Besides not wanting our puppy to get shocked, we don't want an expensive lamp that has a lifetime warranty to be voided from the cord being chomped. It is a floor lamp, against a wall, with a cord to an outlet.

Need opinions: Should I run the cord through plastic pipe?
Metal pipe (conduit)?
Or attempt to box in the area the cord is, because the lamp is against the wall?

Plastic pipe is the easiest (easiest to cut) but I worried that because it fits a puppy's mouth just right that it wouldn't be the best.

This isn't a tripping hazard, it is a temptation avoidance because it is in our dining/family, where we usually are, room.

My suggestion is not very decorative - but you could put an x-pen around it.
You could also do the plastic pipe and then coat it in bitter apple or some other chew-preventive.

see, i guess i am not the one to ask, i never protected any cords, i was super watchful, so anytime dillon went near anything that was not his i would say Ehhhh or NO and he would stop immediately. When i couldnt really watch him , he was crated or gated in an area with no cords... he never chewed anything that wasnt his though. I think the plastic would be even more tempting to chew - metal would be a tripping hazzard to the people but no dog would want to chew on that!

Merrie,

When we had our velveteen lop (rabbit), I went to an auto parts store and got some really cheap wire conduit. Worked great for cords and they couldn't chew through it easily. I also was a diligent bunny mom and made the same "Ahh ahh" noise when he started to get in to things he shouldn't.

Hope that's helpful!

I knew I should have posted a picture because I can't describe like my son can. The lamp is over our table and our table is against the wall the lamp comes up from. The cord is hidden under the table. Pepper loved to lay there with her head on my ankle while I read or ate. I'm being realistic knowing we'd like to sit and not worry about what is under the table for the puppy. Sounds like metal conduit is the winner and it is hidden by the table, but remember no decorating contest in my home. I hang my laundry above the wood stove in the winter which we look at when we eat!

Now upstairs living room is another story with the tiffany glass fireplace screen. The puppy will only be in that room when we are watching TV.

At least I have one nice room in my 4 bedroom house. My son is looking at this office saying "this is a bedroom?" They build homes very strange here.
