We came home from work Sunday night and Trixie's left eye seemed to have extra gunk in it. I wiped it off with a napkin and it seemed to keep weeping. Both of her eyes have always had more gunk in them that what Murphey has, but this time it was excessive.

I wiped it again just before bedtime with a warm washcloth to help clean it up again. This morning it didn't seem to be as bad, but still not right. Her spirits are up and picking on Murphey as usual so I know it's not hurting her really.

What do any of you suggest I can do to help clear up her eye when I get home from work tonight if it's still yucky? When should I be concerned enough to take her to the vet?

If it is just one eye, it isn't just allergies, so yes, go to the vet. It's easy for a scratch on the eye to become an infection and they can lose the eye.

How is her eye tonight? I hope she is feeling better! If not, i would agree with Bobbie that a vet visit might be in order...

healing vibes for Trixie...

Good advice Bobbie - I never thought about it that way. Hope Trixie is doing better now.

Thanks for the advice Bobbie.

Well, I won't know until I get home from work and that won't be until about 8:30 tonight. +SAD+ My husband just mowed the grass the other day and last night when we got home she ran through the yard with all the clippings in it. I was wondering if she hadn't gotten a clipping tossed into her eye and was irritating it.

If it isn't better within this next day or two, I will get her to the vet. Unfortunately my schedule is such that I can't get her there until Thursday since I don't get home from work until so late.

Worth a trip to the vet. They will need to check the eye to make sure there isn't a scratch on the cornea. Cooper had goopy eye late fall/early winter. His was due to "construction dust" irritating his eye. He had a steriod vaseline-like eye med that I put in for 10 days... with a stern warning not to repeat the med w/o checking with the vet first to make sure there was no scratch.

Tucker has had the goopy eye problems since he was a pup. I can't remember how much I spent on Vet bills.

Watch the color and thickness. If it is really thick and has a color, it's probably an infection.

They looked for scratches, they tested tear ducts (do they drain properly). All fine, never a scratch. But he gets irritation from dust and dirt blowing in his eyes and from pollen. And he does get one eye worse than the other.

He will look up at me and squint and I know his eyes are bothering him.

The Vet also speculated about a food allergy. So I decided on my own to pull chicken from the diet, the infections and goop decreased.

Still if he's playing in dry, dusty, blowing dirt or if there is significant pollen in the air (like the last few weeks...) he gets goopy eye.

Every year at his checkup I ask the Vet for a prescription for non steroidal antibiotic to have on hand.

Annie got conjunctivitis in one eye a couple of years ago, so, now I am alert to any kind of drainage. Always worth a phone call or a trip to the vet. Hope that Miss Trixie's eye is better!!

Last night when we got home the eye looked much better. This morning before coming to work, I looked at it again and it looks like her other eye now, so I think she mat have had an irritant in it from the grass. I will continue to keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn't get bad again. Thanks for all the suggestions and thoughts.

Must be the good corgi vibes we get here. :BIGGRIN"
