Had a phone call at 1pm our time- it is not malignant after all- it's a spindle cell tumour of the soft tissue.

We will have to see how we will manage it as it is too big to be cut out- so I shall be seeing the vet- think i shall wait to see the boss next week when he is back in work.

So whatever you did with your corgi vibes, they certainly have wonderful healing powers. Divine intervention or corgi intervention or whatever- Thanks so much.

so by the sound of it, if it is left it could become malignant- but good to read that it rarely spreads to other organs.

Rang the vet this morning and as I'd like to see the main vet too with Cindy I shall take her down on Monday- felt awful saying I wanted him to see her leg as well but two heads are better than one. I am going to the South Wales corgi dog show tomorrow too so will ask if anyone has a vet that specialises in tumour removal. I might have to take her to the soft tissue clinic in England but that will cost a fortune.

Who cares what the vet thinks about you asking to see the other. It's Cindy's life and you have every right to get the best care and treatment for her!

You should have seen her now jumping around in the garden- not for long but a lot, lot more than she has been doing lately.

Laura,

That is the best and most wonderful news ever!!! Timmy and I are doing the happy dance for all of you! +CLAPPING+ Corgi vibes work magic, I knew that!:BIGGRIN"

Having someone that Cindy feels comfortable with and you trust is very important during any type of treatment. I'm sure that the Drs are used to having patients move around.

We saw Mr Italian today- he said he could operate but it would probably need more than one op and the likelihood that it would need several skin grafts afterwards.

He suggested keeping things as they are at the moment- she is walking with a slight limp now and is able to walk for 10-15 minutes at a time. The painkillers are helping a lot.

He said they tend to reoccur and if it was his dog he would not put her through all the possible ops at her age- 11 in September. This concurs with what her breeders told me and as they have bred corgis for over 30 years I trust their judgement. So we'll keep her on painkillers and keep an eye on the tumours in case they become inflamed.

I don't think they bother her as much as they did- she was jumping around now waiting for her food.

Jespah

That's great that you got the second vet's opinion - and that the breeder concurs. Having read that the tumours commonly re-occur, it would seem like an awful lot for her to go through just top have them come back.

What about Benadryl? I know there was discussion about it working on the mast tumours - is there any research showing that if has any effect on these spindle tumours?

Sounds like she is doing pretty well, and we hope that she'll continue to be comfy for a long time. +WUBCLUB+

love2corgis

I think the Benadryl was because the mast cell are formed because of histamine in the body- I'll have to do more research!!!

Jespah
03-29-2010, 11:53 AM
Laura - from what I'm reading, spindle cell is kind of a layman's term. Did the vet give you the fancy Latin version of it?

That is wonderful news Laura, and great that you had a second opinion.

love2corgis
03-29-2010, 12:20 PM
No- his English is bad enough so his Latin would be a strain- mind you being Italian he should find it easier to use.
