Apparently, I stepped on someones toes by adding the Cool 2B Corgi to dogster. I meant for it to be advertising for our website here, not trying to usurp anyones perogitive of ownership. Anyway, I have contacted dogster to delete the group. And I have deleted any reference to this website.

Thank you Patricia, I appreciate that. I hope you start a new group on Dogtser - perhaps they can just change the name. It's fun to have a little club - and I hope you will still feel free to promote C2bC. We are glad that you are enjoying yourself here enough to let others know about it!

Since the posting of pictures on this website is so sensitive to some of our members, is there a way it can be adjusted to keep the "right click" from working? I personally don't care if anyone copies my pictures from here. When I post a picture to the computer, if it is a good one and people enjoy it, I don't care if it is copied by them. Frankly, I expect it! If you post the picture of one of the members on this website and a family member happens to see it and right clicks on it, they are saving a copy for themselves. If the right click capability is disabled, then we don't have to be concerned about the "copyright" infringement.

I think that anyone posting a photo in a public forum open to the world(and this is one) assumes that their photo can be saved, shared, and used for harmless fun(ie Artos) by others, that's the internet. ALL of us have posted links to photos and sites of other people, so you can't say you can do it to their's and not to yours. Not taking sides here, just my feelings. As for the book ideas, nobody is using any images without permission, as well as cooperation, from the owner.

I am going to agree with MGM. If I decide to post a picture of anything personal, be it Cody or my family, I am accepting the possibility that anyone may copy that picture, save it, or forward it to someone else without my permission. That is a risk you take. If anyone is not comfortable with the possibility of that happening, then it is best not to post pictures. Disabling the right click is a good idea if that is possible here.

Yes, there is a certain understanding that if you've put an image or words somewhere on the internet that people may and will help themselves to it for good and for bad. There are no internet police. It doesn't mean that the words, ideas, or images don't belong to someone. We would just like to ask that our community be respectful of each other's content and images. If you take a moment and ask someone in a PM if you could download their image because you like it, or it is cute - then not only will you have been respectful, you will pay them a great compliment.

I would like to ensure that everyone knows that the wonderful images Artos has created here have been with photos that she asked members to send to her.

Er- nope. I didnt ask.
I assumed that everyone on this forum would be open to having their own dogs' photos put into collage for this forum.

When taking from a Singapore forum- I ask the people (who took the photos) from there if it is ok or give credit.

If I use photos from here- I usually give credit...eg the one on Ada and the Dobe- I forgot to ask Ada's mom- but when I posted it for laughs and 'to perk up your day' at another local dog's forum, I said it was pix of Ada from an international corgi forum.

We had some copyright people speak to us in Singapore about internet issues and at the end of it ( a lot of mumbo jumbo and legal talk which qualifies, disqualifies clauses etc) - all of us seemed to get the idea that
' as long as it is not for commercial purpose' its ok.

If there is any problem- I wont be posting any more collages here.

Coming from a person who has photos literally being held hostage on another site, I should be the one complaining, but I'm not, because nothing has happened here, and nobody is being hurt on this site either. Artos, you have gone out of your way to make us smile using the images of those we love dearly, and nobody has complained about your work, we have only used it as an example, so do not misunderstand what has happened. I treasure your work. Personally, if some members on here have a problem with this, they should put in their signature DO NOT USE OR SAVE MY IMAGES, then nobody has to ask for permission(which is silly anyway because it has no meaning, strangers could come onto this site and take photos for calendars, are they going to ask permission???), and everyone will clearly know that member's feelings and can respect them.

Actually I didnt read this thread until Corgimum sent me a note to look at it since it made mention of me. I replied to her (almost the same as the one I posted) then I realised that it might be something you want to hear from me as well....so I posted a reply (above) for all to see.

I dont know the history or background re this thread and the concern re photos being replicated....(have not been following all the discussions). Looking at whatever has been in this thread- I am still in the dark as to what the unhappiness is about.

On my part- the collages were created for fun , enjoyment and they are meant to be a blessing to all here.
If you dont want it, thats ok too...

