Maya's new favorite thing to do is take off running in circles with her tongue hanging out as far as it possibly can (no wonder she bit off a piece), then sprint toward the linoleum and slide all the way down the hallway until she is centimeters from slamming the front door where she magically turns on her super Corgi stopping powers. She is definitely one crazy Corgi.
It's so fun watching her develop her personality. I swear, in one week, she went from not caring much about humans at all, unless we had food, to this super cuddly puppy that always wants to be near us. She definitely has a lot of spunk though, and her all time favorite thing to do is run out the door to go outside barking like a crazy lady at everything and nothing. Then, she turns around and smiles, like she scared everything away.
And, since I'm rambling anyways, we have decided that her AKC registration name is going to be, Oh My-A What a Foxy Lady :)

VERY cute AKC name. We were sort of all set with what we would do for our pup's registered name when the time came...but we actually don't know if other breeders will let us change it like Nancy was going to. She was fine with us making it whatever we wanted after she had proof of spaying/neutering, so long as we kept her kennel name at the beginning. Anyone want to weigh in on whether or not that's generally the truth?

Only speaking from my limited experience, but our breeder wouldn't even send us the papers until they were spayed/neutered. Then, we had to keep the kennel name at the beginning and the rest was up to us.

Dillon's papers were given to me when he was 11 wks old however he was on LIMITED registration so he had to be neutered and could not be bred. The paper work that was given to me allowed me to chose whatever AKC name i wanted and then i had to send in the paperwork to the AKC. I was able to name him whatever i wanted but i did want to keep his kennel name - so Dillon's registered name is XIII Maples Late Knight Lover and Gus was already named and registered as XIII Maples Doubtless at Glenroe... and Gus was signed over to me and the paperwork is mine to send into the AKC so they have me registered as his owner...which i have not yet done becuase i still need to get to the breeder's house to have her sign over her half of Gus ( he was co owned) and he had just been neutered prior to being handed over so there was no worry that he could or would be bred ( not that i would anyway).

Sounds like you two went through a similar process to what I was expecting; spay or neuter, then get the papers for limited registration, then change the name however you want, probably keeping the kennel name at the beginning.
I think we've been through what we're set on for puppy names - Apple for a girl, Mac for a boy. :) We're cracking up at the idea of "Apple iBark" as the registered name...the question is how to incorporate "Mac" somewhere for a boy....

Generally speaking that is pretty much true. IF a breeder has a kennel name then it is a courtesy, sign of respect, pride in a sense and just the correct protocol for a new owner to use it as a part of the registered name. One ideally, should be proud of the breeder they got their pup from shouldn't they? Use of the kennel name also helps a breeder keep track of their puppies, theme names help them track which litter it was. This can be important IF for example, heaven forbid a health problem should arise and they need to look at the litter as a whole to see if there might be a wider problem and should remove the parents from their breeding program.

Mac as a call name for XXXXX's Apple iBark, is great <IMO>. The only bit of caution I'll throw out here is puppies sometimes grow into their names, so if he/she turns out to be a barker, then you'll know why. ;) Seriously, I think it is a great name tho'.

Both my girls had to keep their kennel name at the beginning of their names - different breeders. I don't have any problem with that - I agree, it's respectful.
I had full reign with Rupe as let's say his breeder wasn't as professional. So he is "Prince Rupert of the Kingsway" (The street we live on is the Kingsway).

as I have mentioned b4 I didn't register Em or Chloe - should have but...
We did our Golden Retriever years earlier...
Shades of Gold was the breeders kennel name and we thought "Tawney Shades of Gold" sounded nice...

