I think Connor would say the same things to me in the rally ring.

MmmHmm, my release word has always been "okay". It did backfire on me once at a trial, we were at the start line and the timer asked me to wait a moment while they checked with the judge on scoring the dog ahead of me. Of course, I said "okay" and Bella took off like someone shot her out of a cannon! Luckily we were able to re-start because of the scoring issue.

I've been trying to think of a new release word as well. I sued Free with Montrose.

My trainer say for those of us in class who plan on competing come up with something we don't normally say in conversation. I've started using good puppy.

Merlin never had a start line stay, and even though I use okay for other things the other two never had a problem with it. My problem with Jack was that if I was looking back at him he wouldn't start. I had to have my body facing forwards and just turn my head back. And with Janine if I led out too far she freaked out.
Merlin, well, I took off his leash and he started jumping around in excitement but he would not start without me.

Absolutely hilarious. Got me thinking about my release word -- I use "okay" too, but I've had it backfire (thankfully only outside the ring). I'm wondering how difficult it would be to change the command? I've never tried it.

This is funny even though I don't do agility with my two (I would like to). I use okay for a release for other things. Guess if I ever get them into agility I should think of a different word. :TWITCHY:

I changed Connor's with no problem. I just started using good puppy and then giving him a treat.
As for starting without me Connor thinks he can do it without me, that's been our problem getting him to wait for me.

That is a video that I can most definitely relate too, LOL.
I use "okay" as a release word and I haven't had a problem. A lot of people in my classes use "Clear" which if I ever start doing agility with a new dog I think I would try.

I'm sticking with "Okay", most of the time it's not a problem and I like how upbeat it sounds when I release Bella. A lot of agility folks have started using Free, or Release because those are words you don't say as often in conversation. Just don't use Go or Ready because that is what the starter says when it is time to start your run! :BIGGRIN"

How about "Cheesy Noodles" ("Käsespätzle", a south german food which you have to try when you're in Germany. +DROOL+)?
It was the release word of Noodles when he was fit enough for agility.
What I mean is: How about a food that doesn't get served so much in your area? For example "Gumbo" or another short word with a vowel on the end (Dogs LOVE commands with vowels on the end)?

Since I have so much to remember on course as it is, I'll probably stick with OK.
YES is for the Obedience ring when the judge ask if we are Ready?
And GO is an Obedience command for the Go Outs for Directed Jumping.
And I have to say, that even though Danny & I have only had 8 classes, and our practices at home, his Obedience high jumping and broad jumping practice have really improved.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I have us entered in an Ob Trial on Sep 23rd, and then the very next day we've entered our first AAC Agility trial!
Standard Jumpers, in Specials.
And it's a good thing that we have an almost totally private backyard, because I need to go out and practice my front crosses, without Danny.+EMBARRASED+

Our instructor Gaby (& others) said that we are ready.:ER:
Yes, must power up the FLIP for those 2 trials. And Laurie, I've been watching Youtubes clips of you and Bella in Jumpers. Need to see how a Pem & Handler should look on course. And others too of course.
This is where we are training:

Barbara, most of our videos will show you how an awesome dog can make up for some questionable handling! +SPIN+
My friend, Jo just retired her Corgi, Kirby. He is great dog and she is a really good handler. Here is a video she made for Kirby's retirement.

There is even a little obedience in there for you! I think Kirby has a Utility title.

Beautiful!+WUBCLUB+
They look so wonderful together. And Kirby only has eyes for Jo, and in the Ob ring too.
Yes, he has his Utility title, that's what Danny and I are working towards for next spring.
Thanks so much for sharing that Laurie, I'll certainly be re-watching it.

The little video clip had me laughing.. so cute.. I love how he thinks the judges love the teeter flyoff.. it is really cute.. and I too use the release word "OK" for heeling release/ ok to eat your food release, etc. I have not had it become a problem yet... but i also say it in a sing song cheerful way when i say it.. so mabye "ok" in conversation doesn't sound the same as how i say it when i really mean to release...
Kirby is amazing..he and jo make a great team! I really enjoyed watching them run!
