Hello!
What do you think about these "Nylabones"?
We heard terrible stories about them (Most of them deal with a dog, that was a strong chewer, got a "Flexi Chew" for moderate chewers, bit a big piece off, swallowed up and died by suffocation).
On the other site lots of dog parents swear of them as a good Chewing product and lots of dogs love the "Dura Chew" for strong chewers (include our little girl. She tried the "Dura Chew" Bacon Bone, and now she's GaGa for it. I just have to say "Nylabone" and she's sitting next to me with a mad look in her eyes that looks almost like this+TONGUE+ this +HPUMPKIN+ this +GOOFY+and this +JAWDROP+together!)
But children loves Cookies, too and they aren't the healthiest snack.

What are your experiences with this "Nylabones"?

We're grateful for every answer!

I think that you will find horror stories about any dog chew product. Some dogs need to be supervised when chewing Nylabones, rawhides, or other chewing products.

For my 2 Corgis, I swear by Nylabones - they use the medium ones, or the medium U shaped ones and will totally chew down the ends over time. Once they are smaller and too sharp I throw them out.

Both mine will sit and chew a Nylabone to relax, and every morning my female Jemma will chew one for about 10 minutes before breakfast.

I'd get them, but if you are concerned, give them to your dog under supervision until you know if they will be fine with them.

Rudy loves his Nylabones. He chews them everyday and we have never had a problem. I have heard of dogs breaking teeth so you want to monitor them at first and be sure they're just gnawing on them and not trying to bite off pieces. Bella will grab one and chew once in a while, but I think it's only to annoy Rudy! Rudy's favorite is the dinosaur shaped one with the nubbies on it!

For some reason, I just pictured that being his favorite, And if he was a person, and he was in a toy store, that would be the one he picks!

We used to give Gizmo nylabones, but we're doing an allergy screening right now, so none for him! I feel bad, because he has no chewies!

Which types of nylabones do you guys buy? We tried one with Henry and he just looked at it like "you expect me to chew that?"

Cooper likes the white or brown bone shaped ones. As a pup and youngster he was a very aggressive chewer and cracked his tooth which had to be extracted. I think he was trying to eat the nylabone instead of patiently gnawing. Now he only occassionaly pulls out a nylabone and gives it a brief workout.

My first corgi liked the bone shaped ones also and quickly learned that he wasn't going to be able to devour it.

Supervise Henry if he decides to give the nylabone a try. Sometimes it takes more than one introduction for them to realize what it is.

OK, thanks for all these answers.
I was afraid, that these Chewing product would be a fatal choice.
And here's the next problem:
I can't find a single Nylabone-product in german Petshops!
My neighbor (where my "little" darling tried her first Nylabone) got hers from a vacacion in the US and I'm not "Rockefeller", so I couldn't book a flight every time when she needs a new one.+SAD+
So, do one of you know a online shop, that sales Nylabones to Germany, too?
(If it's not allowed to post a shop adress, please send me a mail with it!)
Thank you very much!

Well, silly me - I didn't realize you are in Germany.

Check with our member "Checkercorgi" - she recently moved to Germany with her Corgi and family. She has 2 dogs, and I bet she has sourced out some good suppliers for dog items. :BIGGRIN"

Also, I don't know what the rule is for shipping, but I'm sure a few people, including myself, would be willing to actually just ship some. Does petsmart and places not ship into germany?

I think the one we had was white and bone shaped too...and chicken..scented? something like that lol. He kind of nibbled on it a bit and forgot about it. Maybe I'll have to try again with Luke, he loves literally anything that may resemble food.

I used to be a huge fan of Nylabone - but not the digestible ones.

My dogs like the one that has a green mint flavored rubbery center with two nubby ends to it. I'm doing a terrible description of it so here's the link:

http://www.petmountain.com/product//11442-504833/nylabone-nylabone-double-action-chew.html

But after Tucker broke off the tip of his tooth, I'm rethinking them (I have no idea how he chipped his tooth - not saying a Nyla bone did it).

They would sit for hours and gnaw away on them as puppies.... at least they did when they took a break from gnawing on my dining room table legs.....

I know the pet store I use would send them. They are a small local store. They get special stuff in for me all the time. I get Connor the super tuff nylabones. They are made for smaller dogs but they last quite a while. PM me if you want the website

No problem - I think her German is very limited - but, I'm sure she can read the info here if you don't think she'll understand you. She's a smart gal - I'm sure the 2 of you could communicate effectively. :BIGGRIN"

My dog chews all shapes except the red super hard tire that was, well, too big.
He just started on the one with a knot at both ends that we've had for years and years from our prior dog. He likes the 3rd largest size, wishbone, bone shape, and frisbee, but that isn't for chewing. No soft, knubbie or otherwise for his aggressive chewing. The round rings, are better to use in the dryer for drying down pillows! Yes, bacon is a favorite, but so is chocolate when you can find it, and the super white one (chicken?).

Hmm... I don't speak very good German at all yet, nothing beyond basic greetings. We are an American family that is stationed here with the military (Air Force). I have to go to the store later today anyhow so I can check and see if they have any nylabones while I am there. It's an American store on base though so you still wouldn't be able to get them yourself... but I would be happy to pick some up and send you, or we could meet up depending on how far away you live. We're at Spangdahlem in the Rheinland-Pflatz (appologies in advance if I misspelled that!). I haven't been to any German pet stores as of yet so I have no idea what all they carry so I'm afraid I'm not much help in that regard.

Anyhow... I will reply here again when I find out if the store here has any....

That's no problem.
My english is good enough for let people know what I want.
Too bad! For a meeting you're too far away.+SAD+
Edit:
The biggest chain of pet shops is named "Fressnapf" ("Feedingbowl" in german)

Well no fun about the meeting, but thanks for the heads up on Fressnapf. I am hoping to learn German while I am here, but haven't been studying like I should have been...

The store on base here does have a few nylabones... but not the best selection. They have the original plain ones and a few of the edible ones and that's it. If you want me to pick any of those up though just let me know... or I'm sure one of the other ladies here that are back in the States would be happy to pick some up and mail them on for you.

Good news, folks!
A boy in my english class must got overheared, that I'm searching Nylabones.
He told me, that his uncle in the US is going to give up his Rottweiler kennel and searchs people, that buy his left stuff.
The world is a village, such a coincidence!
He phoned his uncle and told him my problem and his uncle offered me 20 () unused Nylabones in giant size of this type http://www.nylabone.com/product-finder/by-brand/dura-chew-bone-original.htm with bacon flavour (my little girls favorite! Ok, it's the only sort of Nylabone she knows but she LOVES it!) for $2 each!+YAHOO+
Next month I'll get them brought, when they're back from a visit from there!
YAY!

Thanks for the help (especialy to Betsie, which send me a shop adress!+WUBCLUB+)!

Tomorrow I'll drive to the bank by bus, I've got to chance € in $.
And I've got to buy flowers for the uncle and the family of the boy in my English class.
I'm so exited!

How do you mean that?

Meaning, when you mention things to people, or people overhear you, you may be happily surprised by someone being able to help out - that you didn't expect. It as meant in a good way.

Oh, silly me!+DOH+
People aren't often helpful here if you're don't lived here for 20 or more years (But I'm on the best way to this. Not to being unhelpful, to the "20 years borderline").
It's a very incommunicative region, so I don't have here often such helpful people like this boy and his family.
Especially the older natives don't like "stragers" (Everybody that isn't born here or lived here for two decades of his/her life) except the spa guests, which come every autumn.
