I know we have talked about dangerous foods for dogs/cats before such as Chocolate, onions and raisins and also Xylitol mentioned below. I was surprised to read that as few as three sticks of sugarless gum can put a dog into liver failure.

Wow, I'd never even thought of suarless gum as being harmful to pets.
Recently I've been hearing more about coffee being poisonous to pets also, which I hadn't heard before.

Yep - it can be an issue - I have to watch Jemma as she is a devil for scraping gum off the sidewalk and eating it! Almost all gum is sugarfree now, so it's best to try and keep any gum away from dogs.

thanks for the reminder! Leah seems to always have gum in her backpack - and Chloe loves to snoop

Oh, Trevor will do a "flyby" and scoop up just about anything on the sidewalk, if I'm not watching like a hawk!
Linda, I had no idea about xylitol; thanks for posting this. Guess it's just one more thing I have to start looking for on labels and such!

Xylitol is in the Shaklee "toothpaste" that I dabbed on Pepper's tongue when we couldn't stand her breath. Glad it was I guess small enough that it didn't harm her and we got the dog paste.
Never can understand why we would want a sweetener in a dog product. It is the smell of meat or fish that kept mine under my feet in the kitchen. Well, and cheese, and.....the list goes on for a corgi.
