Does anyone else here have problems with collars with their corgis? I don't know if it is their big ruffs or what (Both of the girls have very fluffy ruffs) but collars never seem to work well on them. They ride up on their necks, and Aine in particular, who has a very small head, they slip over her head unless you practically strangle her. I love pretty collars, but they rarely wear the ones they have because they don't look comfortable. I walk them with harnesses for fear they'll slip out!

Nope - I just ensure that they are tightened enough so that they don't slip over their ears. I have had problems in the past not making them tight enough - Jemma mastered backing out of hers. They are still loose enough to spin around when the leash pulls them. I have lots of Jax's Closet collars and others - maybe too many. +EMBARRASED+

I use martingales on both my guys. They sit rather loose around the neck when not in use and tighten up when pulled. I buy mine on etsy usually, you can get them made in just about any color or pattern you want.
This is the seller I've used the most, but there are tons on there: http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheModDog

Trixie can back out of hers if she works at it. They do seem the get pretty loose on them at times, especially Murphey's. Not sure why, but it always seems like his loosens up. Maybe because Trixie is always grabbing him at the scruff. :TWITCHY: Otherwise, they seem to work fine. I have Jax's Closet collars on them now. Murphey had to have the special corgi size for his big neck.

I use Martingales on three of mine..two now since Merlin doesn't wear a collar anymore. jax Closet can do them for you, or at least, did mine. Jack can't wear one as he bites the loose part and ruins it and the chain kind turn his front black, but Candy and Janine wear them, and Merlin did. I have also bought them from Northwind.

Most of mine wear either the limited slip collars or rolled leather ones. The only time I have a problem with a buckle collar is when the dog is too fat. (Mostly that's with the foster dogs that come in. They of course go on diets!)
Maybe try the limited slip or a martingale for your dogs?

We have no problem with Link slipping out with his cardigan neck, but Millie was a regular Houdini. We had a few decorative collars once she got too old to remember to escape them, but in her younger years we had good success with a thin leather collar. It settled into her "ruff" very nicely, and didn't need to be buckled too tight.

ok, how about the demon dawg that has eaten three collars off of herself!!! Yes, three! Four if you include her mothers collar that she chewed off the crate door. Yep, you guessed it "Sassy"! The precocious, tenacious, ferocious, obnoxious Sassina has struck again!:ARG:

Cooper always wears a collar. He loves his Jax's Closet ones
I use the safety click buckle ones. He has escaped a collar, but not very often. I walk him with the vest harness because he loves to pull.
On the beach his long line is attached to his collar. Not had any issues with escaping cause he is always moving foward. :TWITCHY:

Jax can back out of his, but mostly that's my fault since I probably have it too loose. It happens sometime when we're in a crowd. The good thing for me is that he won't run, he just waits for me to put it back on. I do tighten it up some if I'm taking him someplace really crowded
Alot of people I talk to are going to the martingales. I've got a pair of Manchester Terriers that are regulars. If you need them, I'll make them. I haven't quite got the cut lengths down pat yet, but I'll get there. +GOOFY+

Some corgis, such as Merlin, learn the trick of backing out of the collar and it can be hard to keep it tight enough to prevent in some corgis. Luka could do it, too. The others tended to lose theirs by accident. I don't like some martingales as they have a ring on the fixed part, too, and if I accidentally clip the leash there they escape.

I keep a rolled leather collar on Trevor to hang his tags on. I like the rolled collars because they tend to "disappear" into his ruff versus matting it down.
No way I could ever clip a leash to that collar, though, and take him for a walk. He's also got a small head-to-neck ratio and could slip right out of it. For walkies a slip collar is a must.

Ok, I think we got a winner...LUPINE! We use the martingale type here on our puppies while in training, and so after buying three puppy sized martingales (now eaten) I found that Lupine makes a 3/4inch martingales (in cute colors too I might add)...and they are money back guaranteed for life - even if chewed!! woo hoo! So naturally we ordered the crazy daisy pattern for our crazy sassy puppy haha! The best part is that we ordered them through a rescue site for Shiba Inu's so the money spent is a fundraiser too...

