View Full Version : Chloe's embarassment

We have laughted at Chloe for the last couple of weeks for chasing her nub - going round and round. She is always doing silly things and figured this was just another one.
Yesterday morning I noticed her rump fur was messed up and looked like a hot spot developing. Took her to the Vet - and yes it was. The Vet shaved the area and gave me GentaVed to stop the irritation.
While in the back getting shaved the Vet found her problem - full anal glands +EMBARRASED+ which she took care of...
How often does this happen and why? Emma has never had this problem.

Well, not every dog even ever needs to have their anal glands "dealt" with. Some dogs need it on a regular basis and others occassionally. I am quite glad that mine have never needed it! Usually if they are scooting or dragging their behinds - that can be an indication that it is required.

I've never seen Chloe scoot - just chase her tail. The Vet said it was just her "silly little corgi girl" (said and meant in the most sweet way) of letting me know she needed a little help :CUTE:
Chloe had a great time there - meeting a couple of other dogs but more important to her meeting their owners and the receptionist and vet techs. Up until "the surprise" by the Vet she had fun!

Poor Chloe, I've only seen a hot spot once, Dylan had one on his hip a few years ago.
My dogs thankfully have never had any problems with their anal glands.

I've read up on this in books in case there is ever any problem, but I know that if there IS ever a problem, I'll let the vet tend to it. Glad that Chloe is ok, she must be feeling better.

I am happy to assist in anything my dog needs, but anal glands are where I draw the line! Vet can take care of that!!!
And THANK YOU for posting about the "chasing the tail" thing. Colby just started doing that this week and I was going to ask if he was having phantom tail or if he was chasing it for a reason. I will call the vet and see if this is just him being silly or if it's a gland issue!
Glad Chloe is okay! Sending vibes for her hotspots to heal and her glands to remain expressed and empty!! +WUBCLUB+

Anal gland expression is NAS-TY! +SICK+
Luckily, I have never had a problem with any of our dogs in that sense. I wouldn't want to express them, either.
Feel better, Chloe!

sending Chloe some good vibes and hoping that hotspot cools down quick! never had to express anal glands on any of my dogs, however one of my cats did need it done once in her life... it was done by my vet and EWWWWWW... thank goodness she didnt ever need that done again.

I thought it was a dog thing, all these years, and with all my cats, and I never knew this, nor have had the problem with any of them(I am now knocking on wood!).

Poor Chloe! Zip has to have his glands expressed every so often and our vet does it. I'm like Anna...you have to draw the line somewhere!

Mac hasn't had this problem (yet), but my lab growing up needed it pretty frequently...every few months. As far as I knew, there wasn't anything we could do to really prevent it...just needed to take her to the vet to have it done, as we were NOT willing to do it at home - YUCK. Mitzie's telltale sign was butt scooching...

Yes, our male dog used to do the boot scooting boogie. And yes, cats too...I had a cat at the vet for this years ago and next thing you know the vet was reviving and treating ME on the floor!:SWOON:

my shepherd Kate had a ruptured anal gland when she was young. It wasn't very pleasant- poor girl! She has since never had any problems- and neither have any of the others!
