Debbie...is this what you're feeding? I cannot remember if you said you fed the dry Costco food or canned...I hope everyone out there is a-okay.

When is this going to END?! Frankly, I am very scared about what to feel our little guy when we bring him home. I'm frankly clueless about feeding fresh raw or cooked food...but what options are we going to have left soon?

Every time I read another dog food has been recalled, I race to Natures recipe's website. This is so scary. There is a few cats where I work that are sick and the vet's can't find out what is wrong with them and they aren't eating the food that has been recalled. Lady is doing fine and I am monitoring her because she would be more suseptible.

Here we go again, I have a few of these canned Dog foods in my cupboard - bought them a couple of months ago and did not use them yet.

Cindy, I bought the Felidae for 2 of my cats and my other cat with allergies eats California natural. I like California Natural but the canned food really has a strong smell and the Felidae is much more mild smelling) - Felidae seems very good and their website was very reassuring in regards to the recalls

Cody eats Fromms

I hope and pray that neither of these are re-called.

Everyone is fine here. I use the Costco dry.

Looks like I'm going to break down and start cooking for the dogs.

Here is the posting from their site. It sounds like the rice protein was added without their knowledge- that is quite scary! Their link tells also what is not in the recall

http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/

"Breaking Voluntary Recall News: Thursday, April 26th, 2007
Our canned food manufacturer, American Nutrition, from Ogden Utah, just informed us that they are recalling all canned products made in their plant that contain rice protein concentrate. American Nutrition continued by telling us that they added this ingredient to four of our canned products without our knowledge or consent. The four products involved are:

Chicken Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Lamb Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Beef Formula Canned Dog Food 13 oz
Ocean Fish Formula Canned Cat Food 3 oz & 6 oz

There have been no illnesses reported related to feeding these formulas, however, to comply with the American Nutrition recall of the four products, we are pulling all dates and batches of these four formulas. We also ask that our customers return unused product for a full credit to their store.

To make sure that this does not happen in the future, we are demanding from each of our co-manufacturers daily production record of all of our formulas before they are shipped to us and written certification of NO rice protein or any deviation of our formulas. We have reviewed all of our other products and determined that they are free of rice protein concentrate and that all of our other product labels are accurate".

Emilie is not going to be happy about this. So another company where Rice Protein was added without the companies knowledge. Keeping my fingers crossed that my two won't be making this announcement in the next couple of days.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So now it is all blue buffalo? crap and double crap, the boys have been eating about two cans a week of this stuff ( each) i am so upset... I have enough with poor Gus's condition - maybe that is why he is having such bad breakouts? could it be? remember without a strong immune system something another dog will be able to fight off , he might not be able to... He is on immunosuppressants to keep him from breaking out. What are others using for suppliments - ok, what food is left? Wellness lamb ok? i still have a few cans of that left, I could cry...

Emilie,

go back and look at this list

http://www.thepetfoodlist.com/

check what has not been recalled; they said the ones in red have been recalled - but they still say to check with the company

I know Canidae and Evangers have not been recalled.

I feed Nature's Variety Prairie Formula dry (Venison & Millet) . . . and that's still ok . . . so far. I check the website every day, with fingers crossed.

PS - if you go to the website (www.naturesvariety.com) and go to NEWS, you will see that the head of the company owns two Pems!

Emilie,

According to the press release, the newest recalls are precautionary - so far none of the latest products have tested positive. Hope it stays that way!

Linda,

From what I've read, Canidae/Felidae is made at Evangers. Evangers is the last bit of wet food I have on the shelves - I watch for that name every day!

I went to the store today to return the 7 new cans of blue buffalo i bought three days ago.. and they explained that it was a precautionary recall, which makes me feel a tiny bit better, (not really still feeling a bit upset). I have the wellness lamb and sweet potato left over from about 6 months ago when i got extra to bring to NC ( and we just emptied that house and put it on the market , so we got that food back here) . I have noticed canidae and evangers are not on the list... but i am still so upset about canned foods, that i got solid gold bone meal, welltabs by wellness ( suppliment vitamins and minerals) and then went to the store, got lamb shoulders, organic veggie baby foods ( green beans and sweet potato and peas) and some organic brown rice, and cooked when i got home, i added some ground flax seed (human kind, ) with added blueberries... and i mixed up this big batch of food, i am skipping canned food and using this instead, mixed with the dry kibble (timberwolf, still not on the recall list) to see how they do... pray with me that they dont get the runs, i gave them each about a tablespoon to see if they liked it and of course, they loved it. so that is what we are doing for now, i will separate it out into freezer bags later, but it wasnt so hard to cook but was quite expensive due to the fact i used organic baby food for the veggies... i can puree my own a lot cheaper, but for sake of just doing it this first time, i took the easy but expensive way out.

Em,

Have been thinking of homecooking as well. I too am using Timberwolf ( praying it stays clear of recalls ).

Good luck with the homecooked meal, heres to no messy butts...

I fed them my homecooked food just as a replacement for the canned food portion of their diet, and they enjoyed it and so far , i have had completely normal poops. They enjoyed some more in their breakfast this morning. The only thing is that I feel a bit lost as to if the same number of spoonfulls of canned = the same number of homecooked - but i will be watching the scale closely to see which way they are going, and adjust amounts accordingly.

I have a question about scales. How do you weigh your Corgis on a bathroom scale? Do you use one for the front two paws and another for the back two? (Just teasing). There must be some special kind of scale for doing this as I've never weighed a dog before and was wondering how it's done.

Dillydoodle

I get on my digital scale ( that weighs to the ounce) and then i get on holding the dog... then i do the math... my bathroom scale is quite accurate.

I run mine into the Vet's and pop them on their scales.

We love to visit our friends in the Vets office and on the way out, scarf a few of their treats! Tucker loves the Vet's treats!
