Has anyone here used this product? Or know if it works?

We don't a tick problem where we live, but we do camp in areas where there are and I saw this product posted on another board and thought it was worth checking out.

For those of us going to Raser State Park to camp, there are deer ticks just a couple of miles up the road at another campground that we have stayed at.

Also a lot of deer poop which then puppy-Dylan had a party rolling in.

I've never heard of a collar that is totally effective in killing ticks. We go with the Revolution - but even it is only good at killing some ticks - the "dog ticks" those carry the Rocky Mountain Spotted fever.

As we travel to the States fairly often, I asked our vet about Lyme disease and most meds that kill ticks on dogs won't kill both kinds.

There is good info on the US FA site on tick meds:

I swear by the Preventic collars. We also have the yard spray.

In combination with the Revolution monthly treatments, I find the ticks will bite, but then fall off (dead) within hours. I'm assuming it is within hours because none of the ticks are engorged with blood.

That said, Otis is positive for Lyme, but has been without any symptoms for at least 5 years.

Last week I ordered this spring's supply of the Preventic collars on Amazon. I bought 6 @ $7.48 ea. Much cheaper than at the vet or other prices.

Prevention is great, but does anyone have a good way to check for ticks? I run my hands all over the dogs, paying close attention to the head, ears, neck, arm pits and the base of the tail.

I've used a flea comb. I once lived adjacent to a state park (with LOTS of deer) and every single time my dog went out he would come in with ticks. That's when I started using Frontline, but I also would do a quick flea comb every time we came inside. Ticks are bigger than fleas, so it'll work and, IMO, better than touching one of the blood suckers.

As a gross aside, my downstairs neighbor lady found a tick embedded in her waist, when she woke up yesterday morning. Her Dr. thinks it was probably on her dog (who sleeps on the bed), fell on her, and embedded itself. YUCK!!
