Posting a link to a site I found useful. It was a beautiful day here and lots of people were outside doing yard work. Took Cody out of a walk and he had lots of distractions. He did very well today despite several dogs that wandered down toward the end of their driveways; Cody ignored them and did not bark or pull.

I had to do the "stand like a tree" a few times, but overall, he was really good.

Today on our morning walk Cody decided to be stubborn, three seperate times by stopping and rolling on his back; once while crossing a busy street. He had that tongue hanging out with that goofy grin and looked like he was saying "okay lady, now get me to move"

Of course I had to be in charge, but I could not help to laugh to myself to see that white belly and a neighbor laughing as she drove by.

What is up with him - he hasn't done this since we first got him. Two steps forward and one step back. I thought he was nearing the end of his teenage years, or is he a late bloomer and it is all just beginning:EEK:

Sounds like Cody is just happy to be outsde and enjoying the weather.

That's a great link Linda, really good info. thanks for sharing it.

When "the tree" method didn't work with Dylan I did the much dreaded 'leash wrap' method. Only had to do that twice, he does not pull at all now.

You can see by his face in this demo pic, he is not impressed.:NAH:

I tried that "wrap" a couple of times on Cody last fall, and he rolled over on his back and would not budge.

And that is why there are so many different training techniques, because there are so many corgi methods to avoid them!:TWITCHY:

The "on your back method" seems to be a favorite of his; Stubborn, but I still love him+WUBCLUB+

I think that's his way of saying:
"You can't be mad at me . . . . I'm so cute! Now come here & rub my belly!"

We also learned the leash wrap method in class for stopping Dillon from pulling, and it worked pretty well, when we would have the leash that way but if we ever try to walk normally he starts to pull again. As for the dropping and refusing to budge... bring really good treats with you, make sure he doesnt know you have them.. ( like put them in a ziplock baggie and put them either in a treatbag or a pocket... then when he pulls that stunt... pull out the baggie and try to get him excited about walking again.. or bring treats that you can eat -cheese or something- and if he shows no interest, you start eating the treats and he will come around. The other way is with leash correction and using a tone of voice that he knows you mean business... then if he starts walking praise and treat...

I wear a fannypack when walking(I know corny) since lots of my summer clothes don't have pockets. So his treats are in there; along with my cell phone and house keys. I did use my "tone" to get the little bugger to stand up again and get moving(while chuckling quietly to myself) and did reward him for moving - I guess he was practicing his stunt a second and third time to see if I was really serious:LAUGH:

Thks for sharing the site Linda.
Great stuff - Learnt a lot.
Will try it on Dexter.
Only time he pulls until he turns green is when he just step out in sheer excitement. After a few more steps he will calm down & walk normally beside us.

That's probably the real reason!

Linda, not the best fashion statement but really not corny at all, i use a fanny pack when we hike so i can carry house and car keys, a little money , my cell phone, treats, poop baggies, and my ID ( you know in case they need to identify the body  ) I sometimes will carry a small squeaker tennis ball if i get in a place that i can safely play ball. For daily walks around the neighborhood, i usually just carry the treat bag and stuff my poop bags in it along with my cell phone. the treatbag i use is by outward hound... i have seen in in petco.

I also think that Cody was testing to see if you were serious...he sounds so much like DIllon in the house ...if i ask him to do something, like come here, he thinks ..hmm, is she serious? then i have to use the mean mommy voice and he comes!
