I've just recently found out that Bonnie's Chipmonks have a somewhat older (2 years old) brother not too far from me. His name is Bubba and he's a red headed tri with a sweet disposition, is on heart meds prevention and is current with his shots. He likes to lounge around and sit in your lap( my kind of Corgi)...all 32 or so pounds of him.
I was sent these photos and was able to retrieve them at work (no, my coomputer's not fixed yet) and thought I'd post theml for ya'll to see and perhaps get somes opoionions of him. I was told he is AKC registered and all the papers were available and that he, Chip and Dale have the same parents. He has no health problems or issues such as food/dog/human aggression. Bubba's not neutered yet but his owner told me she would do that and that would prevent him from hiking his leg to water the furniture and would save him problems down the road.
What do you think?

He is a very handsome guy David! And who could resist a corgi that likes to snuggle? Can you meet him in person?

Looks like a handsome boy to me!
Is he close eonough to go visit and see what he's like?
ColColt

I like snuggling too, Jessica! He's close but not that close. It's about a four hour drive up the road and I'd have to do it on a Friday (when I'm off most tilmes). My sister volunteered to go along and help drive since she knows I start looking for a motel after about 100 miles. I'd love to see him and wish he was a bit closer but, sometimes you can't have it all. He is looking for a home and being two years old I expect he's out of the puppy chewing stage and all that goes along with being that young sinces he's "technically" a teenager now.

Does that mean that Bubba waters the furniture now?
He sounds like a large corgi? Is he overweight?
Bubba looks handsome.
Where does the name come from, I wonder? Around our way there is a NH town, Seabrook. The natives call each other" Bubba."
Other than the "watering the furniture" thing goes, I think he would be a perfect dog for you David.

He certainly is a nice looking boy. I see another corgi in the background, is he still with his breeder?
ColColt
05-31-2007, 10:06 AM
As far as I know, Jane, he doesn't keep the chairs watered but, I'm sure they are all prone to do that. He doesn't look overweight to me and I think his weight was just a guess. Not sure where Bubba came from...maybe from Forrest Gump!! What a movie!! Being kind of layed back, the name fits. If I can go see him and after his neutering and he "takes" to me, maybe I'll have to have him a special pair of overhauls made with his name on it. At least his color matches Trixie's so I won't have to get rid of her since the colors would clash otherwise.
That other Corgi, Barbara, is another one she told me about but she said he wasn't as affectionate as Bubba. Both are still with their breeder and Bubba needs a home since he has no interest in breeding, which I think was his primary purpose from what I understood.

I agree! And what a great sister you have willing to take you there and meet him if you want. Our neighbors Golden across the street is named Bubba. If you go be prepared to come home with a 4 legged fur baby; He will probably steal your heart.

Me, too, MrsGrace. Sometimes it's difficult to know what feels right when you want to help a Corgi out and at the same time, seek a forever companion yourself. Things have a way of working themselves out, though.

Forty years I wanted a corgi but didn't have the right situation until a few years ago after my brother's dog died. I had a nice female corgi offered to me because the owners had just had a child. They were commited to keep the dog for life but would like to have had some one give her a better home, more attention. I went to see her and didn't "click". It must have been that she loved her owners and didn't show any interest in me.
So I finally did a little searching for a breeder with the intention of buying a pup. The rest is history, I found Duchess, a seven year old spayed female.
I am so glad that I didn't get a pup.
David if you don't love Bubba, don't be afraid to walk away. He will find a good home and you will eventually find your pet. Good luck and my vote is for Bubba. Jane
Sorry, but I don't know who Trixie is?

