When should a puppy have her full coat? Aine apears to have a double coat about 6 inches wide along her spine and her sides are softer and not nearly as full as Maeves were when we got her at 7 or 8 months. Aine will be 7 months on the 21st. She has gotten a nive ruff and her pants are coming along, but I wondered about the rest. Maybe that's why she seems to get cold so much faster than Maeve (who could case less about cold.)

I can't answer the coat question, but I don't think it is the coat that allows her to be cold. Chester has a short coat except the center. His butt hairs are as soft as puppy and just starting to blow. But he never gets cold. He even had icicles on his belly after his bounding walk in the afternoon and not a shiver or indication of being cold. I made him go to the fireplace for a towel rub down when we got home. I wonder if dogs are like humans - the more muscle mass, the more energy produced or metabolism -thus warmer? Chester is a muscle boy right now.

Lulu's coat, I swear, is still puppy soft. She has long pants but her fur just isn't as coarse as Tucker's. She'll be 2 in May.
And just a note.... I swear since changing my two to grain free food, they shed a whole lot less!!!!! Very strange!

That strip down her back is her adult coat coming in. Well sort of, the real adult coat doesn't come in till after her first blow which should be at about a year old. Give or take a couple of months depending on her age this spring.
And no, that's not why she gets cold faster. She still has a double coat even as a puppy. It's just her and she might or might not out grow it.

awww dang now I'm sad Henry will lose his puppy coat soon, lol...he's still soooo soft. Hasn't had his first sheddingblowout yet (he's 8 months).
I think I shall go pet him now!
