Anyone currently have their corgi working in a traning class, or plan to soon?

Danny Boy and I took the summer off, well we kept up training at home & some Drop Ins when the heat permitted.

To continue the last formal training we did in late spring, he is entered in two 5 week classes. I wish they were spread out a bit, but I talked to one of our trainers & asked her if twice a week back to back nights was too much for him and she said no, not for Danny!

So starting next week:

Tue. 6.30pm Novice Ob
Wed 8.30pm Rally-Excellence

Wed night is Gary's Vocal Lesson, but I don't need to go to that.

Gizmo does Rally-Ho, an intro to Rally, but that's done come next week, but she's looking to do a level 2 class with us.

Our petsmart trainer told me to apply for a job there with her. I'm not sure about this yet. But she said since I had been through all 3 classes, I'm almost promised a job with them.

We might be going to a rally comp. in November.

Good luck finding your niche back in class.

Not now. I need to get Jack back into an agility class but it is too hot. There aren't any good rally classes around- the one we did last spring was a one-time thing. Candy is entered in a trial in October and then we hope to go to the APDT Conference in Oakland and participate in a Rally demo, too. And I'm not sure about agility before November. Jack is still getting used to being back on phenobarbital so is a bit sleepy; hopefully by then he'll be as attentive as ever (which isn't saying much!)

It would be nice, but we're out of the class scene until I have some fun $$$. Blame the economy.+SAD+

I'm glad you brought this up as I looked up classes with a nearby instructor, but then I decided I should take Jack down for a private lesson with her. He has unique issues- his blind side- so likely we'd get more out of it, and she charges $15 for a class session and $30 for an hour private lesson so it seems like a good deal, plus I can do it at a more convenient time.

We're not doing any right now either partially for the $$ issue, but mostly because in our last agility class I was having a great deal of difficulty with my scooter dealing with uneven ground. I think it's simply not powerful enough to do it. I am also having a battery problem at the moment. We are both pretty bummed about it (I can tell Aine misses classes with me) and haven't figured out if there is another option for us to do locally.+SAD+

I'll have to live vicariously with others tales...

I think that private classes are great too. Dylan and I did them when we were doing Freestyle. And those rates are good Bobbie, ours are $50-60 for a private and usually $125 for a 5 week course, so $25 per lesson.

We are finally heading back to class (agility) on Friday Nights. Lulu is going into a skills level class where she can work on teeter and weaves and Tucker is going into a competition level class.

I have really missed it.

Both dogs are signed up for herding clinics late September and then the Potomac Club's weekend on COlumbus day weekend. I may sign Lu up for another clinic the last weekend of October.

Have fun!

I'm really looking forward to the time when I can get Danny into Agilty, he loves it so, and he is fast. Just to teach him take my directions and we'll have it made, right?

Wish I had the energy for Herding too.

Barbara,
Bella's herding instructor will handle the dog for you if you want her to. Maybe there is an instructor in your area who would do the same. Since the dog learns so much faster, it can sometimes get frustrating for them to have to drag around this inexperienced human with them.
I really like handling my own dog even though Bella would probably do much better with someone more experienced. She does sometimes get frustrated with me, she doesn't understand that unlike her, I wasn't born with a herding instinct!

Exactly, when I was doing herding with Monty way back when, she worked the sheep, but humans had to lean separately.

No?

I hadn't thought about letting someone else handle Danny. Don't know if I could do it.
