View Full Version : Zia's Limping

I think that Zia is feeling sorry for Danny. She started limping about an hour ago. I'm trying to keep her still and will be taking her to the vet in the morning if she's still limping. We've tried looking at her leg, paw, and toe nails. She hates us doing that, though. We do not see any cuts, swelling, or broken nails. I did give her a baby aspirin so hopefully she'll get over this.

{{{{Zia}}} Did she maybe slip on something? Hope that it's nothing serious and that with some rest tonight she'll be better in the am.

I don't know what she did. She was in the living room with us walking just fine and I went into the kitchen, she followed me and that's when I noticed her limping. She didn't yelp or anything so I'm not sure what she did. Thanks for the vibes. I appreciate it, Barbara.

Poor Zia! +SAD+ Maybe she just tweaked something Kristi...but I agree if she is still doing it in the morning then it is time for a vet call!

The Diva sends {{{hugs}}} and of course me too! Do keep us posted.

How is Zia today?

Kristi, I just saw this and am so sorry that Zia has a limp! Sadie is an "intermittent limper" - every once and a while she will just start limping for no apparent reason. It usually lasts a day or two and baby aspirin does seem to help. The vet hasn't been able to find anything specific. I had found that having an egg crate cushion in her crate seems to help - it's been happening much less frequently since I added the cushy pad for Her Highness!

Let us know how Zia is today!

Poor Zia! Could it be a muscle pull?

This happens to Gus often enough... Usually we will play ball and he runs very hard and fast, ( very ball motivated ) and when he is done, usually he is fine but after he lays down a while and then gets up, that is when you can see he has pulled a muscle as he gets up very limpy and hobbly. ( this has happened enough times that both my guys get the nickname "hobbly-horse" when limpy) Could it be she was playing and maybe pulled a muscle ?

This happens to Gus more than Dillon and I actually give them a shoulder massage and make them lay on the memory foam mattress dog bed in the living room vs. laying on the floor... or they can lay ion me in the recliner (that is like way softer than any memory foam mattress  and I make a nice warm bed too :TWITCHY:) Usually within a day of no ball play and massage they is back to normal.

I hope that this morning Zia is feeling back to her spunky self and is not limping. Poor girl! Sending healing vibes her way !

Sounds like what Jinjo did. He started with what looked like "is he limping?" And the next day went to full blown almost couldn't stand on it. Never found out "what" happened, but we're sure it was a tendon around his elbow/shoulder area. He's short in upper arm and his legs are spaced to close so I think he had jumped and landed wrong on the one leg. We tried pain meds for him with it, but he couldn't stomach them, so we just did rest with limited activity, no stairs or loveseat. Thats when we found he had devoloped some mild arthritis and started him on "Adequan" which actually helped more than I thought it would.

Hope Zia is feeling better today.

My rule with this kind of limping is no exercise for a couple of days to see if it dies down on it's onw - maybe baby aspirin. If it hasn't then a trip to the vet's. Often like us, they just need to rest it.

She is still limping this morning. It's not as bad as it was last night, though. I called the vet's office. They said I could bring her in if I wanted to (they are 36 miles away). They also said I could give her 2 baby aspirin every 4-6 hours and keep her confined to see if this helps. I'm going to try the aspirin and confinement. I know nothing is broke or anything like that. I've rubbed her whole leg and foot and she doesn't wince in pain. Hopefully the aspirin and rest will help. If not, we'll go to the vet. Thanks for all the vibes for her.

I bet a couple of days of good rest and aspirin will make her right as rain.

Continued good vibes for your little girl. +WUBCLUB+

Thanks, Deb. I think she must have just tweaked something. I think if it was something more serious she'd be wincing in pain. She is still putting her front feet on us (it's her front left leg/foot). I'm not really sure the vet could do anything anyway. I really don't see a need for x-rays or anything and she isn't in any pain. Can you tell that I'm trying to convince myself it's ok that we didn't go to the vet? LOL!

Continued pawsitive vibes for Zia!! Here's hoping that the limping goes away and the aspirin helps!

We tend to notice that when there is a huge weather change Annie will start limping. She played too hard as a pup and has arthritis in her right front shoulder.

Keep us posted Kristi! We send {{{HUGS}}}!

I would probably do the same thing you are doing, Kristi. A few days of rest and some baby asprin if needed should be all that is needed. I dont even give any meds to Gus when he gets limpy.. He doesn't seem to be in that much pain.. i think of when i do too much exercise and i have a bit of a pulled muscle. I rarely take anything either. If after a few days of rest she is still limping or seems to be getting worse, or any swelling, then i would be off to get xrays and a vet visit... I hope she continues to feel better as the day progresses and wont need to go to the vet !

Hope Zia is good as new soon. Bella is still limping a little too. I'm going to try soaking her paw in epsom salt today to see if that helps with the soreness. I guess it can't really hurt, other than Bella will believe she is being tortured! I'll let you know if it helps at all.

Poor Bella! I bet she does think she's being tortured!

I gave Zia two aspirin at 8:30 and by 10 she had quit limping. I went ahead and gave her two more at 12:30. She's still not limping, so I won't be giving her anymore aspirin. Thank you all for the vibes for her....once again, they worked!
