I was just running my hand down Rupert's right side and found a good sized lump over his ribs. It's sort of flat, it isn't hurting him but I am taking him to have it looked at tomorrow, right after work. It will be a week to the day that I took Sprint in, and it's the same vet. Needless to say, I am a little bit freaked out.

Riley, my first Corgi, when she was quite young up on her side, close enough to her spine that I elected to have it removed. My concern was that if it grew quickly, as they can, it would cause some kind of damage to her spinal column.

Rupe is 6 years old now, so not really that old, and I know it can be more common in older dogs.

Has anyone else had Corgis with fatty lumps?

Millie has one on her chest, right in the middle between her front legs. It's a fatty lump and hasn't changed at all since I noticed it (maybe 5 years ago?). The vet said it would be best to leave it unless it changes. It's really in a spot where it isn't causing any trouble at all. I check it probably once a month.

I know you're worried, but remember that the vast majority of lumps are just fatty tumors and they don't do a thing (other than make us worry to death and open our wallets).

+HUGGLES+ for you and Rupert and good vibes for tomorrow!

Yes, Dylan has a fatty lump on his side too. I felt it a couple of months ago and took him into the Vet, and was told that it was not uncommon in dogs at all. Especially as they age. Dylan is 10.

I freaked out too, and you told me that it was probably just that, a fatty lump. So vibes for you to be calm, and vibes for Mr Rupe De Dupe that it nothing important.

My Lab has numerous fatty lumps. She's gotten more as she's aged.

Good vibes for Rupe! :BIGGRIN"

Sadie's only two years old, so nothing like that has happened yet. But Maddy, my cocker spaniel had several fatty tumors in her last few years. We didn't remove any of them because her heart was so bad, but none of them caused any problems.

Good luck Rupe!!

Those fatty lumps can be really scary! BC (before corgis) my shepherds got them as they aged. My Elkhounds were really bad for them, too. We had no vet where we lived so I learned to remove them myself. They were always harmless.

Trevor is also only two, so no fatty lumps yet, but our old American Eskimo used to get them all the time. I can't recall how old he was when he got his first one, but it was probably around age 8 or so. The early ones the vet removed but as he aged we also elected to leave them be. They never caused him any problems (he lived until age 15.)

I know it is freaky to find anything like a lump on our corgis, but it probably is just a fatty tumor.

Here's lots of calming vibes coming your way until tomorrow!!

Fatty lump - Pepper had one that disappeared after 21 days on shark cartilage. For me I used a homeopathy remedy cal carb. If Chester ever gets one I'll research the homeopathy and give it a try.

My MIL retired nurse said lumps should move around and not be fixed to like a bone. If they don't move, it is more worry as it could be a growth off an organ or bone. Hope this helps not make the wait worse.

Thanks everyone - my brain thinks it's probably just a fatty lump, but after losing Sprint because of a lump last Thursday, and this is almost exactly 2 years to when I discovered Riley was ill and she passed away in that July, my emotions are messing with my brain!

Our Megan started having fatty lumps at 3 or 4. We had them aspirated from time to time to be sure, but they were never any problem.

Vibes from us here for you and Rupert from Joni and I and his kissin, cousins!

We're back from the vets. The vet said that it was possibly a fatty lump, but that it was a little harder and less "movable" than normal - although that may not mean anything. They aspirated the lump and we will have to wait 3 - 5 business days for the results. I have to keep an eye on it, in case it suddenly grows quickly.

We'll have to just keep good thoughts and hope for the best.

Thank you all for your kind support and calming vibes. I appreciate it.

Haven't posted in a while, but I saw this thread and just wanted to send my positive thoughts to you. On a happy note, Maya had a lump that sounds very similar to Rupert's (and she's only one year old) and it turned out to be nothing. Those fatty lumps sure do give you a scare though!

Best of luck!

All of your good thoughts, prayers and vibes paid off, we thank you kindly. +UROCK+

I just got off the phone with the vet - Rupe's results finally came back today.

It's not a true fatty lump, it has other kinds of cells, but they are benign - thank goodness! It may grow, and I should keep aware of it.

He doesn't feel that it's neccesary to remove it for the sake of it at this point, but if Rupe had to have his teeth cleaned or something that required anesthetic, it would be worth doing then and sending it for further testing. He doesn't feel it will suddenly become malignant. It's not far enough up his side to be a risk to his spine either, if it grows.

So, it was worth having it tested, as you never know - and I needed to know! +NERVES+

Just read this and glad it's not serious. I agree with waiting and taking it off if he's out for something else. That's usally what I do with fatty tumors.

There was a special high tea for dogs with or who have survived cancer today at the very chic King George Hotel, in downtown Toronto today. (It was a pre-event for next weekends Woofstock www.woofstock.ca)

The event was free - but they asked that you make a donation to the University of Guelph's Veterinary Schools new cancer centre they are building. One of their vet's was interviewed on the news and she said that 1 in 4 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer and that most of their prognosis' are not good. That's a pretty scary statistic.

The University is building an animal cancer institute - if our pets are being touched by cancer as much as humans, it's good to know that there is work being done to help stop it for them too.
