Saw this on Itchmo today. Maybe this is something that could be used for potty training rather than the bell hanging from the door.

Too cute! Except that Trevor always barks when the doorbell rings. I can just see it: step on the chime to get let out bark, bark bark, step on it again, bark bark bark - an endless circle!

LOL that is what would probably happen here too! Doorbell would set my two off...shoot, i can't havea doorbell ring on TV without the two of them starting up! funny. Now as for bells, i have a bell tied on some fishing line that is on the back door, Dillon was taught as a puppy to ring the bell with his nose, and i would open the door, and now Gus has learned how to ring the bell as well. The best part, they rarely ring the bell to go out unless they actually have to go potty... it is really nice to have them trained to that as i dont have to worry if i am busy with something that i might miss a signal...

Ha, lucky you they only ring the bell when they have to actually go potty. Trevor is very good about going to the door to be let out, but that cold mean I have to out to potty, I have to go out to chew grass, I have to go out to sniff the air...
Oh, and if they ever come out with a training device that sounds like the phone ringing, I am doomed - Trevor will go off if he even sees you pick up the phone! :TWITCHY:

you know how i trained that the bell meant you have to go DO something? well, he rang, i would open the door and SHOO him down into his pen, then i would stand over him saying " pee, pee, pee, pee" over and over again until he did, then i would praise him a lot...if he wanted to come in with me, fine, if he wanted to stay out that was his opportunity to stay outside a bit longer. If he didnt pee when i told him to within about 2 minutes, i would go down , get him and bring him in the house... if he rang again, i would not let him out , he would have to wait 5 minutes and then if he rang i would repeat the process. one time he rang over and over again and didnt want to potty, so i took the bell off the door...he gave up bugging me, but i had to watch him - he went to the door an hour later, and i put the bell up and he rang it once , i let him out and he peed...so now, he doesnt try the contant ringing or he knows that the bell goes away and he may have to hold it in longer...
Gus learned everything from watching Dillon - we only gave him basic instruction and were watching him carefully for any ring gets me jumping up and saying "wanna go OUT" and then the door magically opens... Gus understands what the bell means and only uses it when he really has to go .

I like that Emilie - Link is a "constant ringer" too. Every few minutes sometimes. I'll try taking it away when he's like that.

That Pet Chime is interesting, I'd consider using that, next time.
And the Pet Cell, that might be good for those with a large tract of land. There are small GPS things that go on young children's shoes to track them.

They actually make tennis shoes with the GPS already in them; useful for families with loved ones suffering from alzheimers.

Oh boy, a cell phone for Trevor! I liked those links, too: the Canine Camera would be fun, oh and the Doggy PDA is just what we need to keep track of the next Corgi Meetup!
Emilie, I am so impressed that you've taught the boys to use that bell. Here's what would happen in my house: the Blue-Eyed Devils would be pawing at it 24/7. That in turn would cause Trevor, who desperately wants to play with them (it's not reciprocated :NAH: ) to get in on the action. So we'd have the Bells of St. Genevieve going off day and night!