I suppose it's difficult to access how either of you will respond to each other without at least meeting. Pictures don't always tell the whole story and that wouldn't be fair to either of us. I just want one with all the attributes we all desire...good personality, no issues that are not easily fixed, healthy, doesn't mind their mouth or feet being touched, responds to and knows commands (is this too much?)... that sort of thing. I know all dogs will not follow those desires and I think we're all prepared to deal with a somewhat less that ideal companion. That's a pipe dream I just mentioned as I know you can't have it all...this ain't McDonalds but, we live in hopes. I was just dreaming for a moment.
It's hard to say how Bubba would respond being with other Corgis and his breeder for two years. Then again, Chip, upon meeting for the first time, ran right up to me and started giving me mucho Corgi kisses at the picnic and if he had been available, we would have went home together. I suppose you never know until you meet it things will click or not. Sort of like a blind date??:CUTE:
BTW-Trixie is my red headed tri I got at the TN Picnic a couple of weeks back. Her and Bubba are a good match. Check out the last several pages on the TN Corgi Picnic to see her. I can't post a pic of her here at work as I don't have one and if I close this window out to find where she's at, I'll lose this post. She's a cutie pie!!

David,
My last Corgi, Betsy was estimated to be 2 years old when I got her from the Humane Society; I had no background on her and I adopted her when my kids were only 2 1/2 and 4 1/2. She turned out to be the most wonderful, calm dog I had ever owned.(loved to be a couch potato and close by me) And I have grown up with dogs all my life. She had a calm dispostion when I met her and I took a chance with her. - I could never have trained a dog as well as she was. She was always well behaved and everyone that met her loved her because she was always so gentle.
I wish you lots of luck in finding your new companion.
ColColt

She's the stuffed one, Linda, and many thanks for your good wishes(and everyone else). I'm sure Bubba would be a fine boy from what I've been told and from his photos. I was seeking comments from you guys as you are all more experienced in this sort of thing than me and have better insight.

I think he looks quite handsome and well worth a visit. 2 Years is a nice age - he will be old enough to leave for the day when you go to work, should have most of his basic obedience and is old enough to have a personality that is established. I think he is well worth the drive.
You will know if he's for you - what was your gut feeling when you heard about him and then saw his photos?

That is what I told him Deb to just follow his heart and he would know. He is supposed to be well behaved and not mind the 10 hour day by himself Unless Rup starts calling him on the phone then you never know what shenanigans they can think up long distance anyway. :BIGGRIN" You may have another Chip sighting in Canada only this one may be a tri:SMILE:

It was good, Deb. She told me a lot about him and it all sounded good. Wish I could see him this weekend but I have one of those wonderful stress tests tomorrow that will cut into most of the day. I guess I'm more curious as to how he takes to me than vice versa. I wish there had been a closeup or two but, I'm glad she sent what she did as I know she's got her hands full with all the dogs she has.
If all goes well, I think I could leave im in the kitchen since one entrance has a pocket door and the other side that leads into the dining room could have a baby gate put up. That would leave him the entire kitchen area with his crate in there. That would be better than a 4x8 x-pen. I'd just have to make sure all doors were locked well to the cupboards below the sink and that the garbage can was left on the deck or another inaccessable place.
He may be a distant relative of Rupert, who knows and for sure he's kin to the Chipmonks. Just think, Bonnie...we could be Corgi-in-laws!!

ETA: The kitchen plan sounds good to me - that's what I do with Jackie when we are not home! You could even get 2 gates, and not close the pocket door, if you have any concerns about him scratching it (the door). It would also enhance air circulation.

Yep, Jessica, I'd sure like to see him this weekend but with this crud I still have I wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone. Hope they can get to the bottom of this as it's been going on nearly a month. Even if he did scratch the door, it slides out of sight anyway! (ain't that a man for you?)
There could be a family reunion next time, Bonnie as I can see a resemblance.
Well, I'll be going soon here and wish you all a great weekend. I hope to get my computer back by tomorrow or Saturday-time will tell. If I do, you'll be hearing from me this weekend. If not, I'll holler real loud!!

Oh David, that second picture of Bubba looking right at the camera just makes me melt. I know what you mean about photos don't tell it all and we do have to wait and see in person at times. Course it would be funny if the other corgi plops in your lap right away, we don't know. You are different from the breeder and it will be fun to see how the dogs respond to you. Hmm, what will you do if both cuddle up???
Two years old is perfect. Youth and vigor, but puppy teeth gone. I vote for the gate at the pocket door. Why, because never underestimate the smartness of a corgi to Open that door!! Ours could open a bi-fold door.
I hope you get well and the travel plans work out.

