View Full Version : Slow Loading Time

I guess I'll be the first one to break the ice on the technical end here. Whenever I type a response within a certain thread or click "Submit New Thread" if I'm doing one myself, I'll type the message, hit submit, and the little wheel at the top right of my browser (Firefox) keeps going around and around(trying to load) and after about thirty seconds, I just hit stop and then click back to the forum I was in and it takes my post.
When I've posted at work at times, I don't have that problem. I can only surmise it's either some tweak within Firefox or something with my firewall (Zone Alarm Pro). I have noticed a computer forum I go to that has the same software as here, gives me the same problem. Therefore perhaps it's really my firewall or browser.
Any ideas or suggestions? If I didn't hit stop after waiting for the wheel to load, I may sit there several minutes waiting.

David - it does sound like it is your computer at home, perhaps your IP, or the Firefox. Is it slow when you post on other forums from your home computer?
The other issue is protection - have you been practicing safe internet usage and use a good up-to-date virus protection software. If your computer is sluggish overall - it could be a virus of some type.
I don't use a high speed connection from home and I find the posting and usage of the forum very quick from home.

Nope, it's not slow-just with forums that have the V-Bulletin software for some reason. That computer forum uses the same software and I never got it fixed there. At work or mu sisters computer-no problem. She uses Firefox just like me (had to download it for her) but, she doesn't have the same anti-virus and firewall I do. All updates are up to snuff with both of these. I may have too much protection. I have in addition to those two, several anti-spyware programs and I use a router. The cable incoming hooks into the router and then to the modem and finally, the computer.
I'm sure it's just some tweak but, I haven't figured out if it's firewall related or some add on I have for Firefox. Sometimes I have a problem posting pics from "My Pictures" folder and have to resort to using Internet Explorer instead of Firefox to upload.

For what it's worth, I had a HUGELY slow connection. And it turned out that my router was going bad. We got a new router and now it's super fast again!

Sorry, I couldn't have been of more help David - but it seems as if it is localized to your computer at home and I don't think we can do anything on our end to speed things up for you.

I'm pretty sure it's this end but, I thought I'd ask. Sometimes someone will have experienced the same thing you have and know what it was that corrected it. I'll have to try some tweaking to see if that will help.
I don't think it's the router, Cindy,as other websites and/or forums load up about as quick as you can click the mouse. Maybe it's a short circuit between the chair and the computer!!:D Thanks for the suggestions-I'll play with it some more tomorrow. Right now it's approaching my bedtime. I hate getting up at 4:30 in the mornings. When I retire, I'm gonna sleep till 9:00 every morning!:)

David I had one thread here that was slow, but I'm glad I was reminded to run the spyware scan. I was on ebay and usually get a ton. Bye, need to run the scan.

That will only be possible if the "corgi" that's living with you, will allow you to:D

Linda ~ You are right about whether or not the corgi will let you sleep in. I usually snooze my alarm a few times before I actually get up. Zia barks constantly after the alarm goes off. Zia also likes to wake me up early on weekends. Now, Zeke (and Zip), will sleep as long as someone's in bed!

Cody's not my problem ;it's my three cats -usually "before" the alarm goes off, they are walking on us, nibbling on us and trying everything they can to get us up to feed them. We had to resort to putting two in the basement to sleep at night - that way, we all get to sleep. I think that is funny that Zia barks after your alarm goes off - she obviously knows you should not stay in bed a minute longer.
I am giving David a hard time, because he may not be sleeping in until 9 a.m. - he may be doing "bladder duty" much earlier:D

I think I am lucky in that my cats have an auto feeder, so they never come to bug me about food.

Wish I could do that, but mine have to eat different foods; and I am feeding mostly canned now.

That's the reason I don't go there. I use to about four years ago, but before I got all those spyware programs, I got lots of spam and spyware installed from them.

I thought about that after I said it.:) It would be my luck to start getting licked in the face around 5:00am and I'd probably have a coronary.:D
I hope I can find one that's as comotose as me in the morning.

Don't worry David, they do adjust to schedules, Mine go out the last time of the night by 10pm and then i am up at 6am to let them out, but they would sleep longer if it werent for me getting them up. Also I have one who takes steriods and they really make him drink a lot more water, all that extra input means that come 6am he really is ready to get out in the morning... I am just used to being up 6am no matter what becuase i had a diabetic kitty for 5 yrs and she had insulin shots 6am and 6pm every single day,so i had no sleep in days... now i could sleep in but my body wont let me :(

Don't worry David, I was just teasing you; Cody basically sleeps in until we get up - we are up early on weekdays, but he would be fine sleeping in later.
I am sure you will be able to sleep in later once retirement comes around:)

Oh, I don't have that problem at all, Emilie. If it wasn't for the alarm getting me up, I have no doubt I could sleep till 9:00 or so. I do that on the weekend or when I'm away. It's like my mind doesn't remember getting up at 4:30 am four days a week. Sometimes I've woke up at the foot of the bed, looked up and didn't recognize where I was!!;)

No doubt about it!! I do remember someone telling about their Corgi waking them up by turning her head side to side with her ears flapping to wake them up.:D That was hilarious. I'd love to have seen that.

My Corgi clock, Jemma, goes off at 5:00 AM 7 days a week. She stands on my chest and licks my face until I tell her to go back to sleep. She will stop licking, but keep standing there, staring at me,while I pretend to go back to sleep - then once she decides I'm not getting up yet, I get the deep sigh of suffering and she'll go lie down again. Rupert is quite happy to let me sleep until 7:00 on weekends!

David,
that is my Emma that flaps her ears in the morning. Her signal that it's time to clear out the sleep cobwebs and get going... she even has Chloe doing this sometimes.
But usually Chloe does her "aaaarooo" We are shooting for Hellooooo but not quite there yet :p

That Emma has the softest brown eyes, I just love them. I'll bet that is one more sight to see. Too bad you don't have a short video of that-I'd almost pay to see it.:) It would probably take ten Corgis doing that to wake me up...in unison even.:D
