From my breeder, "I think the little darling with the prehensile tongue would be a perfect fit for your family. He is very fun-loving and outgoing, but loves to snuggle. He isn't turning out to be a fluff."
Prehensile Defined: Adapted for seizing, grasping, or holding, especially by wrapping around an object, having keen intellect; insightful. Greedy; grasping. That's the guy in the front with his tongue out. Apparently, a big ball of R&W personality! I know this little guy has already a hold on our hearts here... and we are the ones wrapped around his little paws! SOOOoooo... without further ado... our puppy!
Formally dubbed: Colby Jack Sparrow (TONS of nicknames here... Capt'n, Colby Jack, Col, Col-bear (from Daily Show days) etc.)

OHHHH, what a cutie! YAAAY Colby Jack Sparrow! Mac wants to remind you that you both have names that could potentially involve CHEESE (which he hasn't had yet, but he hears it's delicious and looks forward to being spoiled with it upon his arrival home....)
Can't wait for you to really meet everyone here on the forums!

*blush* Thanks guys... the accolades are wonderful, I'm wallowing in them.
Heather, I was thinking... we now have the twins... (in spirit) Big Mac and Colby Jack. :BIGGRIN" +WUBCLUB+ And Colby Jack just SMACKS of Indiana Jones to me, so I'm sure he'll have to have an Indy hat and bandana at some point. PLUS after one of my fav fantasy flicks "Pirates of the Caribbean", Jack Sparrow... *grins* Which means PIRATES!!! Swashbuckling, adventurous guy!
Spoke with the breeder and she is so excited this guy is going to us. She said Colby is outgoing and friendly, has been exposed to and does well around: sheep, goats, cows, calves, donkeys, cats, kids, people and of course, dogs. I can't wait, Ladies!! I'm bouncing in my seat just thinking of his cute widdle frito feet and perfect little R&W markings....
*deep le' sighs*
He's going to be a GREAT dancing partner and agility buff, I can just tell!! *wink*
Thanks again for the warm wishes. How many puppies are we going to have around here at once, it's going to be puppy mania!!! WOOHOO!!! +WUBCLUB+

There is a cute puppy named Mac,
who's going home soon, that's a fact!
He will be in trouble,
And it will be most double,
With his new best friend named Colby Jack!!
His friend named Colby Jack Sparrow,
is adorable down to his marrow!
8 days will go fast,
and we'll have a blast!
Like those crazy monkeys in a barrel!
And then there's Colin to mention,
Who on Mac he will spend his whole pension!
They'll romp and they'll play
All night and all day,
And Heather will put them in detention!!

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! How appropriate, actually...can I show your limerick (at least the first verse) to my kids at school? We're doing a light poetry unit in English for the end of the year, and they're going to be writing limericks next week :)
That put a BIG smile on my face.

I'm SO slow not realizing the first avatar wasn't designated as your puppy. Now that I'm over that shock of change, Colby Jack is a DOLL. You have one week left before cuddles, kisses, etc. Too exciting.

Actually Merrie, I BELIEVE they are one and the same. That first picture was taken many many weeks ago and they have all changed a lot, because when I got the very first pic, she thought he would be at fluff (5 weeks) and then this 2nd one, ears up, black faded, blaze fading, but the similar markings are there if you look at them side by side (same teardrop white nose ring), she said he was turning out to NOT be a fluff sooooo I believe they are one and the same? (Note: I am by NO means a good judge of appearance, so it may have very well been a different puppy, but I thought they were the same?)
I can email the breeder and double check, but either way... they are all so adorable, who could say no to any of them? +WUBCLUB+
Heather, Yes PLEASE feel free to use that poem. It's terrible, and will serve as a good example of what NOT to write.
I tried to use HRH, but it was too wordy... so I had to use Colin's name instead. But you can tell him I tried. ;)

We're in Seattle, WA and the puppy is in the southern most tip of Idaho. What is neat about that is that we get to meet Cheryl & Checkers/Gator, and see Yellowstone Natl', Grand Tetons, then back through Idaho, WA and maybe up to a Whidbey Island beach walk!

I would get the puppy a soft cuddly toy for his welcome home gift. I always feel for them when they are first separated from the litter. My boy was used to being around 10 siblings before I got him. He would snuggle next to the little stuffed bear I got him.
I can't wait to see all the photos you take of him.

