Lulu has a doggie cold! Poor baby.

I woke up and thought... where are the dogs, no one has woken me up this morning (lulu typically is my 6 a.m. alarm).

I let her out of her crate and almost screamed. Her eyes were so swollen she looked like someone had beaten her up. Green goop on her face, she was a total mess.

I couldn't run fast enough to the phone to call the Vet.

Our Vet says she is seeing a lot of this and it is very contagious. Lulu's temp was fine, lungs sounded good, but swollen glands, stuffy nose, sore throat... and those swollen eyes.

So the Vet gave her a shot of the antibiotic and sent her home w/ decongestants, antibiotics, and eye drops. She checked Tucker over and decided to give him the decongestant.

So we all took a 2 hour nap this afternoon and Lulu looks much better already. But can't go to the sitter until next week.

We have withdrawn from the Agility trial rather than spread our cooties there.

So my poor little girl scared me to death this mornning. She acts totally fine (playing, barking, harassing Tucker) then she crashes.

Awe, poor Lulu!!!! I hope she's feeling better soon and that Tuck doesn't end up with the full blown version! That's too bad about the agility trial. Health is more important!

I am in Philly today looking for an apartment and have been worried all day.

I got the dogs up with me at 5 a.m. since I had a 7:10 flight to Philly. They got up, gobbled breakfast including their meds (I just dropped them in the kibble, my two never stop long enough to realize they are swollowing pills!). And they played a bit before crashing on my bed as I packed.

Lulu's eye is not nearly as swollen but she does seem stuffed up.

My puppy sitter stopped out around noon, played with them, gave them treats, then left them. She said they were playing and jumping around like they were fine. Tonight her sister and 7 year old neice are pulling overnight duty with my two staying at the house.

I am so fortnuate. I couldn't cancel this trip but just hated the thought of leaving Lulu. My puppy sitter to the rescue again.

She want to get them together with the other dogs but I would be very worried Lulu would pass it along. SO they are housebound until next week.

Apartment, oh my what an adjustment from your home. Best of luck hunting. It is one of the hated tasks for me. I hope home hunting has improved with the internet.

Susan, are you looking at an apartment for a short-term period, while you are looking for a house? How are housing costs in the Philly area? They are outrageous around here! You are lucky if you can buy a small condo for 300K.:SWOON:

Just feel lucky that you aren't looking on the West Coast Susan. One million only buys you a 50 year old fixer-upper, and no yard, they don't believe in yards on the West Coast, the land is too valuable.

I cancelled my appointments to see 2 apartments this morning since they were really too far north.

I had decided on one of the four I saw Thursday. It is a nice size, a bit more than I wanted to pay, but the property and the neighborhood should be good for the dogs.

The grounds back up to woods on 2 sides and a neighborhood on another. The neighborhood has streetlights and sidewalks! What a concept!

So I put a deposit down this morning, paid my one time $250 pet fee. The doggie rent is $50 per month. SO the dogs need to get over this virus and get out there and start looking for jobs!!!!!!

My sitter's sister left the dogs around 9 and my plane actually got in early (USAir early.... mark that on your calendar!). So they were happy to see me, Lulu insisted we play fetch, then Tucker gave me the cold shoulder. He's over it now.

Aparently last night he ran to the window every time a car went up the road. I think being there in the house without me being there must have been confusing. Lulu apparently is still sleeping a lot.

Here eyes are still runny but much, much better than Wednesday. Tuck seems a bit tired too.

So I will not be homeless when I start the new job. Sure hope my house sells fast because I am anxious to see what's out there!

So I put a deposit down this morning, paid my one time $250 pet fee. The doggie rent is $50 per month. SO the dogs need to get over this virus and get out there and start looking for jobs!!!!!!The location sounds wonderful. But as a landlord of renters with a dog I am confused. A pet fee????not an extra deposit? WHAT a rip! I charge an extra deposit that a renter gets back if they pay on time if their credit is questionable. Doggie rent? Well that means if a dog leaves or new one comes the rent has to be adjusted - no thanks, I like to write up leases. And my experience, a dog ruins a door and/or door frame. Kids can ruin the house!

That pet fee really has my dander up. In CA you can't charge an arbitrary fee. If I charge $50 for credit report, I give the tenants the report as I don't want it in my possession after reviewing it, yet many tenants say "you're the first to give me this". If you pay for something, you can request the original or copy. But so many people don't know their rights and they pay $100 for credit report and the management company only pays $25 for it - illegal.

But you are stuck paying because you want a nice rental. I hate ripoff management companies. Which is why my tenants love that I don't use one.

The apt. complex where my son lives has a pet deposit of $500 and then it's $30 extra on the rent per month. So it's not unusual.

What they found is most apts. won't allow pets at all. Not that it makes much difference as they really can't even afford the deposit right now.

I found apartment per month "pet rents" pretty much the norm up here on the East Coast. I didn't pay one in Houston (where pet rent is rare), even in a really nice apt complex.
It is a stupid cost, though. Shouldn't the deposit be enough? I mean, my current apartment complex does not do enough per month for my pets' convenience to justify such a cost. And as far as covering damage, why doesn't the pet deposit cover all that? The only thing I will have to pay for when I move out will probably be the carpet and apartment carpet is pretty cheap.

The Pet Fee is not a deposit. It is non refundable. It is to seriously clean and remove pet hair when you move out. All the places I considered had a similar pet fee. The Pet rent varied in amount but every place still had it.

When I travel with the dogs places like Marriott Residence Inn also charge a Pet Fee and it can be anywhere from $50 to $125. Whether you stay one night or 2 weeks it is the same fee.

So if I take them for a week, it's not a huge deal.

I have had times when my business travel fell on times my puppy sitter was on vacation so I took them and pais $100 for one night. Ughhhhh!

In my area, you are lucky to find a rental apartment that will even consider letting you have pets (ESPECIALLY dogs). By the time you find one who will allow them, you are almost willing to pay them whatever they want.

Susan - I hope the kids have continued to improve. Congratulations on finding a temporary home, and good luck selling your beautiful house and finding another (hopefully equally beautiful) new permanent home. +WUBCLUB+

Knowing what the pet fee is for means when you move in, the place better be absolutely spotless. And sounds like you don't have to do the heavy carpet cleaning because you paid for that up front. I do hope the lease spells out the fee is for that service so that they won't take more from the deposit to carpet clean. Note my lack of trust of greedy landlords?

Now if only a home you buy is that way!!! How many times have people and/or us been forced to okay a walk through because the escrow couldn't be delayed because the interest rate on the loan would go up. Some nice real estate agents pay for another cleaning when the sellers leave the place a mess, but I didn't have the time because we had to get out of our rental.

Back to the thread, I wish for you all great health and great weather for your move. Will you be using a moving company or packing and hauling it yourself? I hope you get settled and have a wee bit of time to rest and be ready for your new job.
