Noticed yesterday that Sooty was a bit bothered by something in the region of boy's parts. Today when I came in from work I saw there was blood where he had been lying. He kindly licked it up for me as if to save me cleaning it. Anyway so off to the vet we go.
And yes, the blood was coming from his penis which was very swollen. The vet asked if he had been in contact with any females in season. Not with me I said but he had just come out from the kennels. So he guesses there was such a female in the kennels next to Sooty and he got excited and damaged it when it was you know what.
Poor baby. Frustrated and injured!! Anyway now on antibiotics.

1) POOR SOOTY!!!! Poor guy, I bet that hurt... and was confusing....

2) And good for all of us on this list for taking the high road! I'm sure there were lots of cruel jokes we could have made!

Poor, poor baby!

********

I'll never forget Tucker's first encounter with a femail in heat. We were in Obedience Class and a woman brought her female German Sheard in heat to class. Whatever! And she didn't tell anyone until we started noticing the dogs were very distracted. The Newfies were really acting up.

The funny thing was 2 male Newfies and the Berner (the Berner is a perfect dog!) were being very unruly.... inbetween the big dogs squeezes little Tucker (I don't think he was a year old, he had been neutered though). And he sneaks up on Charm (the female shepard) and is giving her the big old sniff.

All I could think was Joey Tribiani from the TV show Friends and his "how YOU do'in"!

We may need a Smiley Signal for Jim, Mac Daddy, and our other male friends to back away B4 going into a thread!

maybe +POLICEMAN+ or +DEVIL+ or +CGIRL+ cowgirls only ...

Hope Sooty is on the mend

Thanks for all the good vibes- he is better today- no blood and he has not been bothered by it as he was yesterday. I just sent a text message to my corgi owning friend and she was calling me on the phone within 20 seconds!!

My ignorance is why I ask - this only happens to un-neutered males? As I make a note to mention to the dog boarder here that Chester isn't neutered yet.

Poor Sooty. Glad it was a small puddle of blood. Do a search on pookabeansjd post on her mastiff that made her home look like a crime scene.

Glad the medicine is fast acting and he is feeling better.

I'm cruel I'll tell hubby about it and watch him physically react. He hasn't come to grips with Chester's neutering.

When it happened to Marley it was most definately a crime scene (part of the territory and he was only 120lbs then--now 175). Our vet told us that it can happen to neutered or unneutered males, although neutering greatly reduces the probability of it happening.

I'm glad you caught it early, we didnt realize at first what it was, and he had to have surgery to keep it all in (and 6 weeks of 2x a week cathaterizing to keep it all open). (my now-fiance still cringes at the thought of what was done)

Poor Sooty!

forgot to add.... did the vet tell you to keep him calm for a few days?

At ten and a half Sooty does calm very well these days LOL Thanks for the advice- no blood since Tuesday and he hasn't even ''looked'' at it since then either.
