Anybody have experience with canine cysts? Midge had one on her right shoulder and I just had it removed last month. It had been there for a couple years, was painless, slow growing and benign. It grew to about the size of a walnut and was fluid filled. Tonight I was petting her and there's a new one in exactly the same place, but on the other shoulder. Coincidence? Or could it possibly be caused by something like her harness rubbing there?

Yes, Riley my first Corgi had the fatty cysts and Rupert has one right now. The vets can usually tell by palpating it or if need be taking a "sample" if it is a fatty or benign cyst/lump.

Rileys was in a funny place on her back, and as they can suddenly grow large, I chose to have it removed in case in put her spine in danger. Rupert's is not anywhere it is an issue - I just check it now and then for size.

I don't have any experience with canine cysts, but since this second one is exactly opposite of the first, I'd ask about it at the Vet's. It might have something to do with her harness, especially if it is a bit tight. Hope it's nothing.

What kind of a cyst is it? You say fluid filled, such as watery fluid or? Is it a sebacious cyst or one that's totally under the skin?

If it's a sebacious cyst they often come back after being removed. They can be drained though. And yes, if it's this the harness might be part of the problem.

If it's a fluid filled or fatty cyst then it's hard to say if the harness is causing the problem or making it worse.

I had one myself, on my back. It was very weird because a physical therapist found it because I was complaining about nerve irritation around my shoulder blade. The surgeon said it couldn't be the cause of it, but he removed it and the problem disappeared. So I still wonder.

My last corgi developed a cyst, when he got older. My vet said it was probably a fatty cyst and they would keep a watch on it. They checked it at each vet visit, it did not change, and nothing ever came of it. It was on his side, kind of squishy feeling, and never seemed to cause him any pain or problems.

Jinjo has fatty cyst's (Lipoma's) all over. The worst is on his shoulder under the skin (large, about walnut sized). He has a few others, outer skin tag like, hear and there, one is in his arm pit. I've elected because of his other health issues to do nothing other than asprit (sp?) them, just to make sure none are cancer.

My poor 13-yo Lab Tess has fatty lumps all over! She has a tennis ball sized-one on the side of her neck and one about the same size drooping on her belly! Plus some smaller ones.

They are just fat, though, and don't cause her any discomfort...she is too old to be put under anesthesia for removal (unless one was malignant and the risk was worth it).

I jsut recently found one on Jax and we had it checked out at the vet yesterday. He called it a lipoma and just like everyone says, they're mostly just nothing to be concerned.
