THanks for posting the videos, Susan, I really enjoy watching them all.. Lulu looks like she is having fun and did well. Tucker was just truckin' along on those jumps and did great on the weave poles.

Olivia was really a pretty cardi! she seemed so calm through the run..or what really looked like a walk. so ... steady , calm and quiet.

Susan, I loved the videos! You are a really good handler, I love how calm and steady you were in Lulu's herding run. You both did a really good job, Lulu was assertive but not aggressive. I was impressed by her lack of circling in her HS run, is that natural for her or have you spent a lot of time training that, like I will be doing??
Great job in agility with Tucker, but I'd really like to see Lulu's leap into the ring crew lap!
Congratulations on a great showing at the national!

Have yourself video'd!

Man, does that point out what mistakes you are making.

At the herding clinic the week before the Nationals I was talking with a woman I had seen train with her Smooth Collies. She did a great job with her dogs and when I mentioned it to her she said "I'm no longer yelling at him". I made a mental note of that.

So our last lesson just before the Nationals we went in, did our run, it went smoothly but I did something wrong penning the sheep. Our instructor said try it again.

Well... the wheels fell off the bus. The sheep were running amuck, Lulu was chasing them and not working, and I started yelling. I caught myself, I could hear the anxiety in my voice, but too late. Lulu headed, tail down, towards the gate and refused to come back.

So now I am an absolute maniac, I thought "I've ruined my dog, and we are going to bomb out at the nationals". All week I told myself to shut up and let Lulu do her thing.

And as I watched a lot of melt downs in the sheep pens with dogs and handlers, some of the worst were when people were screaming at their dogs. For all her bossiness, Lu is a very soft dog. Yelling is absolutely not the answer.

I have to keep watching Barb Miller's run with Olivia. That is absolutely the way to go.

But it is fun isn't it!!!!

Oh... the circling....

That's one of the things we have worked on. To the point of almost losing the sheep, my instructor has me pushing her back around and not letting her cross in front of me.

What we really have to work on is her working further back and not on top of me. She was doing that really well back in January but after the snow storms hit and we couldn't train, she started working too close. I let it go because I just wanted to get us thru the nationals.

So we are going to go back to basics.

He finally got a decent agility shot of Lulu coming out of the tunnel in the Standard Run (Novice).

I have great shots of Tucker taken by show photographers but Lulu is always out of place. I have to E mail Rich and order it.

He had never photographed herding before. I think he's hooked. He and his wife have Dobes and he is planning to get the Dobe out to a clinic one day and try him on sheep.

Swears his next dog will be a Corgi!
