Delilah is definitely getting comfortable with her new life on the truck with mom. Yesterday she almost jumped all the way in the truck on her own, and this morning she made the whole jump (there are stairs, but they are space very steep, so it can be hard for dogs to actually make the jump). Mom just sent me this photo. It's a little hard to see because it was taken with a camera phone, but if you look you can see my mom's foot in the drivers seat on the left... and the gear shift on the right. Mom said Delilah didn't even wake up when they started rolling this time. Here's the pic.

That is just too precious! Thanks for the updates, and I'm glad she's adjusting to life aboard a truck!! :D

 I would seriously advise caution on letting that be a regular thing. Far too steep a jump either up or down and the potential for back and growth plate injury is too great a risk. <IMHO> MDH drives a truck and I wouldn't let any of our corgis - puppy or adult make that leap.

I have to agree with Debbie. In fact when I first started in corgis (YEARS ago!) I was cautioned not to let them go up or down stairs or jump at all. It's not good for a growing puppy's bones and joints.

I don't forbid it totally but I do limit stairs and jumping. I limit jumping to very low things, not even beds, so yes, I think jumping into and out of a truck is too much to allow a puppy to do. In fact having seen the size of them, I think it's asking for trouble for an adult corgi too. Please lift her in and out.

I was advised of the same thing for the stairs - I live on the top of a three story walk-up and I carried Riley and Rupert up and down for the first 7 months of their lives. They both developed just fine taking them from that point on. And I got big muscles from carrying them - so it was all good!!!;)

Yeah, I guess I should explain that mom didn't encourage the jump. She has been picking her up to put her in and out of the truck reguarly... and will continue to do so... but it does show that Delilah is accepting the truck as her home and is comfortable being in it now which is a big step from how nervous she seemed the first couple of days.

That is wonderful news Cheryl that she is liking the truck. I am sure it makes your mom's job a whole lot easier with a pup for company. Truckdriving is a hard job. Tell your mom I said hello and hope she makes it this way for the TN picnic.

I was pleased that she made the effort to get into the truck, however, I don't encourage it. I am trying to teach her to stand up and put her front paws on the bottom step (makes it easier to pick her up) and then put her in the truck. She seems to be adjusting very well. I was concerned at first because she wasn't eating her food. But her activity level has also gone down. She eats when she wants to. I put out the regular daily food and she will eat when she gets hungry. We make sure we get lots of walks and play time during the day. Have a few pages of a diary I was keeping for her, that I will post when I can. Wireless internet can be tricky to get out here on the road! More later guys. I am sooooo glad to be here!

Glad to see your trucken' buddy has "taken" to the road :p

after driving 1180 miles in the last 3 days I have a LOT of respect for your work! Drove from WV to Charlotte NC, then on to Atlanta the next day and returned to NC that day, next day drove Son to Elkins WV and then I went back home

NEVER want to do that by myself again LOL

Em and I went out for errands today... she started in the back seat.... 1st stop I get back in the car - Emma's in the passenger seat. Next stop I come back and she's in the Drivers Seat! I just laughed and said "who do you think you are Delilah?"

She loves errand day

I have taken to riding in the backseat when we go with our corgi boys. They both wanted to ride in the front seat with me on my lap and no way could I change their minds so now the three of us are in the back and my husband is the chauffeur. They are both content as long as I am in the backseat with them.:D

Well, mom is in Omaha, NE tonight... should be picking up a load and heading our way tomorrow. She is supposed to be spending 3-5 days with me here on break before hitting the road. Hopefully she will be here late Saturday/early Sunday. When she gets here get ready for crazy corgi pictures galore! LOL

Both mine have a side of the back seat that is theres... in my car they have their harnesses and are buckled in on their side. they ride well that way and i dont have to worry about them flying forward on a fast stop or them coming into the front to bug me while i am driving...

Yes, she does. Her handle is "Baby Doll". Mine is "Inchworm". We have covered 6106 miles since the 3rd of April. I'M TIRED! Delilah and I are here for the next three days visiting with Checkers, Gator, Cheryl, Justin and Luke. Then it's back on the road!

ARRRHHHH!!! Delilah left me a present in the front seat! It was 4am when I got up, got dressed and realized she had gotten out of bed during the nite. I know it was my fault, but it's still agravating to sit down in dog poop! I had been so tired the nite before that I went to sleep after finishing the run. Woke up, went in for dinner and came back to the truck (with every intention of walking her again). Instead, I fell asleep again! And of course, she had a "soft" bowel movement. Surprised me that she jumped up into the drivers seat to take care of her problem, instead of on the floor mat.