I would not expect that to be a problem. I've bought dogs from a breeder who were various ages, up to four years old. These dogs did fine and did not have a problem adjusting to my house or bonding to us.

Bubba has a sweet face and his coloring is very very nice. :CUTE: Doesn't look overweight to me - but that would be easy to fix. Chip and Dale are both sweet boys so it stands to reason if they have the same parents as Bubba their dispositions may be similar.
I agree with the others - Bubba is defiantly worth a trip to visit in person. He looks a lot like Trixey too... long lost sister???
By the way - every sense my Son and DIL have been talking babies we have been calling the babe-to-be Bubba  They were living in Georgia so it seemed a natural nicname. When they were thinking of moving to Idaho we were worried we'd need to change his name to Tater...

Sorry I've not been able to respond much here about Bubba but, you all know the computer problems I've had for nearly two weeks. Finally got it fixed (knock on wood). My sister is chomping at the bits to go see him and said she would drive if I got tired out. I'm not a long distance driver and will look for a motel after about 150 miles( well, almost).
I wanted to wait until I get to feeling better as they're still running tests on me to determine the problem. I don't want to let another get away like I did with Soldier. I didn't know he was even adopted yet until I called from Gatlinburg last Friday and they told me he had been adopted that Wednesday. I thought I'd have time but, he went quickly. I had emailed the shelter about him but didn't get a response back until late last Thursday a week ago after I had left work. Not having the computer running at home, I couldn't get any email messages and that's why I called the next day-too late.
The breeder is extremely nice and I think she would hold him for me to see soon. I have more test next Friday but hopefully when they finally figure out what's causing the lethargic condition, maybe I can go up sometime this month. Keep your fingers crossed as Bubba needs a home and I need a Bubba!!

I'm beginning to wonder if they know as much as doctors did 30 years ago, Emilie. They can't seem to find your problem these days. Maybe they'll just have to shoot me!!
I'll get to see Bubba but, I don't want to carry anything with me that could be given to him or the others. What I'd like to see is Gus's nose look like it use to and that's been on my mind more than this crud I have today. I know he couldn't be in better hands and that he'll rise above this and be as new again. We all, animal or human, have infirmities that we just have to battle and do our best with them. Man, this feels good having my computer back again!! I went out earlier and got a brand new router and got it up and now I'm back where I was before all this gremlin onslaught occurred. I didn't much feel like going out but, I did feel a bit better (temporarily) when I saw that 20" imac today at CompUSA...caused me to lust in my heart!!:CUTE:
I've taken vitamins, too, Merrie but, they don't seem to have stopped whatever this stuff is. On top of all that, I picked up a cold day before yesterday and now feel worse.+SAD+ I'll be popping some mega doses of B-Complex today and see if that helps. I get my vitamins from one of those mail order places that have excellent quality and prices...sometimes 3 for the price of 1.
If Bubba was about 100 miles or so closer I would have already driven to see him as I'm anxious to see him up close and in person. When I go perhaps I'll take some homemade treats in dog biscuit shape to lure him into the car. Smelly treats like liver usually work well, I'm told and I saw some good recipes in "Everything Corgi" I'd like to try. I'll have to get a dog bone cookie cutter somewhere as I don't think that's in my collection of kitchenware.

Believe me,m Heather, I want to very badly. I'm about to try a remedy a guy that worked in one of the health food stores here recommended some years back when I had something like this. He said to get a bulb of garlic and pluck off one of the bigger cloves and chew it. I did that and it like to have set my mouth on far(Southern for fire):CUTE: I could have strangled him for that recommendation-and, he was serious! I took him at his word and when I breathed, I could have torched the hair off a brass statue!! I like garlic but....wheeeew!!
I do want to meet Bubba and the breeder but, not until I can shed this stuff I have. I'd feel terrible giving anyone what I have. Most likely it's not catching but, I don't want to take the chance. I think she will wait as Bubba hopefully, isn't going anywhere soon. She said he needed neutering and would be willing to keep him during that ordeal, so; that could buy me some time.

I am an early riser too. Generally up by 6:15 at the latest. You are right, I am very thankful Dale is feeling better. I am still giving him his pain pills because it doesn't make him sleepy and I just don't want him to start hurting. He only has 2 more days supply left so I will probably just keep giving them to him. I don't think it will hurt him but may help him to heal a little faster. I sympathize with anyone who has had a tooth pulled or dental work done. I also am hoping that Bubba and Colcolt are a good match. I am told that he is a really sweet dog. She found the boys grandma in a giveaway column and took her home too and she said that these two hang out alot and help her in the garden and play freely in the yard while supervised. She owns a large amount of land and it is set way off from the road so no danger for them to get hurt. Grandma's puppy days are over so she gets to live the good life. I would love to meet Grandma. The bad part is I would probably want to take her home and two corgi boys is a plenty to keep me busy along with my others.

Ya'll sure do get up early for it to be a Saturday morning! I get up four days a week at 4:30am but by Friday(my usual day off) I have no problem sleeping till 9:00am or so. Still not feeling very spiffy, I slept till nearly 10:00 this morning! I guess that must be a gift...perhaps even a blessing at this point.
That's good news about Dale, Bonnie. Not about him jumping on your head this morning but about his level of energy after his surgeries. Youth is a marvelous time and I knew he'd spring out of his ordeal pretty well.
I think I mentioned that the lady that has Bubba also has his Mom, Dad and Granny with her, which I think is marvelous. You can't help but wonder if somehow they know that they're family.
I'll be getting in touch with Bubba's breeder again today and let her know I'm still interested as it's been several days since I've talked with her, just so she'll know. No, Jane-I wish I did but thanks so much for asking. I'm beginning to get a bit concerned as this hasn't gotten any better and it's been a month with no one being able to find out the problem. Those bills sure make it in time to your house, however. If they could find the solution as quickly as they send out your bill, I would have been much better weeks ago. It's getting frustrating and tomorrow morning I go back to the doctor once again. They called the other day and told me the stress test looked good and that's fine and well but, I need to find what the root cause of all this is. After three different antibiotics, I should be impervious to anything but would you believe I picked up a cold several days back?:REALLYMAD:
That's the primary reason I haven't went anywhere. I struggle through the ten hour days I work and by 7:00pm, I'm ready for bed. But, I fight it all and keep going. Vitamins don't seem to work either. I sort of fgeel like I did after I had pneumonia about six years back...just pooped out all the time. Well, enough complaining.
The lady that has Bubba wrote me a sweet email yesterday that basically said that "Bubba wanted to know if you were feeling any better and can't wait to meet you. He sends you his love". Wasn't that sweet of her?:CUTE:

Keep sending those healing vibes and well wishes my way as they are greatly appreciated. I got some good news and some bad news from the doc today. They did a chest x-ray and found I didn't have pneumonia but, I did have some emphysema. Well, I knew about that five or six years ago. My oxygen level was low (91) so, I asked if that was normal or not and she told me 89 would qualify me for oxygen...not a good report. They gave me oxygen for about five minutes or so and it went up to about 95 (96-98 is normal) but I got a little shaky afterwards. I guess I don't really understand how a low oxygen level could make you feel like you have little energy and endurance.
Also, my blood pressure was low-100 over 60, which is low for me. I was set up to see a pulmonary doctor in a week or two. All in all, I think the addition of this head/chest cold has made things a bit worse but, you can't do much about that as it just has to wear off.
So, my news of the day...hope ya'll's are much better.

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear that David.
I'm no doctor, but your cells need oxygen to function properly, convert food into energy, etc.. So if they are not getting enough oxygen, they can't make as much energy, as efficiently, for you. That's the correlation.

You know, I felt pretty descent up until about a month ago when this hit. I thought it was some virus as that's exactly what the symptoms were. I still can't believe it's solely pulmonary related as I said, I had that "touch" of emphysema some years ago and still had more energy than now.
Well, I'm tough and this stuff "ain't a gonna get me down!!":NAH:

David, do you think you may have been bitten by a lyme tick? Sometimes the bite is not noticable and can take a while for the symptoms to occur. I had such a bad bite I had two test for lyme. One test right after the bite and one six months after as a double check. My doctor put me on an antibiotic right away until the first test results came in.

Yep, Emilie, I'll bet he is too. I thought about writing him tonight to see how he was doing and let him know I'd been thinking of him.
Strange you mentioned that, Jane. I was thinking the same thing a few days back and got to looking myself over and didn't see a thing. I don't get out in bushes or underbrush so I sort of abandoned that idea. I'm afraid it's something a little more long term than a tick, however. It seems to be a pulmonary thing from what I was told today with such a low oxygen level and she scared me when she said an 89 was cause for being eligible for oxygen.
I was given a "Spiriva HandiHaler" which is a small device you open, insert a capsule and crush it and then inhale the powder to help. Maybe that will help until I see the pulmonary doc next month. I have to get better if I plan on taking care of one of our furry friends.

A friend of mine had to be put on oxygen for a while and then was hospitalized with an uncommon form of Menengitis. The fact that her problem wasn't found immediately added to her almost dying. An infectious disease doctor was needed. She had to take antibiotics for months.
That may not be your problem but waiting a month to see a pulmonary doctor doesn't seem like a good idea. Try to get to this doctor sooner.

Thanks MGM-I know that came from the heart and is greatly appreciated.
Menengitis is a terrible disease, Jane. I remember when I was stationed at Ft. Gordon, GA they actually quarantined the entire base at Ft. Benning, which was just up the road a ways, because of Menengitis problems there. I've been run through so many tests though, I can't imagine that being overlooked although anything is possible. they tested everything imaginable I think. I agree that a month...actually about six weeks is too long to wait and I've thought about it as well and will probably call Monday to see if we can reschedule. These specialists can't have that many people to see that it would warrant waiting that long.

**UPDATE**
In all likelyhood I will be picking Bubba up sometime next month. He is being altered next Tuesday morning and will stay with his breeder awhile to recuperate. That will give him some time and me too trying to finish getting over my puny feeling which with the aid of an inhaler, has helped immensely. I had bronchitis and not getting enough oxygen was wearing me out.
I have ordered him a CrateWear crate with bumper pads, a couple of metal gates for the kitchen from Drs. Forest and Smith, he has toys and treats, two kinds of Kongs, I'm fencing in the back yard for his safety and play area, getting food/water bowls this weekend along with a 6.5 pound bag of Innova to get him use to that and have already talked with the vet about him who will do a head to tail checkup when he gets here...guess I'm on my way!
I was going to wait until I retire and possibly move to NC but, that's a ways off yet and no houses are opening in the area where my sister lives. So, after being alone for six years and the fact that it would be next April/May before I retired anyway IF I moved to NC, I decided we needed each other now. He would have been looking for a home and I just happen to have one open!!
I guess I need to throw in a few more items like baby wipes and cabinet locks for the kitchen since he'll be staying in there while I'm at work. My one concern is should I get hiim pee pads or not for the kitchen while I'm gone. I'll leave at 5:15 am and not get home till about 4:30 pm. That's a long time to ask him not to pee in the kitchen, hence the thought of pee pads. However, when I'm home on the weekend, he won't be confined to the kitchen but if he gets use to going in there, I may have a problem getting him to go outside. Any suggestions on this?

I have Mojo crate-trained with a litter box, and puppy pad trained. It makes it so much easirer when we are out, or traveling, I just put one down and give her the command to go, and she goes. Miss Gambler makes herself miserable and will hold it for many hours. I have two little girls who are just too good to go outdoors. So prissy they are. Mojo is tiny, so the puppy pads have always worked and been easy for her to use. They do make the oversized ones, but I've only found those at Wal-Mart, and they are really big, better for a large puppy, or a med size dog like a Corgi. The only thing that I would be concerned about is if they would tear at it, there is a lot of plastic there, and that could be very dangerous. If you are around and are able to watch them for the first few times, you should be able to tell if you can relax and leave him with the pads. (But being a male dog, and having to lift the leg, I don't even know if the pads would work, but it's always smart to try everything till you find what works.) I am thrilled that you are getting Bubba, and can't wait for all the news.

It sounds like you have made the commitment! Lucky, lucky Bubba! He indeed is one very lucky Corgi boy.
My two are left alone 3 days a week from 7:30-5:30, not quite as long as your day. And they have maybe once pottied in their dining room area.
On days I know I will be late, I put down a piddle pad but they never have used it.
Keep his area small for awhile.

I'll forego the pee pads until I can talk with her and see about those suggesitons. I sure couldn't go that long myself and couldn't expect him to!
The doggie doy crossed my mind, Kristi, but unfortunately, where one could be there is a receptacle and cables runing from it parallel to another receptable with all the wires in the way...too unsafe. That would have been a good spot as it would go right out onto the deck. Felling a bit better, thanks but-not 100% as yet.
Hope you're doing good today, Aunt Bonnie, and that the Chipmonks are hootin' and hollerin' and having a good time.:CUTE:
The kitchen isn't humongus, Susan so, I believe it will be a good area for him. I didn't want to keep him in the hall bathroom so the kitchen just seemed to be the next best logical place. I had thought of the dining room but, it's carpeted.

David! I am so excited for you! I have tears in my eyes... so happy for both of you - I think as much as Bubba needs you , you need Bubba, and you boys will be so happy together...
I was going to meet Gus before i got him, and was going to decide IF we were going to take him, and by the time we got to planning to go meet him we had already decided that no matter what we were taking him home and we would work with him if anything cropped up ( like dillon and gus fighting or anything like that) and thankfully it was a very easy transition! We loved him instantly!
I am so happy for you and I think Bubba looks like such a sweet boy... there is something special in his eyes! The fenced in yard is something we cant wait to get, our house is located in a special development that doesnt allow fences to be put up ...but where we are building our new house, we will be able to fence in the whole back yard and give the boys plenty of running room, which we are tickled about. I think you have a good handle on all the things you need..
I would also agree with asking the breeder what his current pottying schedule is ... he may already be holding it a long time during the day ,where an additional hour or two wont be too big of a deal. when i am not home , my boys just sleep and wait for me to come home. whether i am out for 1 hour or 6 hours... I cant do any longer than that becuase of Gus's condition as he is on strong steriods that make him have to pee a lot and often... but a normal healthy adult corgi boy should be able to hold it for a normal work day.. just out of curiousity, do you work close to where you live? could you go home a few days a week at lunch time to let him out and just check on him? if not many people have dogs that stay home all day while they work... so he should be just fine.
congrats again! and very glad you are starting to feel better... wishing you continued healing.

Unfortunately, Emilie, the trip home and back would be 22 miles and we only get 30 minutes for lunch. Things have a way about working thelmselves out, however, and I'm sure if Jemma, Rupert and some others that have Moms and Dads that work and have to keep theirs in a similar situation as me have made it alright, we can too.

You guys are absolutely precious and thank you dearly for your wonderful enthusiasm and comments that I know are from the heart. I came home today and one of the gates I ordered was here so I've spent the past 45 minutes putting that thing together and getting it mounted. It will keep him from the kitchen into the dining room. I'll probably get another as I like this one that I'll put on the other side where the pocket door is. Not sure I want to use that after all since I think it was Jessica that mentioned another gate would provide more circulation and that makes sense. Also, the new crate should be her either tomorrow or Monday.
The guy that was going to do the estimate just left awhile ago and I told him if he could get his company (family owned) to come down $150-200, they could start tomorrow with the fence. I feel they can if they want the business. That way, by Monday I'd have the yard fenced in as well and could let Bubba run till his heart contents. I need to get a soccer ball so we'll have something to play with out there along with some tennis balls. Maybe we both can shed a few pounds and I'd get a little exercise that may help me feel better as well. Sitting at a desk all day isn't lucrative to a 34 inch waist!!
All in all, I feel good about this but there will be some getting use to not dragging around in the morning like I usually do since I'll need to take him out briefly for a pee break before I continue getting ready. David,
The tag machine is usually by the front door. Let the cashier know you want to get a tag for your dog as you pay for it there and get tokens to use on the machine. There are different tags/sizes and in our area we even have one for U of MS tags! So there are several options, usually 6. We always put the dogs name and our phone number on it. It is your choice whether you use 1, 2 or 3 lines. Have fun!

It's an Agri Feed place for pets. they had quite a few brands of dog food including Innova, California Natual, (Science Diet of course), Natural Balance and others. They had probably about one fourth of what Pet Smart has but it's convenient to stop there on the way home so, I picked up a bag of Innova, two tennis balls, and a few other goodies. I'll check out those tags on the Internet and at PetSmart too.
On to PetSmart!!! Ye Haw!!:SPINNY:
David, if there isn't an immediate tag machine, boomerangtags.com mails within 24 hours.

While at PetSmart today, I did decide to get a couple of tokens after checking out and made bubba a bone shaped tag with his name at the top, phone number next, and then city and state. I went to the boomerangtags website and looked around some, too. What I like about them, they have tags for virtually any type of collar your dog may have-including Martingale.

I did get him a squeeky chicken today though!! Along with a tag I made and a couple other goodies.+SPIN+

If I am correct, the Babble Balls that Jeffers Pets sell are the older "Models", but they are less expensive then the "newer babble balls"
You can change the batteries in the new ones, however, the batteries are almost as much as a new ball; about $7 for the 3 batteries. I have been getting my Babble Balls from Only Natural pets; but Jeffers pets are cheaper; just the older model and would make more sense to go this route. However, it looks like they only offer the 2" and 3" size; if it were me, I would get the 3" for Bubba. I get the 2 3/4" one from Only Natural pets.

Shouldn't make a difference. He should be fine. Neutering isn't a real invasive surgery. As long as there aren't any retained testicles. Then it's a different story.

I was always under the impression that younger dogs just heal up faster... but you know , Gus healed as fast as Dillon did. Many breeders keep intact males and then have them neutered later in life when their breeding days are over... Bubba will be fine though, he is still a young man and will bounce back quickly .

Cody had a "retained" testicle - Cryptorchidism
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_canine_neuter.html
WHAT IF A DOG HAS AN UNDESCENDED TESTICLE?
Undescended testicles have an increased tendency to grow tumors over descended testicles. They may also twist on their stalks and cause life-threatening inflammation. For these reasons, neutering is recommended for dogs with undescended testicles. This procedure is more complicated than a routine neuter; the missing testicle can be under the skin along the path it should have descended to the scrotum or it may be inside the abdomen. Some exploration may be needed to find it thus there is often an incision for each testicle. The retained testicle is sterile and under-developed. If there is one descended testicle, this one will be fertile but since retaining a testicle is a hereditary trait, it is important that the male dog not be bred before he is neutered.
Dillydoodle
06-18-2007, 06:45 PM
Dillon was also chryptorchid ( undescended testicle)... Gus was not and had the standard neuter procedure.
My understanding is that those pups that are chryptorchid should be neutered by the usual 6 month time as they are prone to testicular cancers if they remain intact with an undescended testicle... is that correct? so i would assume Bubba would have been neutered long ago had he been chryptorchid...

Puppies do heal very fast since they're still in a growth state. However, as you say Bubba is still a young dog, he'll heal fast too.
I've neutered males as old as 10 and they've been fine. The oldest I've spayed a female is 12 and again, she was fine. In fact she recovered much quicker than I had expected her to. And she had some mammory tumors removed at the same time.
People underestimate dogs, they usually do much better with surgeries than people do. (Note the usually!)

Depends on the "breeder". A dog with only one retained testicle (monorchid) is usually fertile and some "breeders" will breed them. Reputable breeders do not. Usually they are placed as pets on neuter contracts.
And yes, they are more likely to get testicular cancer in the undescended testicle if not neutered.

Yes, if you see or can feel them both, the dog is "intact". And it's not a worry. Normal neutering.

Peggy, you touched on something I have noticed which is that there seems to be a very high number of chryptorchid pembrokes... do you know why that is?
I've heard it's due to the number of English imports that have been bred in this country. In England it's ok to breed a monorchid (one testicle) dog. So the problem is passed on. Now nearly all lines carry the gene for the disorder.
