View Full Version : Link's first boat ride
Last week we couldn't keep Link out of our inflatable boat when it was lying on the lawn. So the boys thought he might like a real boat ride. This is my first time using YouTube, hope it works ok...

Love seeing the ears first in the boat. Link looks so comfortable to just go along with the ride. I see a life jacket and real boat rides in the future! Does Link like the water as he didn't see to panic when your son got him out of the boat for a treat? I can only hope our puppy is that way as we found a canoe tour in Big Bear Lake that might allow a dog to join in! Far in the future of course.
Seeing Link's gorgeous ears made me realize I will be anxious for my puppy's ears to rise but the breeder said 14 weeks because they are so large. What a change from Pepper's 6 weeks.

We do have a life jacket for him already, we plan to take him canoeing. I've walked around in the pool holding him, and have had him stand on a boogie board while I held him steady, but we haven't let him try to swim yet. I'm afraid he'll get scared and hate it forever, so I'm taking it slow. He really likes the boat, it's soft and cushy and he's such a cuddle bunny :CUTE:
It took a while for his ears to come up too, much longer than Millie's (PWC). I just LOVE his ears!
Emilie, getting a cardigan was the best thing!!! I love our Pem to death and would never give her up, but Link has such a different manner about him - I love the difference!

Link looks very relaxed and happy to be with you all. I think that Link will be fine. The first time Rupert went to my friend's pool, he walked off the edge and went right to the bottom before we could do anything! Gave me a heart attack! I then got his lifejacket on and although he would never jump off the edge - he'd come to me and I'd lower him in, he loved the pool. When he got tired - we did the same as you are for Link - we put him in the dingy! Riley would go for hours if you let her - she'd jump off after balls - she loved the water!!
Here's Rupe keeping Riley company while she swims lengths.

That picture of Rupert and Riley is wonderful! They look like they're having so much fun. I wish our pool was inground like that, ours is above ground with just the basic ladder. Not a good setup for dogs going in and out. Safer, though, as they can't decide to go for a swim all by themselves!
Maybe today we'll put Link's life jacket on him and get him a lot wetter.
Poor Rupert, sinking like a rock the first time - good to know it didn't scare him!

That is a great photo of rupert and riley... i really wish i had access to a pool to work with Dillon ...and maybe Gus... i have never taken Gus to water, so i have no idea if he understands the concept of swimming or not... we just havent gotten out to the river this summer at all- partly becuase of Gus's condition, we just dont want to get him in too much sun, cant get him bathed for two weeks prior to going to the dermatologists and our appt is in two weeks, it just has been crappy timing... sometime i would like to see what he thinks of swimming.. Dillon is not a huge fan of water, only likes it when he is hot and will only go up to his chest ( so what is that 4 inches? LOL!)

Link really is laid back - Jackie would be panicking I think. Such a cute video, and your sons seem very gentle with him, which is so nice to see. I also look forward to more videos of Link!
And Deb - that pic of Rupe & Riley is so cute. Rupe needs a baseball cap & a whistle . . . he looks like he is helping Riley train for the Olympics!!!
Jackie had a similar experience to Rupe when she was little. My parents live on a reservoir, and we were exploring the shoreline one day when she was about 4 months old. She climbed out on a rock and looked at the water. I thought, "She won't jump in. She hates to get wet." And all of a sudden . . . SPLASH!!!! And under she went. In the split second it took for her to resurface I was already on the rock and about to jump in. Luckily she bobbed right back up and swam the 5 feet to the shoreline. It's a good thing, too . . . because swimming in a NY reservoir in November is not my idea of a good time! (and, apparently, not hers either . . . let's just say she was less than pleased) And that was the day I learned to never underestimate Jackie's chutzpah.

Maybe a theraputic mineral lake for Gus?
Dillon sounds like Millie. It takes a lot of coaxing and we all need to go far out in the water for her to think about getting her chest hair wet. She acts all dainty, sheesh. :TWITCHY:

I think that your dogs would surprise you with the swimming. Jem never even saw water until last summer when she was 7 months old. She went right in the day after we got her. It took her a few trips before she would swim - and then it was to go after a ball. On Monday night she was fetching sticks in the creek and would go for a little swim about everytime she got it. You could see she was enjoying the sensation. Sometimes she would kick her feet sometimes she'd pull them up and just use her front legs. She was clearly trying different styles and having fun.

Love the Link video; him resting his chin on the side of the boat and just floating around is priceless. And those beautiful ears!
Loved the Rupe & Riley pic too, Deb. Say, did you guys notice that you had the same boat? :BIGGRIN"

Wow, you engineers are very observant Debi!! I didn't notice. It's my friend's boat - the one who has the pool. I think I may get a dingy and take it to Ny for the gang in August.
Yesterday we had both dogs in the pool. Link went swimming (I'll hold those pics until the "wet doggy" theme) and Millie just went for a boat ride. Here she is in the Explorer:

I have to say the Explorer boats are terrific. They're cheap to buy and last a long time.