PetSmart (and most other stores) sells a great toy that Mac's cousin Dave really like as a little puppy and which we got for Mac....the toy is soft and shaped like a little puppy. It has a removable sack inside filled with buckwheat that can be warmed in the microwave and then placed back in the toy for the puppy to snuggle with. Even at 12 weeks, this was VERY comforting to Dave when he spent his first night alone in his crate....anyone want to weigh in?
Here's a link to the toy: http://www.petstages.com/toyprod.asp?case=101

I was just meaning a stuffed toy, not the kind that can be heated. That one, I understand is for snuggling and keeping a puppy warm, not for playing. You can get them that have a heartbeat sound too.
My understanding is that the ones made to be warmed were made for litters that didn't have momma or singleton puppies, puppies being hand raised.
The ones with the heartbeats are for litters without moms or puppies going to new homes.
A puppy old enough to go to it's new home can regulate it's body temps and doesn't need a warmed toy. Especially this time of year.

Patricia - I wish I had known about the warming puppies right after Dale came home from surgery. He shivered and I had to wrap him in a blanket. A warm, little microwaved puppy would have been just the ticket.

Wrapping him should have helped too though. And if needed a heating pad on low on one part of the bed (so they can move if they get too warm) works too.
I didn't get the sense he needed extra heat, other than a blanket. That's all the vets do after surgery, cover the animals with a towel or blanket.
Too hot is as bad as too cold.

The only good part about hospitalization is the heated warm towel/blanket they laid on me. One time when Pepper just couldn't seem to get warm, I put her blanket in the dryer for a minute and wrapped her up. That did the trick. It was winter when the wood stove was taking its sweet time getting going.

I think my worry is whether I could get the toy back after letting "the gang" play with it! I think the hedgehog is out because it is too "loved" by corgis. I have a terry cloth animal but it has a squeaker. So should I find a stuff animal with no squeaker?
Mrs Grace I can't believe the time is almost here for you to get Colby. Wait a minute, with you going on vacation right away, will we miss out on the details of the event???
Merrie
Getting closer to being two weeks away. We aren't ready puppy proofing wise. But the puppy's presence has a way of insuring that. I do have the valuable floor lamp cord in a vent pipe.

Not all hedgehogs get "killed". While corgis like them they are not necessarily torn to shreds in every household.
Any stuffed toy should be ok. If the puppies are still sleeping together then it shoud be with them then. Send it to the breeder and have her put it in with the puppies. Don't worry if other dogs play with it. It'll have familiar smells on it and that's what counts.
Also, you could send an old t-shirt or something like that that has your smell on it. Your puppy could sleep with that and start to become fimilar with you too.

Those are great ideas Peggy!
Merrie, I spoke with my breeder about if I should send her a toy or something and she said that since she sends her puppies home with their own crates and bedding, they have good transition stuff that way that smells like home. Maybe check with your breeder, see if there's something she already does for them?
And I go on vacation Thursday morning at 4am. *groan* I will be taking the laptop and hopefully able to get to hotspots and check in with pictures. If not, I'll be home a week from this Sunday! You'll just have to hang on to your seats between updates! :BIGGRIN"

I took a little stuffy soccer ball with me for Riley when I went and picked her out of the litter at 6 weeks of age. When I came back to get her at 8 weeks, she had her little ball - she never destroyed it, although she wrecked almost every other stuffy.
My only caution with a stuffy, is to make sure they don't have plastic parts like eyes or noses, or bits that could be chewed off and swallowed.

And I go on vacation Thursday morning at 4am. I'll be home a week from this Sunday! Glad you'll be home before I get my puppy and I can dwell on your puppy instead of my wait. Happy you have this time to build up even more anticipation for Colby.
I did email my breeder and she said she has a ton of stuffed animals and will gladly send one home. I decided not to send our smell because the decision of which dog won't be until a couple days before. I swear the agony of not knowing which dog is as bad as the wait for the dog. Similar to a big Christmas package sitting under the tree for 3 weeks before Christmas rolls around and it is addressed to you and you can't open it early.:ARG:

I forgot my camera this morning so I'm all out of pictures for Mrs Grace to post. I know she wanted to make some of the first posts with pictures anyhow when she gets back home and I'm sure they will have lots of great ones!
We have had a blast together the last two days. Yesterday was a tour of the flight line and a BBQ at our house. The pups all got along great (as did the kids LOL). Today we met them at the campground for breakfast, then a dip in the water. I'll let Mrs Grace tell you guys about the puppy adventures there. After letting the kids and myself pass out for a couple of hours we then headed to the Air Force Museum to look at all the planes. Just said goodby to them a little bit ago as they went back to their campground... and now my step-daughter and I are getting ready to head out for a concert in about an hour (Tim McGraw and Faith Hill! Yay!!). So... we've been very busy but had a ton of fun and Mrs Grace and family and Colby puppy are all just as wonderful as we expected!
