It's toxic to cats especially. I belive it can be used in dogs but I'd only do so if told by my vet.

Don't know what it does to a pet Merrie, but it's a pain reliever like Tylenol.

Not like Tylenol, acetaminophne is Tylenol. That's the generic name, what the drug is. Tylenol is a brand name of acetaminophne.

So what is Tylenol doing in dog food? It didn't get there by accident.

This article in the Miami Herald states that 70% of the U.S.'s vitamins now come from China. Further, 35% of the world's supply of acetaminophen is produced there.

http://www.miamiherald.com/103/story/128699.html

Given China's lax manufacturing standards for in the pharmaceutical industry, it's not a huge leap to see how garbage-grade vitamins imported for pet food got contaminated. Other musings were that the acetaminophen was in the cyanuric acid (contaminated contaminants?)
Yet others on itchmo wondered if the glucosamine added to some pet foods was in fact just pain killers. So the pets felt better after consuming it, but that was due to the acetaminophen. Then the dosages got wacked...

Oh, and at least two of the unnamed companies are Hills and Pet Pride:

I snipped much of your post.

Maybe we should be contacting our representatives and telling them that we disagree with allowing China to be the only or main source of vitamins and medications.

Personally I don't think we should be buying anything from China that is to be consumed by us or our pets. But that's my opinion.

It's mine as well. I guess we've become so ignorant we can't make our own clothes, hardware, electronics, or know how to grow our own food and distribute it anymore...makes me ill!! I wonder what China has on us sometimes.+SAD+

Why stop the blaming with China, the products are allowed into our country, and for sale by our own elected officials. And if you think that we get the short end of the stick when it comes to products made in Asian countries, the products that they sell to their own citizens are even worse.

Hard to imagine the products in thiei own country being any worse. I had two woven type belets, one black, one brown and both of them just broke a few days back. I tried one on and as I started to buckle it, the end with the holes broke off (about 4" of it). Tried the other one and it did the same thing.

We use to laugh at products from Japan as we knew they only made junk back in the '50's. We knew it wouldn't last long or work as indicated. What a change over the decades. Now they're one of the most successful and industrialized nations in the world. YOu can't touch them when it comes to electronics. Sadly, I'd give an eye tooth to find something made in Japan today that wasn't farmed out to other countries to assemble.

You're right, MGM-we have the big wigs in Washington and ourselves to blame for this in many ways.

I agree that the blame lies mostly with our Elected Liars for allowing our country to be flooded with all this cheap crap. Then the corporations turn around and blame us, the consumer, when things go awry. "The consumer wants everything at rock-bottom prices! We HAD to buy from/build factories in China to keep prices down!" Yeah, it's our fault! :ARG:

Speaking of contacting representatives, it seems that the bill that Sen. Durbin worked so hard on: S 1274 - the Human and Pet Food Safety Act of 2007 - may be in danger of dying in committee. You may want to click on this link and send a short email (upper right-hand corner) imploring the committe members to NOT let this happen - it's too important to our safety. I did.
