Henry has had diarrhea for the past few days, very green and foul smelling. He's on a raw diet and normally has very odorless, dry/firm poo. He has not had any recent strange foods, it started out of the blue (seemingly, I'm sure something caused it though, right?). We don't have a backyard so he hasn't eaten any plants. Is it possible his raw diet gave him some sort of bug? :(
No apparent fever or wierd behaviour...should I just keep him hydrated and hope for the best? How long do I wait before going to the vet?
Thanks gang!

I think I'd place a call to the vet (but I'm not that experienced with that...thank goodness!). I hope that Henry's troubles go away quickly!

If he's been eating raw food without problems I doubt that that will be the problem. However, anything is possible. It's possible to get a "bug" from dry kibble that's spoiled too.

The rule of thumb is 24 hours of vomiting or diarrhea and then you call the vet.
I think it's worth a visit. A few days can really run him down. Might be any of several things and a stool sample they can look at (check for parasites too) would be a good idea.

Thanks a bunch!!! I will call his vet first thing tomorrow morning and collect a sample (eww thats gonna be a very unpleasant triple-bagged ziplock of DOOM, right there) tonight. Hopefully he'll be better and I won't even hafta.

With diarrhea, my vet usually recommends a 24 hour water only fast. But definitely call your vet to see what his or her recommendations are. Good luck with that sample!

Let us know what the vet says!!! I would definitely take him in if this has been going on for more than a day.

Hooray!!! I took Henry out this morning with ziplock baggie in hand to gather his...erm...green output, but it was back to normal!! We took LaurieandBella's vet's advice and skipped his evening + morning meal and just gave him water and I guess that flushed the bug out of his system. His poo was firm and normal again...hooray!
thanks for the help everyone!

Green Poo.... where are you walking him these days?
Tucker and Lulu scarf up goose poo so fast I can't stop them. Our morning walks are in this field where the geese love to graze and I can't see what they are eating off the ground in the dark.
We have had quite a bit if green tinged poo going on. I found a nice park, fenced in on 3 sides, with a pond.... and loads of geese.
I can't resist letting Lulu (and Tuck) loose to chase away the geese. As soon as the geese scramble into the pond the dogs start looking for booty - the prized green goose poo. I hustle them off as fast as I can to part of the park where the geese don't go but too late.
Some runny poo but mostly firm poo w/ slight green tint.
Or maybe they are just celebrating St Pat's early!
