any chance we'll be able to have custom titles ever?

It's not something that we have ever offered here and it's never come up. Usually the right to create a custom title is earned by a member by how much they post and contribute to a forum. But to me - does quantity = quality? I'm not averse to it outright, but, I don't really see the advantage here.

I have to do a number of upgrades in the coming months, so it's something I will put on the list to consider. This is a community and I am always open for input and suggestions.

Thanks for posting,

It's something that we have at another form that I have been with for many, many years, but the titles reflect our personalities in a way that only comes from all those years of getting to know each other.

They were chosen for each of us by other members (with our permission to post them) and may not mean much to a member that has not been of the group very long.

I'm good with it either way. To be honest, I don't really pay attention to the titles, I mostly just pay attention to the avatars & the signatures.

If anyone else would like to offer their opinions here - that would be great - I am open to hearing what you all think.

no, thanks.

(I have to type something for the system to accept the above.)

No, thanks.

I'll second that.

I agree with Deb that quantity does not equal quality. So using how much one posts as a gage is not the way to go IMO.

I like this forum the way it is. You'll get to know the people you want to hear from and know who will give advice you'll want to read. Or who will post a story you'll want to read.

Peggy you have said it exactly as I would. That's my feeling too - I don't see that they serve a purpose, especially here, but I'm listening to everyone who wants to have a say.

i just like the option to be able to have a line of text under our avatars that we choose. Its just something that makes each member more unique. I think its just a little more fun is all.

I dislike titles that are tied to post counts.

Custom titles are cool, but I don't really care one way or another. It's just a switch to flip in the settings. It's also another aspect of behavior to police, but I don't really see that as a problem here. My biggest issues have been people using custom titles like "The Moderator" when they're not -- I got around this by giving our mods colored titles and leaving the rest black.

But whatever's easiest for you. I like that this forum doesn't have to keep up with the in-crowd to keep high quality content flowing.

I frequent other forums that have user titles either automatically occur by post count or customizable by the user. Those forums are civilized places, like this one, so I've never seen a problem with someone creating an objectionable user title. Whatever you choose is ok with me.