It takes me about 8 mins to create a collage.
I do it between my work as part of a break for my mind.
If I have to ask every one for permission to take their photos for this site- then
a. it will take a long time because people dont come back to you immediately
b. it will spoil the element of surprise - they would know that their dog's pix is used as part of a quiz...
c. it will be a lot of work to collate the replies etc...and I dont have that time.

It might be best if those who dont want their photos to be used to:
a. work on blocking it from being copied -eg the 'no right click' method suggested above....
or
b. (Easier for everyone) - state a total blackout ( ie no one will touch their photos for anything) in some main page.

Hope that helps.

Artos,

I think I can safely say, as a member (not an admin) and personally by me, what was brought up today had nothing to do with you and was in no way directed towards anyone. Just a reminder to be considerate with peoples wishes regarding their photos and what the policies are typically concerning them.

I had previously mentioned in my puppy threads for people to please not use the photos as they were from my breeder and while I had permission to post them, of course I would appreciate if people didn't save them or use them. So today, the issue came up of the photos I had posted in my new Colby thread and I noticed I had not asked in that thread for people to just ask me for pictures. Besides the fact that it's just nice to do, when you ask, you get my nice digital pics instead of my shrunken grainy ones. (love you guys, but trying to save on space as I understand the frustrations of those with dial-up, slow connections etc.!)

Can any of us stop people from using photos? No, of course not, but as Deb said before, it is nice to be considerate and it is someones intellectual property. And I was asking just for me personally, in that thread.

Would I put your collages in the same category, mayhaps I am splitting hairs, but no. I wouldn't. They are delightful and I know I personally enjoy them. They are witty, creative and really brighten my day to see the fun things everyone does with the pictures.

Be at ease. This whole thing was brought about by my posting a request (as a member in my own thread) to just ask me for those pics and not to snag them. It wasn't meant in any way to offend, harm or cause this brou-haha... nothing like that. Just a friendly reminder, like ones I had posted before to please ask before using/taking etc.

Hope we're all good here. +WUBCLUB+ I'm sorry somehow you were brought up. That wasn't my intent and I felt everything was completely taken out of context.

Are we cool?

Here is another interesting point on photos, they are "owned" by the photographer. Pets are legally speaking an item of property and thus anyone can take a picture of them (if we have them in view). This kind of surprised me when my BIL CA atty told me this. So when I walk my dog, if someone takes a photo of he or she and turns around and posts it, they can legally. It isn't like a photo of a child which requires permission. It was nice for me to know I was legal when I stopped and took a photo of a house that I wanted to remember it's paint colors.

Then my question is: at dog shows that are inside, are flash photos allowed? I don't know if dogs get distracted by the flash like we do with the spot in our vision after a bright flash.

For me anyone can use my dog's photo as it sort of immortalizes the dog which will only be on this earth less than two decades.

When I was at the Rose City Classic in Portland I always asked permission before taking a photo and never at ring side. Flashes at ring side *can* be distracting to some dogs and people. It's much better to go to the grooming area to take photos or ask to use the photo area (sometimes there is one).

My .02 cents.

Then my question is: at dog shows that are inside, are flash photos allowed?

It depends. Some show sites will have no camera rules. Given incidents that happened beginning of March this year, I would also recommend asking permission of owners/exhibitors before one starts snapping photos of dogs.

I don't know if dogs get distracted by the flash like we do with the spot in our vision after a bright flash.

That can happen and I would advise not being anywhere near the exit of the ring should you cause that to happen. Timing is critical and photos can be taken of dogs in the ring without being disruptive.

Photos on the internet are a fairly touchy subject with some people. Those on websites are usually copyrighted and there are people who will come after anyone who lifts photos and posts or uses them elsewhere. They are not as free domain as it might be believed. It is just good form to ask permission.

When I was doing photography professionally, anyone you shot on the street was fair game. If you decided to publish it somewhere, like the cover of a book, permission had to be asked and a form signed. Other than that, if it was done just to document an event whether someone was in the frame or not, it was/is ok...at least back in the '80's and mid '90's.

As for me, I'd consider it an honor if anyone wanted to snag a pic of Bubba or even any of the pictures from the TN Corgi picnic I posted. Doesn't bother me a bit.