Wow,

You guys have been all over; that is a lot of miles - surely Delilah must have some story to tell us all about someone she met - I would imagine she would draw people around when you guys stop for breaks; and a potty on the front seat would not be nice:p

wow, you have gone far! That is a lot of miles! Sitting in a big pile of dog poop would definately NOT be my idea of a happy wake up call! I would much rathar a hot cup of coffee!

aaaaahhhhhhh I'm with Kristy - thought stepping barefoot in poo was bad but Patricia should now be given the title of "Ms. Worst Poo Mishap 2007" spring addition....

would anyone like to try and take away Patricia's crown???

Patricia I had a road trip last week and drove little over 1000 miles in 3 days - don't ever want to do that again by myself ... hats off to you!!!

Thank you for the new title.....I always wanted to be a "MS or Miss" whatever....LOL!

She finally knows what snow is! We got to play in that last snow storm in NE Pennsylvania. Went to sleep in the rain and woke up in the snow! (If Cheryl will show me how, I will attach her videos that I took with my phone. Unless she already has.)

As for meeting people, she tries....I watch the people around us and their dogs to make sure she is protected at all times. Some people (can you believe it?!) just don't like dogs! We were at the Petro in Girard, OH about a week ago when we had to have a tire fixed on the trailer. The guys in the shop said she could get out of the truck and come into the shop waiting room. So she did. She was such a good girl! We got to meet 3 drivers from the Miami, FL area. They were very much dog lovers. I made her sit until they indicated that they would like to pet her......of course, if this adorable little dog is sitting on the floor, wiggling all over, points her nose at you and says "Woooo Wooooo Wooooo Wooo!", how hard would it be to not pet her!?

Then a couple of days later, we were picking up in Martinsburg, WV at a place that had a big green field of grass. We got to play with a wiener dog named "Rocky". He was a couple of months younger than her, but they had a great time.

Of course, now she is getting to play with Checkers and Gator.

Click on her video book to see short clips of her in the snow. My cell phone only lets me take very short videos! I wish I had thought of this on the first snow in Minnesota.....she was a real treat to watch the first time she had ever touched or seen snow!

the video of Delilah playing in the snow is really cute- this was her first time ever seeing snow? Dillon loves the snow, he plays in it, he eats it, its all good! Now Gus seems to like the snow too, he rolls in it making grunty growly sounds. Sounds like you both are having such a fun time traveling around together, and Delilah sure is getting a lot of attention! ( but who could possibly resist the corgi? ;) )

A truckin' corgi? What a hoot! What a cute puppy! Your corgi will be the most traveled corgi here! I bet you will have many fun stories from the road. I have a friend that drives truck ...and I know how hard he works. I respect truckers, they work hard long hours and because of them, I get fresh vegetables in December.
I cried when I read the post about sitting in dog poo...oh Lord that must have been a bummer.
Please most more from the road and post more pics of your adorable pup!

Sitting in dog poo . . . NOT how I want to start my day!!!! And you can have that crown - no challenges from me!!!

Other than that, it sounds like you gals are doing well on the road. Hope you enjoy your visit with Cheryl and family. Be sure to shoot some more videos!:D

I was thinking, if she was sleeping on the floorboard earlier, she wasn't going to poop there. Your seat was where she doesn't sit.

They always need to go when we are tired. Thanks for the remember of what is ahead having a puppy!

I thought of you when we drove back from MT and I saw a woman trucker, but you weren't in UT yet. Do you ever head farther south to CA?, not that I'd wish our congested highways on any trucker. I need a lesson on our 3/4 ton Chevy that I'm too chicken to try driving yet.

We did spot a beefy corgi sticking out of a pickup truck window in UT - don't know how the driver drove it! I was able to see the two Pembrokes in my husband's home town in Columbus MT, but bad weather prevented us from visiting them.

Cheryl will be able to keep everyone up-to-date on which states we are in. Yes, I have driven in the lower CA area. Actually, the only state I have never driven an 18-wheeler in is Vermont!

I won't be driving in the Chicago or New York City areas anymore, and I can't go to Canada with the truck I have now. It is a Kenworth W900L. The wheelbase is too long with the 53' trailers for those areas.

Our truck number for the time being is 48623. Watch for us! Honk your horn and wave if you see us!

Aww Merrie.... wish you had given us a ring when you went through Utah, you probably drove right by us (I-15). No fun!Couldn't this trip because of figuring out the quirks of our "new" 72 chevy truck we were driving home. The gas tank we determined after overflowing the left tank, flip to the right and the left fills up! The starter gets too warm so you have to sit for 1/2 hour after stopping after a long drive. Good to know to stop before you need gas. A gentleman with a truck towing a long boat was kind enough to help us push it out of his way so he could gas up. These are easy enough fixes, but not ones to do on the road. We are having VIN number hassles so MT may force us to drive the truck back to have THEM physically apply the new VIN number. I keep saying it is easier than what CA would put us through. Hubby would do that road trip, if required, with a co-worker.
