View Full Version : One last question....

Once all of the puppies are gone, what should I expect from Sadie? Will she be depressed or concerned, or will she celebrate?!?

And, how long will she recognize the puppies as her own? Since she is very likely to see Lulu (Gabby) occasionally once she is old enough to go out on public walks, I wondered how long they will remember each other. Or will they react like "strangers"?

Oops...I guess that's two last questions! :CUTE:

Most of them don't do either. Not depressed and not celebrating. Just being themselves.

If she sees her reguarly she'll know her and know she's hers. Now that doesn't mean that as Lulu matures they will still like each other. Some do and some don't.

When I took Chip over to pick out Dale, I believe his mom recognized him as hers. She was much more tolerant of him then I would have expected her to be. Chip was a year old.

When we bring Taffy home from the farm after having a litter she sleeps like crazy for a few days!!! So far she recognizes her puppies all the time. She also still "corrects" them which is something she doesn't do with other corgis.

Taffy loves being a mom. She generally stays with her puppies until 10 weeks or so and although they wean very nicely she lets them continue to nurse (when we'd prefer she dry up!) There's a puppy yard at the farm and even if we take her out of it to play just with her it's usually only 10 minutes or so and she either begs to be put back in or climbs back in herself.

At 10 weeks we take her home but I think she'd stay with them forever! Agatha on the other hand had a small litter and by 6 weeks it was "here's our hat, what's your hurry" Every mom is different, I'm just happy Taffy loves it so much.

Sadie was not at all reluctant to give up nursing! But now that they've been totally weaned for 10 days or so, and she does not seem to be producing milk at all anymore, she has renewed her interest in the puppies. She'll now play with them, groom them...and then spin around and bolt if they try to nurse at all!

We'll see how she does tomorrow when the last three leave....
