April 29th 2006 Dylan won his second leg and earned his first freestyle title, FDN....Freestyle Dog, Novice!
We also came in third place out of 8 entries in the Novice class, which surprised me. I was so worried that his leg would bother him, but it didn't. I was fully prepared for him to do some 'inovated moves', but he didn't.
What he did do was to focus on our trainer, Ray Underwood, who was the MC. We entered the ring, and he took one look at Ray on the side line & I completley lost his focus! Now after Dylan has done so well focusing on me in the OB ring this was so unexpected, we did recover fairly quickly, but I was a bit rattled for the entire routine. Guess he figured it was Saturday, class day, and he just wanted to say hello.
It made for a good laugh for us all, after he won his leg.
Here is a Video clip of Our First Dance, it was very 'rough'. I was so scared I forgot the last part of our routine and had to wing it! The event was Boot Scootin Boogie June 2005. Our routine got much smoother after that for the April 2006 win.

I LOVE that video. Could watch it over and over.. Dyl so handsome in his cute little bowtie!!! And he just looks so happy, looking at the crowd like "isn't this great? She's awesome! What fun!". It's one of the first videos I found when looking in to corgis at the beginning of my research.
Gives us something to aspire to! +WUBCLUB+

I wanted to watch that but when I clicked on the link, the access was denied. Must be the computers here so, guess I'll have to wait until I get home.+SAD+ Nevertheless, congratulations to you and Dyan on your FDN, Barbara. I'm sure Dylan was a cutie in that bow tie.

Loved the music. Loved the bow tie. Loved you and the Corgi.
What more could you ask for. Honestly, Dylan and you looked like you were having a ball! I can't imagine getting Tucker to do that. Lulu maybe, she has a sense of humor. Tucker I think would get frustrated.
Very impressive!

Oh, that was fantastic, Barbara!! I loved it when Dylan rolled over and then walked backward.:CUTE: When are you going to teach him to do the split?

Right after I teach myself to do it David!
Well, I used to do the splits, but that was when I was 8 years old and wore a yellow ballet tutut.

oh WOW!!!!
I didnt know corgis can do this type of dancing. How long did it take you to train him?

How long did it take to train him? He was quick, I took much longer.
Well, we statrted mid Feb one year, were ready for a competition the end of May, but I chickened out and waited until the fall of that year to enter, he won his first leg. The following spring he won his second required leg for his title FDN. Freestyle Dog Novice. We only have 2 competitions a year here. One in BC & one in WA that are within driving distance.
So really, only a few months. I practiced with Dylan almost every day, about 5-10 mintes only.He loves it. But, I practiced about 30 minutes a day on my own. The dogs learn separate moves/tricks, and remember them very well. But I had to learn & remember the entire routine.
Everytime I turn iTunes on the computer he comes running into the kitchen, my boy loves to dance!: Oh, and he like the cheese too.

TOO CUTE! Love the bowtie. It won't be long before you're doing all the fancy moves that one woman does with her golden....freestyle is too much fun to watch; I laugh out loud every time!

You mean Carolyn Scott & Rookie. No, neither of us could ever be that good!!!
We were lucky enough to attend one of her 3 day seminars in WA. What a blast, about 25 of us gals and our dogs, dancing and having fun for the whole time! An experience I will always remember. And Rookie, what a dog. He has retired now, I'm so glad that I got to meet them both in person.
Last summer Dylan and I were booked for another Freestyle Seminar, but that's when my poor pupper blew his ACL had his surgery.
I forgot to point us out, Dylan Montrose and I are a the far left.

Just watched the video and I am so tempted to wake up the hubby and make him watch it, what the heck, he doesn't need sleep, I'm going to give him a call! Loved the music, and the tie is super cute, the roll over was very impressive, but what REALLY got my attention was the back up move, that was SOOOOOO cute, and a move that I bet is not easy for the long Corgi. Thanks for sharing, I think that I'm going to watch it again, bye.......

I did watch it again, and again. I am now hooked on this Dog Dancing. I want to give it a try with Miss Gambler, we've enjoyed listeneing to music together since she was a puppy. I make wonderful cd's, really into mixing, and she loves music. I am honestly going to see just how much I can teach her with this, but just for fun, I could never be as professional in this as you are. Also, I ended up spending a little time on YouTube looking at dog videos, and there was a dog video to the tune of the old classic, Mr. Sandman. That song so perfectly captures the gait of a Corgi, and what made me think of it was the video is following the Corgi walking around a pool, and the timing of the song was totally in sync with the Corgi's swishing butt. Just thought that I would mention it.

My sister and I watched the video a couple more times and just howled when Dylan did that backward "moonwalk"...what a guy!!:CUTE:

I use to do that in my much younger days but, the last time I tried it at around 38-40 years old, I went a bit too far, bumped my butt on that hard concrete floor and hit my tail bone. It stung all the way up to my neck and of course, I acted cool like nothing happened but shortly thereafter, I went outside to the car so I could moan for about fifteen minutes. Never did it again!!

Barbara,
I love that video. Have watched it several times. He is so tuned into you and yet seems to have this strut and is looking at the crowd as if to say "look at me, I am great". You should be very proud, he is a great little guy.:BIGGRIN" And you made the Bowtie, right?
Barbara,
Do you have that link of the video of the Golden retriever(what is his name?) you posted it once before, I think - not sure if MGM ever saw that.
Just checked down further and saw you mentioned Rookie - that was his name.

That's my favourite move that Dylan does too! Now he doesn't have a big fuzzy butt like his sister, but he more than makes up for that at the other end with his great big smile.

and I think it would be great to teach Miss Gambler a little dance routine, get her dressed up in something cute and sparkley... Do they have any freestyle classes in Vegas? You could take a few classes with her... not sure what pre-requisites there might be, i know at my school you have to have a minimum of basic obedience level 2 to do it ( basically they have to be able to sit, down, stay, come to you when called and work a little off leash with other dogs around)...

I have a friend, an extremely accomplished Freestyler, and she told me that she picked her last costume first and then worked out a routine for it! Sparkle!!
Go for it! And check further into this forum, I've started a Freestyle learning thread for you.

CorgiMum: Just slightly off base here, but you put Dylan in your hot tub, and I'm wondering if you are concerned about the heat, or do you turn it down really low. That's what we've been doing, and not allowing too much time. But I have been thinking that it may still be too warm. We have a small lap pool, and they seem to really like going into it after the hot tub, so maybe they're getting too hot.

Delta, we checked with our Vet and he said 85 degrees was ok for him. Also we use bromide, not chlorine in the water.
He was wearing a vest in that pic as it was before his ACL surgry, after it, he did not wear the vest.
I'm planning on getting a small pool for him this summer that I saw at PetSmart.

In that photo of Dylan in the hot tub he looks a lot like the one that winked at me Sunday.
Eddie Murphy had a video out some years back where he did a skit dressed up like James Brown (wig and all) and was singing and dancing around the "Celebrity Hot Tub" singing "hot tub...going to make me wet...going to make me sweat-Owwwww...too hot in the hot tub!!(as he sticks his toe in the water) It was hilarious. That's Dylans' Celebrity Hot Tub.
