Well, Bella and I went to our first Excellent only day at an AKC trial. Usually with AKC, at least in our area, they have Excellent only runs on Fridays and then all classes on Sat and Sun. I was so excited to be there with the 'big dogs'. She had a really beautiful Standard run, but we had a table fault - which we have not had since we were in Novice! It was Teeter to Table with not much space in between and I didn't decelerate enough so she was going too fast and slipped off the other side of the table. Otherwise a really lovely run.

Her jumpers was another story. She took an off course tunnel and then when she realized she was wrong she resorted to her default behavior of avoidance sniffing. It took me about 10 seconds to get her nose up off the ground and back on course. (It seemed like half an hour!).

Tomorrow is another day!

On a positive note, Rudy was cute and charming all day in his support of Team Bella. He did not even glance a stink eye in another dog's direction. I've been taking him to trials with me in preparation for him trialing. I want him to get used to spending some time in his crate or ex-pen and having other dogs going by and maybe venturing into his personal space. His reactivity seems better when there are lots of dogs around.

They are both passed out tired now! I will probably join them soon.

Been there, done that.. Janine does the sniffing if the same tunnel is twice on the course as she is sure I'm making her do it over.

I did that with Jack, too, and it surprised me how tired he got just being there at the trials in his crate.

Better luck tomorrow!

Bella's second day at the trial went better. In her jumpers run she took an off-course jump (handler error), but otherwise nice. In her standard run she went into the wrong end of a curved tunnel, my command could have been slightly late but she seemed to pretty much blow me off when I watched it again on the video. So we had already NQ'd and I was determined to not get a table fault again that I decellerated too much, and right when she got to the table she stopped and looked at me before jumping onto it. So we were called for a refusal. :ARG:

Oh well, she was happy and not stressed. The weather was beautiful and we set up a canopy outside with the ex-pen instead of crating indoors. Rudy was a good boy again and surprisingly exhausted when we got home. I didn't enter Bella for today, decided to do Fri and Sat only.

Next trial - 3 weeks!

Glad you enjoyed the day. They do like to drive us nuts... don't they!

When Lu went to trials before she was competing she got pretty tired just watching all the people and dogs come and go. Good experience for Rudy and he got to be with you for 2 days.

Good luck with the next trial - because we know there will be a next trial!!!!

Sounds like some very nice parts of your day. Happy tired dogs in the sun, a very good thing IMO.

Good luck for the next trial!
