Gary, Montrose & Dylan and I had a wonderful corgi weekend away!

Friday: We got up early and headed across the boarder into WA state and down to Whidbey Island. Such a beautiful place and a favourite camping spot for us.

The motel that I checked with (thanks for that info Bobbie) was full, but when we drove by there was a vacancy sign up and we managed to get a big room with 2 Q beds, table and chairs, nice TV, WiFi wireless internet and a separate small room for the fridge, mico more counters etc. Montrose and Dylan love staying in motel rooms and being on road trips!
There was a huge manicured lawn area for pets, lots of rabbits to the dogs to sniff out and we even saw a deer, very close up at dusk. Dylan was my GSP corgi.

Next we headed down the Hwy to the beach to search out Bobbie's address. As we drove along her street, Gary and I both called out at the same time. "Corgis!". We were there! Bobbie was just on her way to take some of her crew for a beach walk and we took Dylan along with us, Monty was having a nap and we let her rest.

It was so nice to meet Bobbie in person after meeting on her board, WheelsCorgis, and all the help that she has given Montrose and I. Dylan joined right in with Jack, Teddy, Merlin & Jeanine and they all had a good run along the water. I was concerned about him as he has not had a lot of socilization these past months do to his ACL surgery, no Sat classes, trials etc and was often confined or kept close in at home. I did not need to worry at all, they accepted him and he had a ball running the shoreline with his new friends.

Then Bobbie invited us all into the house and we woke up our Miss M, Gary carried her, and she was given a spot in a nice big comfy chair to be apart of the group. Now she has never been really fond of close touches, especially by boy dogs she does not know, so when Jack (what a happy sweet boy he is!) jumped up beside her and snuggled right in we were so surprised that she was happy to sit and 'chat" with him. I think that Dylan looked as surprised as Gary and I did. We also got to meet Bobbie's most senior girl. After a nice visit and final plans for Saturday, we were off to K-9 Carts West for Monty's appt. (I will post a separate thread about that in the Health Forum.)

Then, once we were settled into out motel room, puppers fed and exercised, and put into their kennels to rest we walked across the road to the store from the motel and we noticed a corgi sitting in the driver's seat of a car. We of course wanted to meet the corgi & the owner and say hello. We must have looked a bit shifty as one of the cashiers came to the store entrance and asked if she could help us. I had taken my pewter corgi pin from my pocket and put it on my sweater, sort of like waitiing for a blind date, wanting to be noticed. The cachier spied it and said I have a corgi too!

At that point the owner of the corgi in the car came out, open the door and 2 R/W Pems jumped out, one with a beautiful full red tail! The first I had ever seen in person. We chatted for some time, she told us that she had adopted her girl at 2 days old, the mother and the rest of her litter had all died. Because she did not have any mother's milk etc, and they worried so about just keeping her alive they did not dock her tail. What a beauty, wish I had taken my camera along to ACE hardware, you ever know!

Then it was during our evening stroll that we spotted the deer, and stood watching it, about 50 ft away from us. The dogs were very quiet, only looked and did not bark, again, I must keep my camera with me at all times.

All tucked in for the night, I opened up Gary's laptop and read the posts here. Previously I had slipped the webcam on and Deb and I had a nice chat, I beside the Pacific Ocean and Deb and crew along Lake Ontario. Marvelous! Then a good nights sleep.

I shall post Saturday, day 2 of 2 spearately as I seem to have typed a novelette. Lots of pictures too.

I am so glad that you were able to enjoy such a trip with your pals, isn't it wonderful traveling with them? And yes, always have a camera, or camera phone, lol. I was especially touched by Montrose accepting her visitor, she sounds a little like Blanche Dubois to me, "I have always depended upon the kindness of strangers". Thanks for sharing your trip, and look forward to hearing more, and seeing some photos, it has to be beautiful there.

Thank you Bobbie, that's a great picture you took of Jack Montrose! Hope you will post more of the ones you took of them all.

And yes, Friday Monty had a boyfrieind, but Sat the party was so big they didn't get a chance to snuggle. Maybe next time.

And you are right Deb, the trip did both her and Dylan's spirits a lot of good. And Mine and Gary's too!
