They have arrived!!! The latest litter here at Foggy Bottom arrived via c-section at about 2:30 Saturday morning. It was slightly planned but like Doc said, for daylight hours.
8 boys and 1 girl. Yes that's right, an almost all boy litter. UGH--but heck I won't complain as they are all healthy and mom is doing great.
Photos are up of day 1 on the webpage. Disregard the date, I was so lost this weekend with lack of sleep that I still am not sure what date it is. But fixing that right now.

WOW - NINE!!! I thought that Sadie had her paws full last year with a litter of six (5 girls and a boy). BTW...for those of us who are not really versed in breeding specifics, what is a mismark?
CONGRATULATIONS to one and all!

YAY for puppies!!! Marg looks exhausted but happy :)
And Leslie, I believe a mis-mark is a pattern of markings that goes against the breed standard, such as having white fur around the eyes, too much white in general, blue eyes on a dog that's not a blue merle, etc.

Correct, in this case, it's a mismark on the head. Though the standard states that they must have color around the eyes, the head must not be predominately white. Both boys have color around the eyes, but too much white on their heads.
Pems can not have white on the ear, but cardigans can. Also pems can not have white splashes or spots on the body, cardigans can.
In my collies, there really isn't such a thing as a mismark, just a fault in the breed is say a sable has blue eyes.
Nine isn't bad. I had ten collie puppies a few years ago. Never again. Collies are the most uncontent puppies, mess etc. Cardigans are so easy to deal with. Clean, not fussy, though one boy right now is a complainer. Always have one.
More photos tomorrow. Then dewclaws on Tuesday. It won't be long before they are leaving the nest.

Nope the boy that didn't make it was the mismark white headed boy. He just didn't look right or grow like the rest. Doc called it failure to thrive. He could have had some internal issues. We just don't know and leaving it at that.
New head shot photos are up. They are now barking and little growling. I expect ears and eyes to be open by this weekend. Getting the other puppy area ready as I usually have the first jail break at 2-3 weeks which then means they move out to the study area and get to experience the house chaos.
All are pigmenting nice and gaining well. At least an ounce a day if not more. All but one is above 1 lb at a week old. So progressing nicely.
Going to attempt side shots this weekend.

Sorry to hear about the little one that "failed to thrive." When Rhys and Andy were born, they had a sibling that "failed to thrive," also. +SAD+
The puppies sound like they are doing great! Oh, I'd love to have another puppy...but I know I can't. Boo.:TWITCHY:

Here's a link to a few candids of the almost 4 week old kids. They got moved to general population this week but Momma's not happy. She isn't as free as she was before and has become a 24 hour buffet. Started grueling this week and all are doing well. I can't pick a favorite. Wish I had show homes for more then five of them as they are all turning out nice.
Dove is a momma's girl-can you tell? They are all interested in Marg's ears-they jump at them, grab them and chew on them. She has the patience of a saint, even giving up her personal dog bed for the babies.

Okay, I am officially in love with Frank! His precious little face reminds me of a St Bernard puppy I had once (IETS Rachmaninoff) named Rocky. He had the same facial markings. Wish I could have another corgi!
My second choice would be Harry, because of the fluffly look he already has.

Thanks guys! Been so busy around here that I forgot to post the update. We have a corgi picnic at our house this weekend and expecting upwards of 30 people and dogs!
They are all having tons of fun outside and the real fun play is starting. I had a BOD meeting for the kennel club so didn't get home till very late. The following items were relayed to me:
Seems Dove has learned the steps up to the front door. That's three steps and goodness, she's staying here?
Harry had a one on one close encounter with a duck last night and was good until it quacked at him. Decided it was time to run very fast the other direction. FYI-duck was on the other side of the fence in the duck yard.
Then I guess they all cornered their grandmother Tuli up on the top step and Alec found her all bewildered and unsure of how to escape.
Lastly dear George was hiding in the tall grass last night and thought that Alec couldn't see him. But as Alec got closer, George slunk lower in the grass, then when Alec was within 2 ft, the tip of his tail started wagging until his whole body was wagging and he pounced on Alec.
:BIGGRIN" Hey John, don't you have something to add???
Jespah
07-24-2008, 06:59 AM
John???? Are you perhaps getting a "sibling" for Will??????? :BIGGRIN"
jakort1
07-24-2008, 11:14 AM
YES! I contacted Cindy about 9-10 months ago and asked to be put on the pup waiting list. We've emailed back and forth and now the time is drawing close. Will is (and the rest of us) anxiously awaiting George. There's something right about bringing a "shark" to the Ocean State!:CUTE:
The pup will be entered into local shows after it reaches six months and we'll see how it all goes. My son will be working with the pup in obedience and eventually working for a therapy dog title so he can take the dog to visit nursing homes, etc.
Overall, this will be a wonderful addition to the family!

Last but not least, the ten week photos of the kidlets are up on the website. It's the last time they are all together. We did a pup evaluation with a long time breeder and several other people.
Frank who is staying with us stood out as the pick. George, aka Rogue was a close second.
Bear and Shaker were right in the mix and well Harry was hairy and we all wished he didn't have so much-he was right up there as a pick pup.
The lone little girl was termed elegant and very well put together. The other comment made was no wonder I had such a hard time deciding what to do with them-they are all nice in their own right.
Right now we just have two boys left to place--Torch the mismark and Trouble. Both would be great companions or performance pups
And yes-John----it does look like I have a death grip on Rogue. That little bugger is way too happy and his butt never stops wiggling! Make sure to hold him securely-we love to call him the WeeHaa boy and he has this devilish look on his face. Oh he's full of it and actually will be the pup I miss the most. Been told that I shouldn't sell him but keep him ;0)

Oh and if you get a chance, look at the updates on the horse pages. David did pretty darn good at the State Fair draft horse show with his clydesdale-Glory.

Well Rogue(formerly know as George) is getting his frequent flyer miles today and heading out to his new home with John.
Crossing fingers and paws that all goes well. He wasn't thrilled with the whole crate thing and no siblings to play with but he managed to charm all the airport personnel as we were getting our paperwork in order. Little flirt.
Good luck Rogue!! Have fun John!!!
And that leaves Dove, Frank, Torch and Trouble at home. Last two boys are still seeking homes.

It's way too quiet at home now with Rogue gone. But need not worry, the boys come home tonight along with a visitor for the weekend(dog I am handling at a show). So it won't be quiet for long. And boy do I miss the boys--been one long month with out them.
Sigh, they aren't little babies anymore :0(

Well it may be quiet there (and I don't know how it can be with Dove and Frank there along with the rest of your cardi-group), but Will and Rogue have been playing non-stop this morning. Will is more like a mother hen then an alpha male:SPINNY:

There's not much for shows around until Jan or Feb that I'll go to. The RI shows that I like to attend are the same time as the nationals again!
