Default Danny's Ob Class today.

Figure 8's are still good. I do much better walking on a curve than trying to walk a straight line. Danny's straight heeling was very much improved. I didn't even lose him to a sniff on the floor on the off lead. Great focus. I was thrilled with that! We concentrated on that at home the past week.

One of the things that I *thought* was not a worry for me in ring was Danny's recall. He *was* rock solid. Until today.

We worked out the kinks on his crooked fronts the past week. Lots of short lessons, rewarded handsomely doing fronts with his favourite hot dog slices.

Today in class: First recall we did was for proofing. The instructor stood off to the side, & offered him a delicious hot dog slice as he passed her. Expect he didn't pass her.

And I had proofed him with the frisbee & coon tail, which of course weren't used this week. Just the hot dog slices.

So our main homework this week will be proofing his recall instead of the sits & downs that we did last week. Also working on Danny holding different objects for a longer period of time, not just dumbbell work.

My personal homework, without Danny, making sure that I am doing my footwork properly for the about turn so that I don't force him back.

I'm really enjoying our classes, and I know that Danny is too, he loves to be busy, and eat hot dogs too.

Sounds like you're doing great! Aine says she doesn't blame him for going for a hot dog!

Well every time Danny (or I) make an error the instructor says that's good. "Do it in class so that we can fix it before it happens in the ring". We are both doing our best on that one.

It sounds like a good class. I went out to a show and watched rally and a little obedience yesterday as friends of mine were showing. One friend's little Cardi gets nervous and stops and scratches! But she did very well and took placements in all her classes.

well really... what respectable corgi would want to pass up a free piece of hotdog? I would think that Dillon would more than likely run over to the trainer, take the hotdog and THEN come running to me..

I think it is great that you are having so much fun with Danny and that he is having such a fun time with you. Training is a very special bonding time that we have with our dogs..

Emille, the instructor didn't give Danny the hot dog slice, if he had been rewarded for not coming promptly when called.....well!
Today he learned to pick up & carry a small basket, without mouthing the handle, which was the goal. And yes, the reward de jure was hot dog slices.
Since Dylan insisted on working for some hot dogs too, even though he was pretty tired after his therapy visit he and I did a few turns around the kitchen to his favourite tune, Loco Motion.

Yes, we do have a lot of fun together training. I'm very lucky to be a partner in two teams.

Geez... of COURSE he didnt get a hot dog treat... what the heck was i thinking . Now you know if it had been Dillon , he may have taken matters into his own hands and mugged the trainer for that hotdog ( ok i couldnt find a masked robber the only masked dude looked too nice LOL). Gus would more than likely come to me... but i wouldn't put it past him to give the trainer the pathetic starving corgi look to try to get some hotdog...

Training is a lot of fun. Glad that Dylan got some work time too ( all i have to ask Dillon is " do you want to work with me?" and he gets excited , does a few head tilts and is ready to go!)

Do Gus & Dillon try to compete with each other?

I used to put one of the boys in stay on their 'place', but Dylan has started to sometimes whine while waiting and it's distracting to me. Danny will stay, but I don't want him to see when I let Dyl get away with some easy stuff do to his age and sore hip. So now I separate them into different rooms. That really makes them excited to be the next one working.

What is next a live squirrel? (you have to see the movie UP). Or Parmesan cheese that Chester can smell in his sleep 3 rooms away? Wow, hot dog is tough. That is like opening up a can of salmon and being so surprised to see a cat meowing through my screen door, not.

I guess a trip to the pet store by the rodent cages would be a test area too for something with movement vs smell.

And I am silly to think sticks are so hard for Chester to ignore.
