Give lots of treats before, during, and after nail grinding, and then when you switch to a louder Dremel he should still associate it with good things.

I've also noticed nails are usually longer in front than in back each time we trim. Do they grow at different rates or are they just ground down more on the hind legs?

Some of my corgis have had longer nail in the front, and some have had longer nails in the back. I've always thought that it depended on where they put the most pressure when they run. Digging in more with the front paws, or pushing more with the back end.

Dogs that drag thier front feet will have shorter nails in the front. Those that are balanced (same angulation front and rear - and that doesn't necessarily mean it's "correct" angulation) will usually wear the nails evenly on all feet. And yes, if they dig more or are jumping up more they might wear the nails on front or rear feet more than the opposite. Peggy