Watch out for the dual rings on those...you may want to cut off or tape closed the fixed one so you never accidentally use it. I nearly lost Janine one day when I clipped the wrong one, a stray dog eas by our house, she slipped the collar and took off after it, running across both a busy street and a busy railroad track. And lost without her collar. I found her 1/3 mile from home.

I just wanted to verify that Lupine does in fact stand up to their guarantee of replacing chewed collars! We are now on our third Lupine crazy daizy martingale collar for the evil Sassy!
It is properly sized, and yet she (out of boredom) chews it off of her self by working at it until she gets a tooth under it and then she works it down to the molars and grinds it away.
I gotta stop working out of town! I would take the collar off, but she is in heat right now and needs to go out on a chain so she does not jump the fence and go have a conjugal visit her father! ugg!
Anyway, I thought anyone that was interested in the Lupine story...it does work! lol! Sassy is the ultimate in a test dog.:ER:

Okay, Kerry, we can match your story for sure!
Our little rascal fluffy puppy Andy chewed four harnasses through under his chin (or elsewhere, see below) so when that happened and we came home, he would drag the rest of the harness around his bunny butt. We finally bought a harnass that would be replaced at no charge if chewed through, and sure enough, this was the last one. This all occured as he was winding his way through his first year (read, puppyhood).
Then we got him a small choke collar, thinking it would stop his pulling. Nope, that didn't work so we went to another (timidly, I might add) harness and low and behold (fingers crossed), he hasn't chewed on it anywhere.
By the way, we also suspect Angel of helping to chew through at least one or two of the harnesses, since we don't think even a very acrobatic Andy could have chewed where they were sawed through.
Such teamwork!
We have had no chewing of harnasses in quite a while, so again, we are hopeful that our little puppy brat's antics are now in the past.
Good luck with Ms. Sassy, and keep us posted of any additional harnass chews or other smarty actions.
What a wonderful repertoire of stories we have to tell with our corgwyn! LOL!

My two have the lupine collars too but Annabelle has a harness since I can't seem to get it tight enough to keep it on her. If I'm just walking her around the condo she's fine but in a crowd it's off. But I know they'll be getting a Jax's collar this spring.

interesting topic. daisy has such a huge head that any collar we fit on her has to be tightened otherwise she gets it off and shreds it (on collar number 4 now). We also use the martingale collar and i love them! our latest collar has a buckle so no need to loosen and then tighten it to get it on her, best investment!

I love Lupine collars! When Jinjo was a puppy, he chewed through his harness, he only had a harness because he kept slipping out of collar (before I knew what these no/limited slip caller were). I love the martingale collars, I have one for both my guys, I also have an assortment others I made myself for fun, but the Lupines are a really good all weather wear collar as I've found they repel the dirt and stains better than any other material (I hate it when Enda gets mud on her nice ones I made her, oh well), and they dry quickly when wetted.
Of coarse, Jinjo looking best in black gets "Bling Bonez"

I got "WoofStock" for Enda, I think having the black on black really makes the color pop, but I just love this one overall

Both collars still look new, they like to play grab each others collars, and both go through just about every muddy ditch they can find. I will certainly be buying more from them in the future, and they are also assembled in America!

I love Lupine for that "new look" all the time..of course that may have something to do with the fact that they send me new ones all the time, lol! We are up to four collars now since December. Sassy wears the crazy daisy pattern, cuz, well..she's crazy!:TWITCHY:

$6 shipping on Lupine? For that price I can buy something local. I mean we are talking about a very small item and I like postal vs UPS. Jax's collar for Chester has worked out well. He looks tortured as we slip it over his big ears when we take it off, but then I do too when taking off a turtleneck. He couldn't get a tooth near his collar. Maybe cardigans have smaller neck to head ratio.

Is that off their site? I bought Jinjo's from a local vet, Enda's I had to buy online because the one of that print at the vets was way to big for her, and I wanted to buy a few other things from Amazon, and when you buy $25 or more from them you get free shipping (still have to pay sales tax, but it is a huge discount especially if there are other things you want). Buying local is good though, it made me so happy to buy from that vets.
