I put Link in his crate today so I could go to the doctor, he was in for a couple hours (which he is used to). When I got home and let him out he was well behaved as he usually is, but curled up as far back as he could possibly get. The front corner of the blankie in the crate was soaked with pee.

He's been perfect so far in the crate - no pee, no poo. He was out and did his job shortly before going in there, and he had a lightly stuffed Kong as usual. It's not a large crate, the next smaller sixe would certainly be too small so it's not the too large crate thing going on. Why would he do this out of the blue?

did he play hard this morning, or was it particularly warm today? i ask because every once in a while Dillon will drink a LOT of water all at once and then has to pee very very badly a short time later.. it might just be something like that... I am sure if he has been good all this time, he just had no other choice. I would throw the bedding in the wash and clean out his crate really well. I am sure he will be fine... sometimes little accidents happen ( Dillon had one pee accident in his crate at about that age too- and he only had 10 accidents in the house from the time we brought him home to present... so it was shocking to me too)

I wouldn't read too much into it - he's a youngster and he just had to go - is probably all it is. The boys can go in increments - at least that's Rupe's style. Jemma empties each time she goes - Rupe rations so he'll have enough to spread around the 'hood!!

I have this problem with Mojo, and I know she isn't a Corgi, but the problem MAY be the same. She loves her blankee, so when I started putting her in the crate with no blanket, no accident, with blanket there is an accident EVERY time, without fail. It would seem that she just liked to go on something soft, and not a habit that I wanted to start because carpet is soft, so are certain pieces of furniture, and of course the bed, where she sleeps.

Thanks for the replies. My son had put a very cushy quilt in there weeks ago (that's what he peed on), I took that out, washed it good and put it away. Now there is just a towel in there. We'll see how it goes. He's been so good lately it really took me by surprise. We even solved the bedroom shag carpeting problem (by spending *supervised* time in there - so easy!). Anyway, he was good as usual overnight, and hopefully it was a rare incident.

Ugh, he did it again last night. There was only the towel in there. He went pee outside at 9:30 pm, then into his crate, woke at 6 am, the towel seemed to have been wet for a while already. He didn't have water before bed, but did have a few Newman's treats. This is the first time he's ever peed in the crate overnight since we got him.

How old is Link now?

I still wouldn't really worry - what is the cut-off time for water with him? His bladder may still be small enough that sometimes he can't make it through the night. I was told by my vets that it takes the full first 2 years for all the body parts to be completely developed and ready to go. You may need to cut the water off earlier for him.

He's 17 weeks old. What concerns me is that he's been so good about this until now. He's slept through the night with no accidents or potty breaks from the start at 11 weeks. Maybe a growth spurt or something?

I'll keep an eye on the water intake...

mToy,

I agree with Deb, his bladder may still be too small for him to hold it through the night. When Cody was that age I would always make sure he did not drink anything past 8 - 8:30 p.m.(and even at that hour, it was a few laps) - his last outing was usually around 10- 10:30 p.m. - of course I had to make sure that late in the evening was more quiet time, rather than vigorous playing time because then he would then have needed a drink.

Try not to worry, he is still young, and besides washing the towel, are you thoroughly cleaning out the crate to get any remainining urine smell out?

Yes, I cleaned his crate with odor neutralizer after the last incident. Today I took it all apart and gave it a deep cleaning, neutralized it and it's now baking in the sun. I'll put a new (to him) towel in there tonight that has never been peed on. And for me, I'll try more patience.:SPINNY:

Patience is the hardest part for sure. I just kept Jemma in my kitchen for the past 3 weeks (No not the whole time - during the workday!) while I'm at work as she was peeing in my dining room. Today will be day 5 of being out with Rupert in the whole apartment - and unless she's fallen off the wagon, she's been good so far. She's 16 months - so don't disparage about Link at 16 weeks - he's just a baby still don't forget.

When Shippo hit 5 months, he went backwards in his potty training for a while and started peeing in his crate, when he was fine before. I think they hit this point in their puppy hood, where they forget everything for a while lol...

It suddenly dawned on me my why he could be doing this.... We have a footbath outside for our above ground pool. We always go out to play each evening and he likes to play in the water. In fact, I put it out last week even before we opened the pool so they would have outdoor water and to play in (it's a pretty big tray). Last night I noticed he was drinking a lot of it - which is fine, it's clean and I change it often. Sure enough, he wet his crate again.

I feel like such an idiot - here I was pulling up the indoor water dish like clockwork each evening - duh!

So I guess I have 2 choices - pull up both water sources (and have dirty feet in the pool), or (maybe and/or) set my alarm to get up in the middle of the night to let him out. Maybe I can fit a smaller footbath at the top of the ladder? Or just use a towel? I'll figure it out.

Could you put an ex-pen around the footbath, as another alternative?

Nice job Sherlock!

Aha!! Mystery solved. It often amuses me that most of the training and behavior issues we have with our dogs, involves retraining and adjusting our behaviors - not their's!! :BIGGRIN"

How Big are you talking about? Could you put some larger plastic container over it when not in use - How about a plastic lid from one of those storage boxes with a brick on on top(I know, so attractive)

That's a good idea, I think I can handle that one!
