I recently became aware that vets are now offering the new dental vaccine to their patients called Porphyromonas Bacterin which covers denticanis, gulae-salivosa.

I had a chance to discuss this with my vet and his opinion is that he would not recommend it for Corgis, but would for those owners whose dogs are more prone to dental disease/problems; he named Boxers, Shi tzu and beagles(certain toy dogs); and those dogs with certain bites. He said he has a concern with all the vaccinations given and felt in Cody's case the benefits didn't outweigh the possible risks associated with yet another vaccine. He felt that being diligent about cleaning was the best route to go. He said it was up to me, but it is not something I plan on doing.

If down the road for some reason, when Cody was older, if he showed that he was starting to shows the beginning signs of dental disease, he said they would clean his teeth at that time and vaccinate him then and the vaccination would be helpful to him even at that age.
