Documentation of our NQ. +SAD+

I didn't find out until the day before that it was being held outdoors. I've only had one Ob training session with him outside of a building.

We weren't given a copy of our paperwork from the judge, but I did get to copy out our list of numbers, it was pass or fail on each exercise, not points off.

Exercises......................................... ..Points

1. Heel on lead & Figure 8.....................40.................0......fi gure 8 wasn't too bad
2. Stand for examination.......................30.............. .30.....Judge said Perfect!
3. Heel free........................................40.... .............0
4. Recall............................................ 30................30
5. Long Sit..........................................30... ............30
6. Long Down.......................................30..... ...........0 He stood up to watch the Rally a few feet away right in the next ring. Our Rally class is tomorrow night. :ER:

Maximum score....................................200...... ........90

Perfect recall and finish by my furry little toad! The judge was very impressed and complimented him on his finish.

Perfect SFE by my furry little monkey.

Heeling, forget about it!!!! My furry little beastie did not know that I existed!

Wish there had been points, so that I could check out hander errors. The video that Gary took turned out wonky, I really wanted to view our (my) movements to learn from. But I at least know what the issue is. Heeling. The judge suggested taht I could have used a chain collar for him. I have since and we are practicing heeling. Guess its good that we really only have one issue to work hard on. Sun & Mon he wore the chain and it has made a huge difference to his attention to me.

Still uploading the video to YouTube, will add it here, but Gary forgot to pause between exercises so it's 11 min long. Feel free not to watch it at all.

I may have a good clip to add, Laurie, Gary is counting on the fact that he thinks you took some clips of us.

Thanks Tana, once he gives in on the heeling situation, consistently, we should be ok.

No matter however it worked out, its just so neat that you and The Man Dan are out there competing. You and he will just get better and better and have great fun together. Its going to be fun to watch you two take on the OB World!

I don't think it's so bad. Danny is making a great start out there - and as you said, he was outside and that would have thrown him. You have to start somewhere - no point starting at perfection - then the journey is done!

You two have a long and successful career ahead of you - you'll look back at this one day and chuckle.

Dan The Man did have a good time Julie, and he seemed to be confused as to why I wasn't quite as happy as he was.:ER: So I think that is was a positive experience for him, and that's the most important thing to me.

Ya, I was spoiled by Dyl Bob, he did all of the 3 required legs, One, Two, Three and got his CD.

Oh I chuckled, but not until a bit later in the day. Since the heeling pattern is the first exercise I was a bit taken aback to have my partner literally dragging me around the ring as soon as we entered.+EMBARRASED+

I'm going to look around and see when we have a Match close to home soon so that we can get in more practice.

I am rather surprised at the heeling results since Danny was paying attention to you and looked good when you gave us the little demo and tips at the rv park. It's like the Olympics I guess, it's how one performs on that given day.
You and Danny have a long career ahead of you so I wouldn't sweat it.

Ahhhhh who wants to down when they can watch Rally in the next ring?

Congratulations and you two had fun! What can be better than that? (heeling maybe?)

Actually, for a first time out AND in an unfamiliar setting (outside) it sounds like he did pretty well! And yes, I am sure that the first time his enjoyment is the most important thing! I think you deserve an award anyway!!+1ST++CHEER+

I thought you two actually did pretty well for your first time out. If you could see a video of Bella's first agility trial (thankfully, there isn't one!) you would see me standing in the middle of the ring calling her while she either sniffed or repeatedly ran through tunnels! +DRUN+
I thought it was great that Danny didn't show any ring stress, he thought it was fun. That's a good indication of how well he will work with you in the future. He was so excited when you got into the ring that "heel" just wasn't in his vocabulary. I do have a video as well, not sure how good it is. Would you like me to add it to my youtube site?

Well, personally, I'm very impressed!! As one who has never competed with a dog in any format, I think you two are amazing and obviously off to a long, successful partnership in everything you do!

:LAUGH:Well, I hope he learned something while watching:LAUGH:

It sounds like you did great anyway - like Deb said, there's no point starting at perfection!

Yes Danny did much better in the practice area, I doubt if the pavement was as interesting as the grass ring area after a dozen dogs had already worked on it.:TWITCHY:
We went for a nice walk again today, and I'm not getting him to heel, I'm teaching him that walking along fairly close to me is where he is to be. As long as his fuzzy butt is not ahead of me he's good.

He was so excited when you got into the ring that "heel" just wasn't in his vocabulary. You mean like when he couldn't remember the word Stand on Friday afternoon?:TWITCHY: At least that one came back to him on Saturday!

I do have a video as well, not sure how good it is. Would you like me to add it to my youtube site? Looking forward to it when you have time to load it. Gary says thank you too.

I added it to my youtube page! Of course youtube decided about halfway through the download that they needed to perform some site maintenance, so instead of being titled "Danny's Obedience Debut!" it is called Cap79. I'll fix it when they are up and running 100% again. Here is the link, it wouldn't let me embed it here "NO:":

The video you took is great !! Our performance in heeling isn't!:TWITCHY:

Don't think that I want to train him for outdoor trials, there are opportunities here though.

I like going to indoor, all Ob trials, without fun Rally happening in the next ring.

Thanks again Laurie, and I noticed that I didn't even keep my knees together on the figure 8 turns.+EMBARRASED+

I'll be rewatching it many times & picking out my hander errors.

Barbara:

Danny was so cute in his video. It was neat how even after he sat up to watch the rally dog in the other ring, you got him right back down and focused on you. In my opinion (though I admit, I don't know much about it), he was just a STAR. You guys really are going to have fun together.

The video is great to see there is work involved! I've only played a little so far and Chester is laying on the floor with little barks back at what he has heard. Sounds like a lot of distractions. All those smells in the grass, wow. Course Chester would have been thrilled just to see some grass. :TWITCHY:

I finally finished watching - wow the length of the stays. Danny yawning, and I got bored and impatient too. I overheard one woman yell "stop pulling". A lot going on at that park.

Hey... at least he didn't pee on anyone!!!!!

I am impressed with the Stand for Exam. My two, in Obedience, hate stand for exam.

They do it all the time. They stand to get dried off, in herding I am having a hard time getting her to lie down while the sheep are even in the same county but she will stand perfectly still....

But Stand For Exam.... forget it! One of the reasons I have not really entered them in Obedience.... Well... that and just about every other thing they evaluate... My two actually walk into the ring well..... and then all bets are off!

Well, you may not have Q'd, but watching the video I'm sure impressed! +WUBCLUB+ If my dogs paid nearly as much attention to me I'd be thrilled! I'm sure you'll go far!
