Vibes needed for Merlin

Merlin is under the weather. He would not eat this morning. Later I took him for a car ride and a walk on the ADA trail and he perked up and ate a few small milk bones. But now no dinner.

Merlin still isn't eating more than a few nibbles of liverwurst. At least I can get his pills into him. *Tomorrow we will go to the vet if he is still down and see if it is anything there is a magic bullet for, but I am worried this may be it. *If it is, better now than Christmas Day. *So think good vibes and pray good prayers for him. *I won't let him continue not feeling good so if he isn't better or there is no quick fix...

He did go right to sleep when I brought him into the bedroom and sat down *with him,. which as you know is completely out of character... he should be barking up a storm!

As he is no longer walking at all I know his time is short but I had hoped not before we get back to California, especially since he enjoys the car trip so much. So send him your vibes and prayers.

I always worry when a corgi that normally wolfs down his food won't eat. Not good at all. Sending good vibes for him and you!

Ok, some thoughts, will he drink anything? Have you tried warm chicken broth, or even Ensure? I've gotten some dogs over a few days of feeling bad with Ensure. Gave them enough energy to rally.

What about canned food. Even cat food. Cat food is more aromatic and sometimes they'll eat that when they won't eat dog food.

Shoot, at this point I'd try just about anything, raw or cooked chicken. Any thing with nutrition.

Will do. I'm in the same boat with Lady. She'll be 15 on Dec. 26, but it's a day by day thing. So far she's still eating.

I gave him scrambled egg, he wouldn't touch it. He would eat liverwurst but his system cant handle filling up on that. Wouldnt touch kibble with chicken broth this morning. He did drink water in the car but wouldn't drink any at dinner. Urine and stool normal. He may rally in the morning and giving him something nutritious is a great idea if I can get it down him. He does have quite a bit in the way of reserves (i.e., fat) since he doesn't burn it any more. Right now I'm just letting him sleep.

My old Lab Pippin spent two years eating nothing but rice and hamburger but she wasn't sick, just wouldn't eat dog food in her old age (14-16). This is different as he is acting lethargic. Not at all himself, which would have him out here yowling because I didn't feed him enough.

This morning he wont take water or liverwurst but he did sleep and other than anorexia and shallow respiration doesn't seem in distress, just isn't himself. I don't think this is DM, something else is going on. Color seems better this morning. We will try to run up to the vet later today, have to call them when they open.

Whatever Merlin had he must have sent to Lady. She decided not to eat Thurs. night too. I ended up spoon feeding her a little Merrick canned food. Wouldn't drink the ensure the next morning either. We took her with us when we went to Scott's to wrap some things he didn't have time to wrap and put them under his tree.

Fortunately that night she ate a half a can of Merrick food and has been doing so every night since. For how long who knows? (She turned 15 on Dec. 26.)

I hope merlin starts really eating again... do you think the baytril will be a better drug for merlin? has he ever been on clavamoxx before? Gus did better on the clavamox than on baytril ( that seemed to upset his tummy) but when he was on the clavamox initially while trying to get off all the steriods and keep the open wounds from getting infected , we were also giving him half a pepcid since his stomach was so acidy and he was feeling so crappy... that seemed to settle his tummy some.. I would try the ensure or something to get nutrition in him... poor baby... I have been thinking about him and hope that this morning he will decide that he is HUNGRY and will eat...


Hoping Lady feels better too and continues eating her tastey merrick...
