of the other puppies tried to wake him up to play. He just kept snoozing, but of course as soon as I turned on the camera he finally woke up.
Not showing up in his pictures yet is a black mark - now if it turns out to be an *i* I guess we'll know it was definitely destiny. :)
Debbie
PS: My plans are to bring Berry with me to the TN picnic and there is usually a fair amount of Cardigans attending. I pretty sure this year Cardi numbers will be increased.

Debbie, I'm ignorant on the black mark? Where? What is an "i"?
Heather, the boy is SO adorable and reminds me of two in "my" litter only instead of a complete white ear, it is black with a white edge. The difference between 2 weeks and 4 weeks old, oh my he is so cute. I'm so happy for you.
Ideally, the drive to NC will be good weather which makes the time driving go quicker.

Debbie, I'm ignorant on the black mark? Where? What is an "i"?
Mac's ear started out as being solid white. Showing up now is some black coming in, in some sort of pattern. So it was something of a joke, that if perhaps the black forms an *i* shape (iMac) then there'd be no doubt this was definitely meant to be.

Another question. I remember someone said the center white on the face can narrow as they age? Am I remembering correctly? I know Pepper had a white spot on her forehead that disappeared by 6 months.

The mental image I'm seeing is just TOO silly. Colin will be glad to hear about the snoozing..."Mac" sounds like a man after his own heart ;)

Great to hear Berrie is coming to the picnic! cant wait to meet her :)
I believe I am bringing Chloe... Em loves to travel (cant run to the store without her) but last couple of social meeting she has been a little grumpy. She even did her Elvis impersonation at Christmas when Son's doberman must have been in her personal space... one side of her lip curled up
Sooo Grumpy is staying home and Goofy is going to the picnic
Looked at Little Mac again this morning - he gets more handsome each time!

You are correct. The white "stripe" between the eyes (called a blaze) will narrow as they age and grow. Whether it fully closes in depends upon how wide it is. Mac's sister with the full white collar had the blaze with a black spot in the middle (fairy kiss) on top of her head. It has already closed in. Sometimes white will remain surrounding it and they'll have a spot in the middle of their head.

It is interesting to see how much the colour can change on their faces as they grow - here is a progression of Rupert from about 5 weeks to now.

OOOOHHHHHH!!!!!! AWWWHHHH! Didn't the wise old one tell you the "right thing would happen". I love to say I told you so. I kept the secret too. Hugs and best wishes. I know this has to be the longest month coming up waiting for him to really arrive in person. I remember when they shipped my little man from Chicago to LAX. I saw his little face in the crate and it was love at first sight.

Debbie I love it, Pepper had a white fairy kiss that disappeared as she was older and more confident to fend off her siblings! Why I can't remember the term blaze is beyond me. I'll have to tell my son and he will remember.
Will a white edged ear (one two of the puppies in "my" litter) possibly disappear? So hard to let these endearments disappear!
Another question....when does the brindle show up if a puppy will be a brindle as the mom in my litter is a very dark brindle?
Thanks!

No, the white on the ear will stay. It might get blended in some, but it will stay.
Another question....when does the brindle show up if a puppy will be a brindle as the mom in my litter is a very dark brindle?
Good question and one being bantered around a bit on some of the Cardi show lists. I don't have as much background and experience with watching brindles come on as I do blues and the black & whites (w/either color of points). There are no bi-blacks in Cardigans, every black and white you see is really a tri with either tan or brindle points. Tan points seem to show up a little earlier than brindle points do. At the age of the older puppies here, Berry was showing signs of tan. BJ the older blue boy puppy has tan points showing now. His brother Bruin, a black white isn't showing any signs of points yet, so I suspect he will have brindle points. Mac and his sisters aren't showing signs of points yet either, so my guess on them is they will be brindle pointed too. IF by a certain age the "black & white" puppy is still not showing signs of points, then you know you either have a black brindle or a very dark brown brindle. My sister has a dark brindle girl Gracie Lou, that I mistook for one of her black and white girls. Gracie had blown her coat and appeared "black & white" at a glance, although looking looking more closely at her in the sunlight, the brindling could be seen.
