I just heard about this (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2008/04/pet_food_recalls93.html) in case anyone is feeding Nutro.

Thanks for posting that Deb - gees, these companies really annoy me. Instead of stepping up and saying we'll check it out, they keep saying they haven't heard anything.

This was posted on the other forums I visit, and someone pointed out a good part of this "story." You see, the site was made for complaints, and when you decide to make one it offers you to a lawyer and must check a box if you don't want to. So basically if you have ANY problems with something, you can make a complaint and they sue for you.

Grrrr.... Nutro again.

When we first got Trevor I started feeding him the Ultra Holistic, both wet and dry. He seemed to do well on it, but then the pet food scandal broke. To my horror, the Nutro Ultra wet was on the list. The date codes were before the "affected" range and blood work/urinalysis cleared him of any problems (he never had any symptoms) but what really ticked me off was through-out the whole thing, Nutro always maintained their "innocence" and that they were only participating "voluntarily" in the recall. Deny, deny deny!!

After researching the bejezzus out of it, I settled on Natura Pet (Innova, Cal. Natural, etc.) for all the pets, due to their commitment to testing, etc. and never looked back. I hope Nutro goes out of business for good after this.

I guess it hit home with me too as Millie was on Nutro for probably, um, 9 years? The whole time she threw up bile in the afternoon (not EVERY day, but probably half the days in a month). It wrecked her teeth - the acid, like a bulimic person. The vet told me some small dogs just do that and not to worry about it. About a month before the pet food problem last year I had the "silly" notion (according to the vet) to change her food to Canidae. No more throw up...ever (now we use either Canidae or Eagle Pack or sometimes Core). She immediately stopped. I felt like such a fool for all those years.

Disclaimer: I know plenty of people feed Nutro and their dogs are healthy and fine - that's great - Millie has some kind of sensitivity to it I guess. I'm not judging, just giving info.

Wow thats funny, cause several years ago my mother "surprise!" brought home free a bag of there sensitive stomach brand X(. No matter how few bits I'd give Jinjo, he'd throw it all up and them some! No, even as far as just the ingredients go I'd never feed one of there foods to my dogs ever!

Another thing we need to keep an eye on is checking the label of our dog's food. The companies can change the label and not tell anyone. Natural choice used to never have corn or oat or something like that. I remember during the tainted pet food that when I searched for something for Pepper, the labels had changed from when my brother used Nutro's food.