Love Maya's registered name Jeni! SO CUTE! I didn't use Jackie's breeder's name when I registered her, and it wasn't something that was mentioned. But I am guessing that the breeder didn't care as much since she is a <gasp> fluffy. I also like your possible registered names Heather! ;)

I didn't have any choice in Andy's registered name, obviously. She is CB's Adrianna of Jaax (CB is the kennel name and Jaax is apparently the name of the kennel where Daddy came from).
Rhys - I just had to name him "CB ......". So he is CB's Disraeli Ears (hence my screen name). I study British history and like British classic rock (Benjamin Disraeli; Cream's Album Disraeli Gears) and I just changed it to Ears for obvious reasons. :D
And Jeni - LOVE Maya's registered name! ;)

Depends on the breeder. As I've said I name and register my puppies myself, so with one of mine, no you wouldn't be able to change the registered name.
Reputable breeders put a lot of time and effort into planning, whelping and raising a litter. They don't have to sell any of the puppies. So IMO, they should get the privilege of choosing registered names or a theme if they want. After are they are their puppies until they decide if you're a suitable home for one.
A theme or key word in naming a litter with registered names often has some meaning to the breeder. A way of keeping track of who's the sire and dam, or what year or just some sentimental meaning for them. Think about it in those terms and maybe you'll be more agreeable with what the breeder has planned for names.

I agree with you! Hence the question about what most breeders tend to do :) The registered name is just what goes on a piece of paper...if we had a breeder who, for whatever reason, even wanted us to keep a certain call name, I'm sure we would respect that. That said, as the puppy's future "parents," I know we have sentimental reasons and reasons of pride for wanting to give our dog a name we think is special. Even if we're raising the puppy, however, we didn't take on the big responsibility of bring it into the world, and as such are grateful to our breeder for giving us their "baby" and want to honor and respect their efforts.

Can Andy be iPooped? Andy and Jemma could start a comedy team! (They'd be messier than Gallagher.)

I might have to skip out on that show... a LITTLE too smelly.
I'll stick to the iBark and iFrap Comedy Hour, thankyouverymuch....

It's been a while since I've posted, but I thought I would tell you all a tale that may put an end to any puppy fever anyone may be experiences.
I broke the cardinal rule of puppy-dome and decided it would do absolutely no harm if I left Maya free run of the house while I ran a 20 minute errand--this is something I will NEVER do again. You can imagine my shock and utter dismay when I came home to the following mess.
In Maya's twenty minutes of blissful freedom, she somehow managed to push open the bathroom door and get a full roll of toilet paper which she then ran with throughout the house, leaving a trail behind her which was concentrated near the bedroom door.
When I entered the house, my eyes followed the trail, and I actually laughed picturing her running through my living room at full speed with the toilet paper streaming behind her like an airplane carrying a banner. Then, I meandered toward the concentrated area of paper, still laughing, when my foot slipped out from under me, and I landed in the biggest pile of poo that small dog has ever created!
Needless to say my laughter ceased as I realized that my wonderful, never to be trusted again pup, had somehow managed to poo in the house and cover it up with wads of paper. At that point, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as I looked up to see that same dog, innocently looking down at me with her tongue hanging down to the floor. Puppy fever--not all it's cracked up to be ;)

Jeni, That is HILARIOUS, but only because it didn't happen to me! She is a smart one, she figured maybe she could cover her accident and you wouldn't notice it!
I had a cat that loved to unroll toilet paper, she would run her little feet on the roll to make a nice pile on the floor and then she would grab an end and run through the house... nothing like having your home toilet papered from the inside....by your cat! Though I was thankful there was no "treasure" at the end of that rainbow , like Maya left for you! LOL!

Too funny!!!!!! That put to rest any ideas I had for letting Link loose while I run to the corner mail box...

Jeni,
That is a funny story and I am curious as to what was Dudley doing this whole time while she was creating mischief. Was he watching or perhaps helping? Maybe trying to get his sister in trouble and put the entire blame on her.

Dudley goes to crate every time we leave, unless we are just outside in the yard. He was safely tucked away in the bedroom with the door closed. He's an anxious dog and will pace if he we leave him alone, and when he can't find us, he eats things--my trim, a door, you get the idea. He very happily runs to his crate as soon as we put shoes on now.

OH JENI!!!! I thought this story was so funny . . . until the end. The mental image of Maya running around with the toilet paper streaming behind her was too funny - it would be a YouTube fave for sure! But the pile of poo . . . not so funny. I hope you didn't ruin any good clothing!
