My head is going to explode:

I truly hate these greedy people May they rot in whatever H*** they fear the most.

Also worth reading: as in all catastrophes, just follow the money...

Outrageous.. I am with you - My head hurts trying to keep up with all this. I am using canidae and wellness and evangers right now ( mostly the first two) for canned, and timberwolf for dry - I am just praying right now these stay off that list. How do these CEO's at these pet food companies sleep at night? :REALLYMAD:

My canned dog food is now on the list because of potential cross contamination. I've been feeding it all through this mess thinking we were okay. After the horror of Riley getting sick with cancer and dying last summer - I can't even fathom anything happening to Rupert or Jemma.

It the people who are growing and supplying the crap who are to blame as well - they are the ones who "poisoned" the glutens.

Oh Deb, no!

Well, they say this latest round is mainly precautionary (yeah, right - why not just do things right the first time??? :REALLYMAD: )

Paws crossed everything is alright with the pup's food. Please keep us informed.

It's procautionary - but the wording for it indicates that some animal got sick, so that's why they have done it.

Thanks - I hope we are okay too!!!

An Itchmo.com forum member has created these pet food recall bumperstickers and is selling them on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330116048314

While I agree wholeheartedly with the message, the circle-slash-China may be viewed as a bit inflammatory (I've got Chinese people living in my neighborhood who have nothing to do with this fiasco.)

Got me to thinking, though; I understand one can buy the material to make bumperstickers and just run it through an inkjet printer. What would be an effective yet non-inflammatory message to get the point across? Hmmm...

Perhaps a positive rather than negative message is a good idea. Something to promote government regulations on the pet food industry would be a good idea.

Here this is pretty concise.

How many pets have to die? Government regulations on pet food now!

As much as I hate the whole recall business and the big companies, the cheating and greed behind it, I don't like that sticker either. Yes, something positive and proactive, not negative and reactive makes more sense. From any bit of distance it looks like a sticker against all of China, including the people. That's just not right. From what I hear, the Chinese citizens are victims of poor quality foods too. Also, there were people from Canada and the US at wrong here too.

I meant the anti-chinese sticker - not the one Jespah posted!

That's a good one Deb - I'd buy it!

This whole thing is just outrageous. Give Rupe & Jem a snuggle from Auntie Jess & Jackie tonight. We would hate to think of anything bad happening to them.

Thanks Jess - I'm pretty confident they are fine - they only get about 2 heaping tablespoons of the canned a day - but still, you can't help but worry.

Jemma had her check-up on Saturday and was pronounced in excellent condition - but without bloodwork, there is no telling if there is anything going on. I'm not seeing any symptoms from either of them so I am not going to go that route right now.

I'll be taking this stuff back tonight and finding a substitute.

Deb - I hope the kids are fine.

It seems like this dog food recall will never end! :ARG:

This is the sort of thing that happens when big business goes running amuck. It's all about money. I've heard that the government even pays the farmers to not grow corn and wheat! Figure that one out. I can only surmise in doing so, they can get it from China at a much cheaper price, not knowing how it was grown, what pesticides were used, or how the finished product actually gets into the food chain eventually.

I don't know why we're dealing with a known country that's hostile to us from the beginning. Now, you can't buy clothes, food or household items that doesn't bear their name (along with other countries). I'm all for import/export or I would never have know great camera like Nikon, Leica or the Pentax 6x7's I had but, not at the risk of harming anyone or their pets. We wouldn't have these computers either or most of the cars today as either the car, it's parts, or both are no longer made here. Face it, our industries are history and that's a sad day for America.

America can grow her own wheat, rice and corn-untainted by chemicals and poisons. However, that's not a lucrative business for company CEO's with dollars in their eyes and we as the consumers ultimately have paid and will pay the price.

They just finished doing a live blogging of an FDA press conference over at itchmo.com. Seems like most of the major news outlets in attendance were finally asking some of the right questions! Maybe they will wake up now and stop repeating that tired, old (and wrong) line of "only 17 confirmed pet deaths." :ARG:

Good bumpersticker, Deb. That's along the lines I was thinking, too. My entry would read something like this:

Pet Food Recall 2007
4,474 dead. Human food contaminated
Demand safe food now!

And:

Unrestricted "Free" Trade
+ Extreme Corporate Greed
= Lowest Common Denominator Toxic Waste.
Demand Safe Food Now!

Nicely said Colcolt and I like the last bumper sticker the best. Other then that, I will keep my comments about importing goods and exporting factories and jobs to myself. :REALLYMAD:

I wonder if people who keep ferrets even know to look for the recall notices. +SAD+

Didn't someone on Go Corgi have ferrets? Maybe someone that's still allowed over there can go & post this for them? +SAD+

There are government regulations. The problem is what's in the food at the source. And WHO the source is.

IMO, we need to be working with/buying from countires that have the same standards we do.

True, and they pay dairy farmers not to produce milk. It's DUMB, we have our own farmers growing crops and buying from them. Not importing foods we can produce here. IMO.

Also just saw this: a bag of Nutra Nuggets purchased from Costco has tested positive for melamine. This brand is NOT currently on any recall list:
