from Leo and Kathy:
Sorry for the delays in announcing, but we've been in
the process of getting the deck and patio replaced.
It's been quite the project, let me tell you. It's not
quite done, but better be by the time we have:
Our informal "Corgi Afternoon" (and patio unveiling)
Saturday, May 22nd
All the details here:
http://corgwn.com/2010_woodinville_corgi_afterno.html
We hope to see as many of you as can make it. It's
always a good time!
And while I have your eyeballs, we've also set a date
for the more official (as official as anything gets
that is):
Pacific Northwest Corgi Picnic (the one with the auction)
Saturday, July 31
Reserve the dates!
Leo & Kathy
- Helen (the "old lady")
- Dagmar (OMG! A Tail!)
- Sammy (the "youngster")

And I will be there for both... that's my goal (or was, until Mom asked me to take care of Sam starting the 20th, so I'll be in Washington by the 20th (my plan anyway.)

May 22/23 we will be RVing at the Lynden Fairgrounds, Danny is entering his first AKC Ob trials.
But, I've marked July 31st for the official Corgi Picnic! Looking forward to it as we missed it last year.

It's shaping up to be a good corgi summer... May 22, Corgi Afternoon, June 18, Grayland Beach, July 10, Double Bluff, July 17, camping (if I go), July 31, Corgi Picnic, August 13 (if I go) Corgi Specialty!
If I do a Sunlight Beach walk it would have to be early June, July 24, or Aug 7. June 12-13 has really good low tides (right around noon) but is awfully close to the camping trip.

Bobbie, you must maintain several calendars just for your dogs' appointments!
I'll see you at Leo & Kathy's. They have such a beautiful home and the perfect property for these get-togethers. The first time we pulled up in the driveway, Rick turned to me and said, "Cathy, we don't belong here." :NOTWORTHY:

Wish we could go to Leo's but now that Quiddi has IBD we have to be very careful that he eats ONLY venison and potato. I have had an issue in the past with a person or 2 at those wonderful Woodinville picnics , feeding other people's dogs, just handing out whatever to all comers.:ARG: At that time I was worried about the possibility of a food aggressive dog in the scrum of dogs in front of him, but now I could not take the chance that Quiddi could be given something that could seriously sicken him. I could, of course, keep him on a tight leash the entire time or have him wear a mesh muzzle but that doesn't seem fair to the dog, it's not his fault that SOME people refuse to listen or care about the owner's wishes."NO:":

I know, Beth, I had to put a sign up on Candy two years ago saying, Please do not give this dog chicken jerky! I don't know why people insist on feeding other people's dogs without asking. You might mention that to Leo though I'm not sure if he asked for no dog feeding a few people would not just do it anyway so it wouldn't help with Quiddi. (Candy just gets diarrhea if he has it but it won't really make him sick.) Luckily he can't get up to the biscuit area on his own so he is easy to keep track of, too.
Or what I do is leave Janine home (and sometimes Jack if it is too hot to give him time outs in the car if he gets too wild) as I know she gets nippy with other dogs (and sometime people!) over food (and over attention- she thinks only she deserves anyone's attention and if their own dog gets too close she growls.) So I leave Janine home and bring the dogs that behave better around other dogs. (Somewhat better, anyway.)

Beth - why not have him in one of the x-pens with signs taped to it? I'm sure you'd be fine - you could stake out chairs next to him and someone could always be on guard. +COP+

One week to go! With any luck I won't be just arriving in Washington that morning!

I could put Quiddi in a pen or have him wear a mesh muzzle, but neither sounds like much of a "picnic" for him. Keeping him on leash might work but I feel like the whole idea is for the dogs to have fun. Quiddi loved playing tetherball at Leo's and he always enjoys other dogs and off leash play.
I may make a scarf for him to wear at campouts, I thought of a tee shirt saying "NO SNACKS" but he isn't fond of tee shirts.

I need one for Candy but I can put a sign on his cart. Not only is he a terrible begger but he grabs and nips, and he gets diarrhea if he eats rich stuff.

Well, we had a good time, but my crew spent a lot of their time in time-out! Jack had two three-minute ventures into the group; it took him that long to round up a posse and go after a little tri that was just his type. After the first I gave him an hour to cool off, waited until all the dogs were calmly resting and begging, and let him try again, and it still only took him three minutes.
Candy was good for a bit but then he started snarling at puppies and any dog that got in his way so he got to go cool his heels. He has an excuse, though, I noticed a rubbed spot on his thigh yesterday and by today it is a full-blown sore, so he is now resting in his crate none too graciously.
Merlin slept a lot of the time in the car but he got some lap time with the group and only did a little barking.

Sorry I missed it! One of my neighbors was planning to go - maybe you met her. Leslie, with her little corgi named Trixie.

I think I heard of Trixie but sitting with Merlin on my lap I only talked to a few people.
