My two hoodlums are in the dog house again!
They were out in the front yard this morning as I was having a bowl of cereal. I hear Lulu giving the "ppuupy" bark - a yippy, whiny bark. Usually this means Tucker has something she wants and he isn't giving it to her....
I open the front door to see closer what is up and the two are frantically digging up my Vinca and trying to tunnel under the front porch. Lulu's white face is covered in black dirt. Tucker immediately backs off as if to say "she did it". But to no avail, his white feet are black from the dirt too.....
All I can assume is that a chipmunk or something ran under the porch and they just had to get to it. I swear, I should have them work with an escavating company, they surely do a great job digging holes!

Hee, hee, the non-white paws are always a give away. Luckily vinca grows very well. In fact the CA native plant society has it on the invasive list!
Your dogs are so handy when you do need a hole dug right? I remember in hard pan soil area telling Pepper there was a gopher so she'd get the hole started for me. Is this like barking command, we might consider the dig command?
If only the varmints teasing your dogs would run where you need the soil cultivated!

Susan ~ I'm sorry for laughing! I can just imagine you walking out and finding them. Did you manage to get pictures?

Oh no! What a mess - naughty doggies! Although I'm sure in their minds they were just protecting you from that scary varmint! :CUTE:

I wonder if you can "give" them an area that is designated for digging? With sand or something and train them to it. I don't think you'll be able to stop them.
Riley was a digging maniac and I taught her the phrase "diggy-dig" and she would go crazy! I always make sure that when I rent cottages they have sand beaches for mine to dig their holes. I always spend the last day of my vacation filling them in so no one breaks their ankles! Rupe loves a good dig too - Jemma hasn't really gotten into it yet.

After scaring the wits off them when they got caught red handed (black footed?).... I had all I could do to keep them from jumping up on my clean pants (I was dressed and ready for work!). Not the least argument about going to their spot in the dining room!
Tucker was eager to show me he in no way, shape, or form, had participated in the debauchary. Like H- E - double hockey sticks!

Oh, if there is a next time, pictures please!
Neither Montrose or Dylan have ever been diggers. In fact, when I was reading up on breeds to pick one, all comments pointed to the fact that corgis are not usually diggers. I counted that as a plus.

Im sorry I could not help but giggle. Mine would have done the same thing! Fisher always acts like "he did it" to Boots! ;)

What a funny story, although I know you did not find it funny. Two corgis seem to stir up a lot of trouble. When I work in my yard, as I did today, Cody just lays in the grass and watches me. I am sure if he had a little friend, they would be up to something naughty also.
And I do wish you would have gotten a picture or Lulus face. I like Deb's idea, of their own little digging spot - maybe a Little Tykes sandbox is in order for your two - only thing is you may end up having stray cats use it as their litter box.

 That's what I thought until Mr. Linky came along. How such a tiny guy can dig like that is beyond me!

Susan, just the picture you painted of those two! I can see it now - funny! :BIGGRIN"
Rhys and Andy both like to dig. When we go to my mom's house, my mom gets "mad" (as mad as you can get at one of these two) when she catches them digging.

Zia digs, too. She is now teaching Zeke how to dig. Here is a picture of Zia right after she got caught digging a hole in the backyard.

Awww.... just look at that face. She's innocent mommy... honest, Zip framed her!!
As for the digging... now that my boys have a yard of their own I have found a couple of holes (none near fences yet, luckily). I haven't caught the culpret.. but I KNOW Checkers digs because he was helping me get the weeds out of the flower bed in front of the house just yesterday. He sure had a fun time helping me dig in the garden. I would pull up a clump of grass and he would grab it and just shake it like mad to get all the dirt off of it... then I could take it from him and put it in the weed pile. If I tried to throw a grass clump in the pile pre-shake he would give me a nasty look, go pluck it from the pile and shake it good... then put it back. Such a character!

oh my goodenss! I am sure you were less than thrilled, susan, especially when all dressed up and ready to go to work... how do you manage? see, i would have to change back into something grubby, then clean the dogs so they could come back in the house, then go change again and then go to work, I would most likely be late!!
Dillon got caught Digging once when he was about 5 months old , he didn't like the consequence... which was an immediate bath. Then the next time i caught him sniffing around his digging spot a few days later, i said NO really firmly and gave him the evil eye and he never tried it since. Gus doesn't dig either.

Zia doesn't look to happy that mommy caught her and stopped her from doing something fun - cute picture.

Now there's an idea.... throw them into a bath when they get caught red handed!!!! They both hate baths!
Lulu will eventually find something to entertain herself when I am doing yard work but Tucker is at my heels every second. If I am diggin a hole to plant a bulb, he is there pushing the dirt back in the hole before plant/bulb gets put in the hole.
When I cut the grass he falls in line behind the mower and follows me ever inch of the way. The sound clearly doesn't bother him.
What is most annoying is when I need to transport something in the wheel barrow. He barks and nips at the wheels.
Raking will wake the dead in my yard. Both Tucker and Lulu bark their heads off at the rake and lunge for it. I have to put them in the house to quiet them down. Tucker clearly thinks he is helping. Lulu just wants to make noise!

Poor Susan :TWITCHY: Sorry for the laughter but Lulu and Tuck are such a cute pair to hear about - but I do feel for you!
Chloe has made a few holes - I know it's her because Em never did b4 Chloe came... one time I had spent a good portion of the morning transplanting flowers to a new bed - little later Chloe had cleared the bad flowers from my new garden so we would have a nice bed of dirt again!
Emma does like to walk behind the mower to make sure we have done a good job - she even walks behind the riding mower if I'm using it... She will also help me a little in the flower bed.
